It would be interesting to get a pair of shoes that have 500 miles on them and dissect them side-by-side a brand new pair of the same exact shoe and compare what the midsole looks like after that many miles on them. I know you never get shoes close to that mileage but someone could send you a pair (I don’t have any pairs beyond 250 miles right now).

Seth you have the second shoe of the same pair to cut open to find the air soon unit 😬
@johnflanagan78704 жыл бұрын
The “cloth” on the inside of the air zoom unit is part of the energy return system of the tech. Not only is the bag pressurized, it has vertically-oriented, elasticated strands throughout to help the bag quickly return to its original shape. When you cut the bag in half, they lose their tension, and probably just feel like fine microfiber.

The cloth keeps it from expanding in areas that don't have pressure standing on it. If you land on the front, that volume is not able to rush to the back and be displaced like a water bed.

try using a heat gun or oven, anything that is held together by adhesive will separate more easily. since the air zoom bag isnt stitched to the midsole, might help getting the zoom part away from the midsole. and any other carbon plates from shoes that use them

if you have a Nike Janoski SB (skateboarding shoe)..you can easily have access to the air zoom unit on that one because that one has it attached to the heel of the removable insole of the shoe..That will of course be smaller but has almost the same spongy material inside the bubble.
@johnpark56083 жыл бұрын
You should look up how zoom air units work. Kinda cool. As the bag is pressurized, the thousands fibers inside pulls the bag down creating potential energy which gets converted into kinetic energy when pressed.

As I understand it the Air Zoom Unit is not an Air Pod like in the Alphafly's and related range of shoes, Nike switched from that in the Pegasus to tubes and then an air infused cellular unit years ago. I do recall the discussion about that, but I can't recall when that was. Clearly, the Pegasus 37 has the same unit, just bigger.

When the zoom air bag is placed directly underfoot it is referred to as being “top loaded”. Whereas if the zoom air bag is closer to the bottom of the shoe where there is a adequate amount of foam between your foot and the zoom air bag, it is referred to as “bottom loaded”.

To extract the zoom unit for the peg 37 you need to take the strobel board out, since the unit is on top. It will be glued in good. Use heat from a heat gun,or hair dryer, but be careful full. Too much heat will pop the bag.

Zoom units differ from normal air units in that they have tensile fibers to increase responsiveness and decrease height/profile. They have been in use since the mid 90's but have really been perfected in the last fifteen years or so. The reason it felt like a beauty sponge is because without the pressurization, the fibers are no longer inclined to hold their shape, and thus fall flat. Hope this helps!

At first when I first saw em like nah I’m not wearing them because how thick the heel looked lil awkward to me. But felt tremendously better when I put em on. Then said should try Pegasus they feel just like those but better. So I bought a pair. After 6 months or more dealing with heel pain . Just wearing them went away in month or so. The pain finally healed or went away. Maybe took less then that just one day I realized , hey the pain is gone when I walk to the bathroom in the morning. Only shoes I buy now . Just ordered another pair😁.

Pegasus has had a good durability for years. You can put easily 1000 or even 1500 mls in a pair. I stop running in a shoe after 1000K but for example Peg 34 was like brand new after 1018K. Since then I have worn it casually. It looks perfect and has cushioning left. In my Peg 35 I have 954K and it's still in perfect condition for running. Newer Pegs incl. the Trail version and the Turbos have so little miles that I cannot predict durability yet.

Great video! I’ve always read about transitioning from traditional running shoes to minimals but I am in the opposite situation. I received a Nike Pegasus 37 as a gift and for the first time in more than a decade, I’ve tried wearing a traditional running shoe. My usuals are minimalist shoes and my thickest shoe would be the Nike Free 5.0. Having used the Pegasus for a few times, I’ve noticed heel discomfort on one foot. I’m not sure if it’s coincidence, or my foot not being used to the large stack height and drop of the shoe. Any thoughts on this?
