Nike Invincible 3 vs Asics Novablast 3

You're spot on w/r/t how the Invincible 3 feels on the run. I still find it strange at times that it functions like a recovery run shoe but doesn't have that sink-in feeling. It's so damn smooth on the transition, it's a joy to do long runs in it.

This is due to the addition of the strobel board in the shoe. You get the softness and bounce of ZoomX but the structure of the board… best of both worlds.

Superblast would be a better comp for the invincible. Both use “race day” foams an neither have a plate. I don’t own the invincible but I have tried it on. The bouncy nature without the stability of a plate was a no go for me. The Superblast is a great lightweight big boy that is extremely stable. Now, if you thought the Novablast looked and felt big on the foot…

I had a long section about the Superblast and how it is actually closer to the Invincible that I cut out. While I agree with you I think due to the price many think of these two together. At least when looking for a performance trainer. Also the specs are closer, besides the foam. The Superblast is somewhere between the Invincible and a plated race shoe. Yes… I’ve tried the Superblast on… but the Nimbus 25 still feels the biggest!

@@SagasuRunning I thought about the price but the SB and Invincible are $20 apart ($180 vs $200) where as the NB is $140. I guess neither is a perfect comparison to the Invincible. It will be interesting to see if Nike goes in the direction of a “super trainer” like ASICS, NB, and Adidas have.

I can deal with heel slipping, I can't deal with heel rubbing. It's a trade off, if you make the heel too locked in you're risking rubbing the tendon. Asics shoes rub my achilles and have to use tape unfortunately. :(

They are very opposite in that way. Asics's heel counters and cups can irritate my Achilles, but oddly the NB3 is not one of those shoes. I have no issues with the I3.

Think some website cut the Novablast 3 into half and measured 37mm in the heel and around 30mm in the forefoot. Can do a google.

That definitely sounds my accurate. Running Warehouse actually says 41/33 for US Men’s size 9.

I can't run in the Novablast 3. I get terrible foot slapping and the midsole feels flat.

I can definitely see that for some foot strikes. FFBlast+ doesn't help sometimes either. Good there there are tons of other options out there. The NB3 is good, but not THAT good that you are really missing anything.

Asics exclude the insole and maybe the strobel board inside when it comes to stack height, but i really do not know how true that is. Had to also size down in the Nova because it was quite long. Skipped the invincible 2 because the first iteration fell apart on me with less than 50 km (mid upper , mid outsole separation).

I also think they don’t include the rubber outsole either. It’s purely the midsole foam I believe. The I3 is a MUCH better shoe than the I2… in every single way. Much more durable as well.

I got a pair of the invincible 3 and for me it never gives me any problems to the ankle. however, it causes me some pain on my soles during the first mile or so, it gives me the same pain you would feel after standing up for the whole day but less intense. I mean, the shoes are still very comfortable even when I feel that. And after some minutes it completely goes away, kinda like my feet got used to being supported like this..

That sounds like a softness issue but could be the switch the ZoomX making your feet flex more then other shoes you run in. As far as my issue I’ve also heard people talk about knee or hip discomfort form too much will with Nike heel clips.

It was a typo. I meant “softness” issue. Basically moving to a very soft foam is causing your forefoot to flex and move differently that your other shoes. It could take time for your foot to adapt.

The Novablast 3’s outsole and squishyness wrecked my feet in one run. Took 3 weeks to recover. I really want to buy the Invincible 3. The store didn’t have my size and are calling for it. My question: Is the Invincible more stable? Risks? Would be nice to get a pov. Thanks.

The I3 is definitely more “supportive” than the NB3. The strobel board in the shoe is firmer and offers more structure under foot. That being said ZoomX is softer and more bouncy than FFBlast+, but way more responsive. I’d make sure to try the I3 on in store and see. It also may not work for you.
