It is crazy how much the high school kids dig these. My son bought some air max 97 for track trainers and loves them. He does heavy squats and cleans in them and his track workouts when spikes aren't needed. He saw these and fell in love. I feel badly because I feel like I run in three better shoes than the max 97s or these and didn't pay what full length air units run. These will sell at any price point with that long air unit.

This is so so interesting for me. Because I feel like I love the gentle nature of the invincible 3’s on my daily 15k, and my weekly long runs. But likewise I also really love the feel and responsiveness of the Peg 40’s I have. I was looking forward to get the Zoom fly 6 for my long runs, and then maybe the vomero 18 for my main daily. But with this, I could potentially see this as a daily rotation shoe. Especially when it sounds like it has the cushioning of higher stack shoes, but the excitement of the “peg responsiveness”. Amazing content, that really just continues to improve and amaze me! Your visuals with the flexing plate, the curvature of the air zoom unit, and just your amazing attention to details in the technical and historical department. Loving it! 🥳🙌👟 Thanks Sagasu! Funny that I put out a post saying had picked up a pair today (well just as not many going) and everybody bar you said either will be a brick and/or lifestyle only. What you say here as being fairly narrow, like a regular Pegasus and a unique ride is certainly interesting. If it is a good 400g in a UK 13 (as seems will be) then not ideal but I kind of think now that a shoe fitting well and a ride you like is more important especially for a non race shoe. Case in point ZF6 is not light but does not feel heavy which say a Novablast always does for me.

I like how it really feels like a pegasus while being something totally new. I tried it on and it reminds me of how the peg 37 and 38 felt in their best moments where you bounce off the forefoot to get the most feedback vs pushing to get the shoe to roll forward. Interested to see if this is a game changer for high mileage training. It is definitely ugly in a frankenshoe sense where simplicity is nowhere to be found
@SagasuRunning7 күн бұрын
You bring up an interesting point. I remember the leap from the peg 36 to the 37, it was massive, but great. I enjoyed both the 36 and 37, especially how aggressive the 37 was (though it did alienate many Peg fans). The Peg Pre is an even bigger leap, from the base Peg 41 (I also do get peg 37 responsiveness vibes), but unlike the leap form the 36 to the 37, the new Nike tiers allow for Nike to have BOTH the 41 and the Pre together. So if the Peg Pre isn't your thing, cool, you still have the 41 and Plus options. For a Pegasus fan it is exciting because it is very much a Peg, but also very much something new. That is quite exciting. I'm thinking through a few use cases for this shoe and will have some "vs" content out starting Sunday...

Amazing video as always-super detailed! I hadn't even considered the innovation of curved Air at the forefoot. I think this is especially interesting for Nike Basketball, where full-length Zoom Air is more commonly used. I've always wondered if Nike would be able to make it curve, and sure enough, they have! One question I do have, my 2nd pair of invincibles 3s are coming up on 300 miles and are due for an upgrade. I was eyeing the Zoom Fly 6 as a new daily, but not fully convinced it is the way to go. Would you recommend the Peg Premium or wait on the Vomero 18? I am using the Peg Turbo for tempo runs and absolutely love the feel of them. Thank you!

I never bought the Cielo X 1 but did demo them on a treadmill at a Hoka launch event. Tempo Next% V2 HAS to be coming, everything is there to make a true improvement to the shoe. Having the air unit only cover the mid/forefoot would potentially improve on one of the weaknesses of the V1, the thin section of ZoomX in the forefoot that just didn't age well compared to the rest of the shoe. It made the toe off feel lack luster fairly early in the life of the shoe. And while I have never lost a single air unit (pod style) in over 7 pairs of AlphaFly and Tempo Next%, apparently some people were really good at rupturing them. One would hope the 1 large air pod would be more robust, especially if the outsole completely covers the air unit from below. Hell, they could use a carrier foam to protect the sides of the air unit, and print air zoom on it. The trick will be the weight. If they can get the reference size down to 9oz for an Alphafly training companion. Winner! As for the beginning of the midfoot back towards the heel, given the intended use of a V2, the air unit wouldn't be needed back there. ReactX it up, keep the whole heel section solid (not sculpted out underneath like the AF V3) and it would be good enough, while keeping the weight down. Unless these air units are magically lighter than I think they are. The Tempo Next%, for the right runner, was a magical shoe. But that single air unit would/should expand the type of runners who would get the same feeling as those of us who consistently hit those dual air pods strike after strike.

