19:05 ... this is what I love about your interviews, Adam. The exact thing Costello was grateful for; you didn't ask the cookie-cutter questions and you had a real conversation about his work. I think he was absolutely sincere when he said he enjoyed talking with you and you turned it into a conversation instead of a series of worn-out same old questions. That was a great compliment he gave you. You should hold that compliment in high regard. I wish your dad was here to hear Elvis say that to you.

An intersting insight. He wanted the songs to be individual to each listener rather than be associated with a particular product or thing, then realizing that it would not change that individuality if eventually associated. Choosing art over ca$h is the artists prerogative, but that dough, sometimes, gives the artist room to breathe.

I met Elvis Costello going back to his hotel after his show when I was a teenager. He was incredibly nice, and spoke to my friend and I for probably 10 minutes. It was the River in Riverse tour (early 2000s) and he was just shocked it wasn't our first show. The really impressive thing was that he asked all the questions. Near the end of the conversation, another teenager ran up awkwardly accosted him asking to have his copy of This Years Model signed in the loudest possible manner. EC chuckled, signed the album, then turned back to us and asked us and offered to sign the tickets for the show. My friend, who I was in a band with, then tried to give him his ipod because it had a demo we recored. EC said he could not in good faith take an iPod from someone that already paid to see his show😂 Total class act. Oh, and he has an insane run of amazing albums.

Flowers in the dirt is a fantastic Paul McCartney album and when you got Elvis Costello contributing a few songs with the legend himself you get some amazing music and this is why I'm such a McCartney fan is Paul always collaborated with these modern artists and songwriters and he always welcomed their input and musical influences and whether it worked or not it gave Paul a fresh new musical Avenue to explore

One of my first jobs in Los Angeles back in the late 80’s was at a music video production company (I was an 18 year old kid). One of the videos the company promoted was Veronica. I came from a die hard metal head background in Tempe Arizona, so I’d robbed myself up until that point of a broader view of the music that was out there. Veronica cracked that wall for me. The way that Costello’s voice could be heard on top of the playback in the video gave it a purity, a true intimacy that really opened my eyes to his genius. I love this channel for bringing back so many memories that are attached to music for me. Keep it up

Have you ever discussed the Almost Blue album? Maybe I'm the only person who bought it 😢 I love it and all his albums. If I had to name the music that most stirred my blood in the post punk new wave era the # 1 spot goes to Elvis Costello. Love hearing about his inspirational artists. Fortunately I got to see him live at the now gone Universal Amphitheater. I am virtually unfamiliar with his work from the 90s as I was living off grid w o stereo or radio. Since then I've been too poor to purchase music or go to concerts. Thank g-d for Spotify.

Turning down Nike back then was the wisest choice. When Jimi Hendrix music was used to sell cars, it was a choice from his estate, not by the artist himself. Which I think would never had happened. Professor of Rock just outdid himself with this great interview. Big ups! Elvis is King!

I hate that there are no true jingles writers any more, I would like to buy the world a coke, I would like to be a pepper too, Mc Donal’s is my kind of place, now they bastardize some of the greatest songs in music history to sell everything from feminine hygiene products to kitchen appliances to cars. But I also understand the draw to sell your song for millions of dollars but then young people won’t know the wonderful song unless it is coupled with the product it sells.

I was dating a girl named Allison when “My Aim Is True” came out and I fell in love with that song and album. With the girl, not so much.
