Roger made the right choice...for him. He can change to a new pair every set if he wants to! For the general public, a $120-150 investment in shoes is kind of a big deal - for me anyway - and I feel it's a bit irresponsible for manufacturers to make a high wear item that won't last you at least a season or two. My $0.0.2. Great vids as always man!

Enjoyed the review of the two shoes, Doc! I was lucky enough to snag a pair of the Roger Pros and for my feet, the fit and comfort levels were sublime. You're spot on about durability. I've played about 6 hours in them and I've shelved them because I don't want to destroy these great shoes. I had hoped On Running would have released a US Open version or just another general release of the original but doesn't look like that will happen now that Fed is out for the rest of the season. As for the Vapor Pros, I've only tried on a pair and gotta say I wasn't impressed with the fit nor the quality. I currently wear the Vapor React NXT (not your favorite, I know) - but for a seemingly heavier tennis shoe, I really like the performance, fit and comfort of the NXTs. Keep up the great work.

Haven’t played with the Vapour Pro- but my experience playing Vapour X vs Roger Pro: 1. Roger Pro is much more comfortable for my feet overall. The shoes are wide enough and the midsole seems to absorb more impact. The upper mesh is nice but not important to me. The outside of my foot rubs against the mesh a little, which can be annoying if i play for more than 4hours. Vapour X is way too narrow for me. 2. As you mentioned, Roger Pro requires you to pay more attention on footwork. It can still be nimble, but I sprint noticeably slower - not by a lot but I couldn’t chase down some dropshots that I could get to. I seem to change direction a little better in Vapour X, potentially because it’s lower. 3. Vapour X’s lacing system hugs my feet better. No issue with Roger Pro but I like to be tied down. 4. Too many On logos on the Roger Pro, but it still looks better according to strangers. 5. Serve - I think this is where the performance shoe comment comes in. When I really want to add power, I feel like I bounce better and serve harder with the Roger Pro. But if I only put in little effort then it won’t go well. Overall: Vapour X has better performance in low effort (60%) play, both are similar in medium effort (80%), but the few time when you really get into serious game mode Roger Pro is better - except in raw speed. For longer sessions Roger Pro is more comfortable.
@FootDoctorZach3 жыл бұрын
Yeah i agree with this - if they would just make a deeper stronger rubber for mass consumption the Roger Pros would be just as good as any other shoe out there

Hi Zach. Thanks so much for all your content. I was hoping to ask your advice. I play a lot - 12+ hours a week. 5.0 all court player. On the heavier side and approaching 40. I’m after two pairs of shoes, one plush comfortable shoe for training (although not too bulky, didn’t like the GP Turbos) and one fast shoe for matches. Play mostly hard court or carpet. Definitely over pronate, otherwise foot fairly standard. Usually bottom out the cushioning and outsole rather than destroying uppers on shoes as I don’t slide on hard courts. I was wondering what your top picks would be for each category. Your top overall seem to be a compromise - which I totally understand - but tennis is my only vice so happy to spend a bit of extra cash on two different shoes. Many thanks

Hey Doc, thank you for your work ! Can you explain (from a foot doctor perspective ) why companies make shoes with a focus on the heel cushioning instead of the forefoot ? I mean, as tennis players we're almost always pressuring the front of the shoes (split steps, serve, ground strokes, and while running to the balls). I always find that the forefoot cushion is too thin and become flat very quickly. Thanks again for your amazing content.

Thank you for your deep knowledge of the subject and clear delivery of your message to viewers. The Vapor Pro lateral plastic clip is just too harsh on the digital nerve branches but the performance is outstanding. Could you comment as to which other shoe might be the closest to Vapor Pro for lightweight, aerodynamic, low to ground tactile feel of the court surface, cutting ability .... based on studying your reviews .... any chance that might be the NB 996 ?

Greeeaat video Zack! The previous vs the new shoes of Roger! 😁👌🏼 Think a softer midsole Roger Pro's, and with deeper grooves on the sole....killer. The shoe just seriously needs a tone down for the common public and boom On the Vapor Pro's...a size 10.5 is my recommended size by Nike...tried the Vapor Pro's in 10 and 11 (no luck that day at the store haha) and 11's were fair on the width..wish Nike realeased Wide version Vapors like before. @FootDoctorZach3 жыл бұрын
Kinda depends on your personal preference- they’re pretty similar in fit- I just personally like the vapors more
@PoBoyR63 жыл бұрын
I've got a narrow-ish foot and have both the Vapor Pros and U4s...I would say it depends how narrow your foot is...I find the Vapor Pros are almost too narrow...whereas the U4s fit my feet perfectly...also the toe box is more pointed on the Vapor Pros which could lead to jamming of the little toe vs a rounder toe box on the U4s that again fits me better. Plus I prefer the Lightstrike mid sole and sock upper of the U4s so the U4s are the better shoe for me. Only thing with the U4s is you really need to try them on first because many people complain about the fabric creasing into where the toes begin and causing discomfort that never really goes away. It wasn't an issue for me thankfully.
@nurbbro37783 жыл бұрын
@@PoBoyR6 thx for the insights- much appreciated. I did get some vapors and I put them on to wear around the house before I took them on court and unfortunately my left heel was very uncomfortable to the point where my foot fell asleep. Discovered I have a bone spur that was getting pressure- so I need to return them. Will give the U4’s a shot. Right foot felt great for what it’s worth.
@PoBoyR63 жыл бұрын
@@nurbbro3778 no probs...sorry to hear about the bone spur...you might have more luck with the U4s then as they aren't quite as tight in the heel area...I think this is because of the sock upper design the shoe chassis itself doesn't need to 'grip' you as tightly there to stay in place. I barely even need to tighten the laces on mine to be locked in. Hope they work better for you!

What's up Doc, I think the deciding factor is that Nike likes to have a consistent theme in some of their shoes lines so when Roger foot does not fit in they are still unwillingly to change G.R version for him so he left, because comparing the stats excluding durability Nike still beats ON by 1 point. But, why did Roger start caring about selling shoes he actually wears, he was not doing that before right. Or the caah and possiblity of becoming like Jordan brand in ON was too attractive.
