I for one, am glad that Nike is panicking hard enough to bring back a LOT of OGs for next year. Grape 5's, Aqua 8's, the upcoming Black Metallic 5's, the Wu Tang Dunks, the Fear 4's. Lot of old heat is gonna be hitting the outlets.

As someone who’s worked for the brand for 14 years, one of the biggest reasons I loved working there was the innovation and creativity in what was always next and new. Nowadays they’re solely focused on cash grab retro footwear that still has exclaim and they know will sell out easily, but it’s so over saturated now to the point where there’s no mystery or exclusivity for demand. Some products here and there but the not same as 10 plus years ago. As I always say, it’s always about quality and not quantity and the quality is definitely not it for Nike now.

Shoutout to you MK and I agree with your thoughts about innovation but I believe that is just one layer of nike's problem. Another huge issue is they do collabs in limited quantities as well as GRs like kobes as well limited. If you have millions of fans of kobe, travis scott, off white etc how the in the hell 30k-200k pairs will cover millions that want the pairs?

Agree with your point. I got into sneakers when Nike basketball was peaking and it hasn’t been the same since. Looking back it was a perfect balance of the performance and hype cultures. Shoes were popular enough to be credible on the street but didn’t sell out in .5 seconds so they were available for your high school hooper who wanted something fly.

Mannnnnnnnnnnn for someone that ran track back in the 90’s I’ve never gravitated to Nike whatsoever. If I was going casual then hell yeah I threw on some air max (1, 90s, 95s, 97s, TNs). They were just too bulky and heavy back then. I also remember when Nike basketball ruled the market back in the 90’s too. Now you see all the Nike basketball shoe in the outlets in masses. It’s good from a consumer standpoint but as a brand it’s not a good look.

Nike needs to improve their quality (never happening to real standards), stop dropping shoes that are outlet bound & start producing large amounts of highly desired stuff vs the aforementioned.

Agree 100%, Nike’s design team have been horrible for at least a decade now. Retros and collabs have been pretty much the only strong suits of Nike for a long time now. I really miss the design language Nike had in the 90s and early 2000s. And in general, I don’t think shoes should be exclusive and hard to obtain, because the majority of the exclusive releases, especially back in 2000s, had the best color ways and materials (the main ingredients that make the shoe great and draws more buyers). What nike needs to do is give us higher quantities of good color ways with elevated quality of materials, instead of watering down one good silhouette with a bunch of wack color ways and crap materials until people can’t look at that silhouette anymore.

I think Joe freshgoodz is the reason new balance colorways evolved. After his arrival NB started dropping fire colorways… granted as of late his shoes haven’t been as detailed or mix and matched with colors. Nonetheless you are right, Nike has let Jerry go, who was as original as they got and relied on collaborating with artist, Travis and regretfully Aubrey. Air max hasn’t evolved… vomero looks like NB, and the ISPA department is absent. Retros are ran in the ground

Older product is actually just better when it comes to Nike, the height of Jordan being the face of Nike and air max running shoes were unmatched . They can’t replicate that 1-2 punch again.

I’d argue Nike is more innovative than every other sneaker company. When you’re at the top you’re going to have some rainy days. Other companies are doing great things. I think they should reduce the amount of sneakers released and just release what people want as far as retros are concerned. Alphafly’s sell out at a $285 price point. Also Jordan brand has profits have been trending upwards and it is kind of the most redundant line.

Nike keeps bringing back these old running shoes and nobody buying them even with collab like union filed general. Asics, new balance, hoka etc make better running shoes. Vomero 5 only thing they got and the retail is too high on those. We need new innovation like you said.

Nike just got lazy, they were the new kid on the block and considered jeepers. They were willing to take risk then. Years on top has them focused more on performance and innovation rather than design. Running shoe companies are digging into their vaults and bringing it, meanwhile we getting a Jordan 1 hi and a dunk low every week 🥱

Bingo! They also lack innovation and are really out of touch with the demand of their consumers. The stuff that the ppl really want like Travis Scott’s and Kobe’s are really limited and back doored. For years Nike didn’t give a damn because they felt the consumers would cop regardless but man oh man times have changed. A LOT more kicks are sitting because of the economy and ppl are fed up. That’s what they’re releasing all hyped stuff 2025.

It’s because of all the cheap synthetic leather knockoff colors sitting in the mall stores ie footlocker etc. nobody wears that shit, look bring back the air max 95 in all the classic colors, what about the green suede Nick huaraches? My thoughts. The signature athlete (Jordan) made them and now that the signature model is getting played out…it’s also breaking them. MJ is still the man. Carrying his weight with revenue. But what about every other department? MJ hasn’t been even remotely touched in fashion influence. Sorry Lebron. The mystique is wearing off. So much so that it might as will be Jordan Inc.