I will say it's a very stylish shoe and I could easily see myself walking in them. I've had kind of a love-hate relationship with the air zoom units in the Peg, mostly because of how noticeable they were in the foam, though less so now that I'm used to them. A full-length air zoom unit would change that but a couple of things have me worried. One, that looks like a bulky shoe, more so than I'm accustomed to run in. I watched Alex Filitti's vid yesterday and he commented on how he got tired after running on the Premium and wouldn't run more than 5k on them. Two, that narrower midfoot (how narrow?) may not help with pronation, a point I think RunTesters' Nick made in his vid. Looking forward to seeing how it compares with other shoes and the return of the performance matrix.
@SagasuRunning6 күн бұрын
You watch my content…. You know how o feel about bulky shoes. The Peg Pre one bulky, it’s rather agile. The narrow midfoot, something very Nike (and they I prefer) adds to the nimbleness of this shoe. I never once felt this weight this shoe on foot. It’s very well balanced and from 5k pace onward, even on a 200m track, and had no issues. There is an old adage in running of “Train heavy, race light.” Going from the Pre Pre to the ZF6 was noticeable how light (and fast) the ZF6 felt (and the ZF6 isn’t light compared to a AF3/VF3). I can’t imagine “getting tired” running in this shoe. I’ve found this shoe very capable… and (as you know) it’s not the type of shoe I normally respond too.

@@SagasuRunning You make a very good point about "train heavy, race light" that I hadn't consider. And at the end of the day, only when running will you be able to tell if you feel the weight or not. I think Thomas from BITR also didn't feel the weight.

@drwilycoyote38047 күн бұрын
Not sure if it's a natural / relevant comparison... but my mind immediately went to Pegasus Premium vs Evo SL! Also - do you suppose the weight is coming from the density of compressed air in the zoom unit?
@SagasuRunning7 күн бұрын
I've been testing the ESL and PegPre back to back...I have to say they cover the same speeds in very different ways. The ESL is MUCH simpler and leverages the rocker and LSP resilience perfectly (though often to aggressive for daily running, as I've pointed out in many videos)...where the PegPre feels much more mechanical in how it works (especially when run in back-to-back with the ESL's simplicity). They tick the same boxes as fas as speed, but feel totally different. The weight comes from the Air unit structure. The material the holds the air in. Additional in the Peg Pre, there are a lot of other materials in the shoe. The outsole alone is heavy. I could see Nike being able to shave 50-60g off of this shoe quickly, though I wonder about durability at that point as a trainer.

Can you see if the Air zoom layer/bag is all conected or separeted adjacent bags? I think 2 or 3 splits could work, and 3 splits with some sort of valve to tweak air Flux from compartment to compartment, and even asymmetrical valves (hard to sink, easy to pop back). Guess it would be engineer dream playground to tweak this.
@SagasuRunning7 күн бұрын
It is a single bag. Though I would guess there are channels molded into the top/bottom walls to direct airflow as well as some type of zoning in the tensile fibers. It would be fascinating to get into and engineering deep dive on the Air Zoom unit here... though it would quickly get into NDA type stuff sadly.

