I saw this photo on twitter ( / 1164670887032971269 ) where this ladies Nike Slides had shrunk in her car. So I wanted to see if I could replicate the results… turns out, Nike Slides DEFINITELY shrink in the heat caused by the sun in a closed car. I was pretty shocked to see how much they do in fact shrink.
The pair I tested (size 9 mens) shrunk 1.5 inches (3.81 cm) in total after sitting in my car for 10 days!
After doing some digging I found a research paper that clearly outlined that Slides are made out of a material called EVA (Ethylene Vinyl Acetate).I’m not 100% sure why the foam shrinkis, but if I had to guess it’s because the foam is actually melting and the small air pockets that make the foam are collapsing or condensing into a smaller more compact form of EVA.

The material is called E V A Foam/rubber. Cheap type of rubber. Its the same material thats used to make super hero costumes. A heat of probably 120°f will cause it to soften. When you buy those Nike slides or any shoe like it with a famous/ infamous name, you're literally only paying for a logo and name on some shoes you could've made yourself.

Wal-Mart would be the winner due to both companies selling the same type of slides, made of the same material but at different prices. So if Footlocker sales it for $80 and Wal-Mart sales it for $10. Wal-Mart slides just literally out-lasted the Footlocker slides since you can buy 7 more of those slides at Wal-Mart.

Crocs also shrink if u leave them in the car. For the longest time I was really confused as to how my son had 2 different crocs both missing a pair. I FINALLY realized one must have been left in the car one hot summer day.

This just happened to my girlfriend's Adidas Adilettes on our porch in Germany and it was about 75 degrees outside that day. It happened in about 1-2 hours. I can't imagine them being in the rear window of a car. Crazy because we wore them in Asia last August without a problem.

My dog stole one of my slides and left it in the yard and when I finally found it it had shrunk at least 2 sizes. The other was left on the verandah and it has been really hot here in Australia so it has shrunk 1 size. Not happy. I read that you can unshrink crocs by boiling them then wearing them to stretch them out. So I'm gonna try that.
