Not including Meshuggah is a crime. They're one of the most ripped off metal bands ever, next to black sabbath and metallica. Stealing 90's meshuggah riffs is the foundation of the entire djent genre. Destroy erase improve and chaosphere are 2 of the most widely plagiarized albums of all time. If you've heard those two albums, you've heard every djent band

They’re currently trashing on their new music, but acknowledge that their old stuff is good and highly influential. Which is why a LOT of people say that Self Titled and Iowa were great but beyond that they’ve lost their touch. Even Metallica fans still trash their new stuff and say they miss their old style, people dislike change. Which is fair imo

Deftones at the very least really should've been here. They were the driving force of the initial nu metal movement and then EVERYONE started getting inspired by them. I used to like Power Metal when I got into metal as it would enrich any MMORPG experience(s) I had. When I shifted to faster combat games, I needed something to groove to, and death metal hit the spot and I started appreciating its heaviness as I just headbang my troubles and inadequacies away. I guess I grew out of power metal like I grew out of the fantasy stories I used to read as a child, as I do not actively seek out power metal today, seeing it as 'weak' - preferring instrumentals if I want filler. Just my experience though.

Sounds like nik needs to do some good power metal listens. FWIW... I wouldn't put Dragonforce in my top 20 for power. Just doesn't cut it. BG, Helloween, Gamma Ray, Angra, rhapsody/luca t, Edguy, Avantasia, stratovarius, heavenly, nocturnal rites are way better IMO. Probably forgot a bunch of fantastic newer bands (ahem...UtA), but they'll have their time 🤘

They were releasing music that was well received in 2005 -- For example: Coming Undone, one or their more popular songs, came out on the album See You on the Other Side (which was released on December 6th, 2005). If anything, the had started to fall off later on, during the 2010s; moreover, System of a Down had been on a hiatus for 15 or so years, before releasing 2 singles earlier this year.

I think Sempiternal with BMTH should be on top for metalcore. Shadow Moses alone with those simple intro riffs defined what metalcore bands do these days. Them and ARCHITECTS. All the way to the top. But no one can top LP. That's the top of the pyramid full stop!

Disturbed still is one of my favorite bands and was really the opener to the make random sounds with distortion department and then my Uncle yeeted me straight into the deep end with Dig by Mudvayne. At The Gates basically invented melodic death, but In Flames defined it, definitely one of the greatest metal bands ever. Even if their newer stuff hasn't been the best. They had almost 20 years of making some of the best music to grace the metal scene.