I have been looking for a good Nike trainer to insert into my mostly Adidas rotation and this Peg Premium looks so tempting. If there is no durability concern on the air zoom unit and if this has medial stability on the heel, then I might seriously consider this. My other option is to wait for the 2025 version of the Structure.
@SagasuRunning7 күн бұрын
The Peg pre is much more stable that I expected. There is a MASSIVE medial heel flare on it. Though it still is a tall and narrow platform overall, keep that in mind. One of the main things I want to test is the stability between the PegPre and V18. They have similar stacks, though I think the V18 is wider. I will be back with the "vs" in March.
@FtL_CS4 күн бұрын
@SagasuRunning From what I have heard, the Peg Pre feels wobbly (too tall and narrow), requiring a lot of foot strength and probably won't suit my form as I tend to heel strike on easy paces. I think I will wait and see how Nike updates the Structure family in this year, if they will.
@SagasuRunning4 күн бұрын
@FtL_CS I would agree with this. Foot strength helps quite a bit. One (of many) reasons i go on an on about the importance of it. Though, I do think this shoe can suit a heel striker just fine. it’s not as “wobbly” as it’s made out to be in all those reels/shorts in the heel.

Tried it for a min at the shop, talk about a shoe that really does force you to run slow, a true "recovery" shoe, and to me feels like the only one in existence... Which i feel is a good thing. Way too clunky for top speed, though i didnt try top speed, nor did i want to, too luxurious in the slow ride. Felt strange seeing it being called the "Premium" though. The metal inserts, and the lack of a rocker gives the whole "sportstyle" vibe. To me, theres a fine line between stacked upon stacked technology and innovation, and "the worlds greatest walking shoe".
@SagasuRunning7 күн бұрын
They certainly are fun for slow running...but I found they really come alive for faster paces. HMP and 10k were optimal in this shoe for me. The traditional geometry is a massive selling point for me too. As I pointed out extensively in the video. This should wouldn't work with a massive forefoot rocker. it would be an absolute mess.
@mikea67107 күн бұрын
@SagasuRunning at the time, I couldn't see myself going in those for a threshold run, but then again I didn't try that in the store, maybe next time.. if that's the case, I'm quite intrigued at the idea, that it doesn't look like something to time trial in, but can if you 'flick the switch' Alas I'm not keen of the overall look of the stacked up unit.., though I did get excited at the upper material and design, feels great, wouldn't mind that even on a race shoe
@SagasuRunning7 күн бұрын
@mikea6710 I found these great for threshold speeds (MP) but even better at HMP and 10k… The upper has some good textiles on it. But the “circular mesh” material on it is very similar to the VF3 upper material.

I like its style so much that if ever I buy one it will just be a lifestyle shoe for me. While they can be used for 5k-10k, Vaporfly 3 are a race day shoe more tailored for half marathon and marathon distances. When compared to the Streakfly, Vaporfly are more stiff because of the carbon plate. Personally I like the VF3 and would recommend it.

The promise of this style Air Zoom unit is that it won’t fatigue like foam. So the Air Zoom unit should be the most durable component of the shoe as far as lifespan. I don’t really see this shoe comparing to the SB2. If can do long runs but is more capable… I’ll need to spend more time in this to decide. Nike also has a literal SB2 killer coming out later this year… so it’s not this shoe.

I’ve never reviewed it… but have tried it on multiple times and jogged in them in store. The biggest difference I can say immediately is that the Peg Pre is more stable underfoot. Also, the fact there is no massive rocker in the forefoot makes the shoe infinitely more usable. I do plan on covering the PX3S this year though and will likely do a “vs” between these two shoes.

Curious what you think the durability of this shoe is... I'd consider picking one up for digital nomading as my only shoe if it could push close to 1000km, but if the shoe is toast after 500km it would be a waste as that would flash by in only a couple months of combined casual/running use.
@SagasuRunning7 күн бұрын
I'm going to be honest.. expecting even 500k form a performance shoe is mind blowing, let alone 1000k. No performance shoe will do that. A basic EVA shoe, sure. That being said, this shoe is very well built and the promise of Air as a cushioning system is that it should feel the same at 1k as it does at 500k with no fatigue in the resilience.
@brandall1017 күн бұрын
@@SagasuRunning Have seen reports on reddit getting in the neighborhood of 1000km on Superblasts and AP3s. Lighter runners of course and not peak performance, just being serviceable as running shoes. Just passed 500km on my Plaid 1.5s and they look and feel new, CPU outsole w/ TPEE foam, and reports from China are some are taking them to 2000km. Mostly concerned about the tread... it seems to be wearing quite well on these that it could last that long? My thinking on the foam is only half those kms would be running, so it wouldn't be subjected to as much stress. Based on your current usage, how long do you think you'll have a 500km report on these?
@SagasuRunning7 күн бұрын
I’ve seen those reports on Reddit. I think you need to take many with a grain of salt. Especially Reddit. As for the outsole on the Peg Pre. It’s very rigid and thick. I so think it will withstand quite a bit of wear. Not CPU outsole durability, but very good. The thing is though is that the forefoot outsole is thick. The heel is rather minimal. Walking is a heel-to-toe motion, so I think the forefoot outsole will be fine while the heel outsole may not at 500k.

The thing I can't get with is the weight. I can't understand where all of it comes from when the materials are all premium and whatever.
@SagasuRunning7 күн бұрын
The Air Zoom unit is heavy. There is a weight penalty for it over foam. There are also alot of materials on the shoe. If Nike streamlined the upper I bet they could save 20g at least. The outsole material is also very thick and heavy. Changing that out to a rubber, like on a standard Peg would drop more weight (I’ve asked why the outsole material is as rigid and heavy as it is, I think they’re just be some structural/durability reason. I don’t think it would be hard to remove 50-60g from this shoe, though the durability and solidness of it might drastically change.

There is nothing new in this shoe per se. What is new is the cost of 210 dollars which means that Nike implemented more expensive ( and current like nitrogen infused) materials into this shoe. For example Pegasus 41 has the same combination of Air Zoom, ZoomX ( edit: ReactX) but for me Pegasus 41 was nothing special and didn’t feel bouncy at all. I don’t understand Zoom Air used to be bouncy many years ago - not anymore. What has happened? Saving cost or is it “green” recycled materials which turn things worse? Yesterday I tried in a store Nike V2k Run ( Vomero 2000) and was very surprised to find forgotten bounciness of older Pegasus shoes which I loved. I’m anticipating new Vomero 18 which will be without Air unit ( just ZoomX and React) and it will be probably the shoe which people are waiting from Nike - the comfortable all rounder for reasonable price. Pegasus line doesnt deliver for me personally and for many other people. They were hyping Pegasus 41 as an improvement over previous versions. Nope. Almost the same as 40. Now it seems that Nike can make their Air Zoom exciting but only for the price beyond 200 dollars. Vomero 18 should be that all rounder for 150 dollars BUT without their Air unit. For some weird reasons Nike can’t make their React shoes as comfortable as several yeas ago.

So I stopped reading this after you said the Peg41 has ZoomX. While Nike’s use of Air Zoom is ambiguous, the tech in this shoe is VERY different than the Peg41. @@SagasuRunningWell. I don’t like Pegasus 41 and find it not enough comfortable even for walking.

@proudbacteria1373 The Peg41 is both my main trainer AND the shoe I compare every other trainer back too. It is also the shoe I wear casually…. We seem to have very different tastes. 🤷🏼♂️

Heavy, clunky, way too much padding. Long gone are they days of Lunar Tempo and Air Zoom Elite. If this is Nike's direction - good luck

Out of curiosity… how far have you run in your pair?
@stefan23383 күн бұрын
@SagasuRunning frankly speaking zero, I got a pair for testing, but after walking around at home for some days I decided to return them, just doesn't make sense to test shoes I dislike from day 1

@@SagasuRunning I am rooting for you, but I am also pretty sceptical.

@henya2409 I mean. I can only report my experience with the shoe. I did spend over 50mi (02km) in them for this review in a wide range of paces, terrains and conditions. I didn’t just got for a 2mi run and call it a day…
