I love that last shot of camper in the front seat, just laying his head down, in his home, with his pack, just so relaxed and recovering in peace. LOVE THAT! Glad he's OK.

Yes, it appears that his mom rigged up a type of extension of his front seat for a &more comfortable ride ❤️ The things we do for our dogs. I miss my dogs so much. After seeing my neighbors’ 2 normally friendly dogs keep a creepy, middle-aged man at a distance, I really feel that I should seriously consider investing in a guard dog for safety then, we can grow old together 👵🏻 lol, I’m in my 60’s now and completely intimidated about leaving my current abode because of creeps! In the meantime, I need to seriously prep myself with mace & a taser again! 😟

Don't feel like a bad mommy to Camper. One, you didn't know about foxtails and two, any dog that's outdoors regularly will somehow end up with a foxtail in its nose or also between their toes (also requires surgery). Camper is very lucky to have such a great mommy that loves him so much. 💛
@hi_im_drea Жыл бұрын
I’m glad Camper is ok. Foxtails are the worst. They also like to burrow on their paws. Make sure to always check Camper’s paws after being outside. My dog Shelby got one and my poor little thing needed to get on antibiotics since it left her an injury on her paw.
@bangalorebobbel Жыл бұрын
yes these things can even enter blood vessels in the paws and go further up, this is extremely dangerous and needs a fast surgery. And they can also enter the ears and create harm there, not to forget. Really horrible enemies for dogs.
@kristyb3714 Жыл бұрын
They burrow anywhere they make contact. They are all over NV as well. My Chow got one in the side of her cheek as a puppy. Found it before it burrowed into her jawbone. Nasty horrible things. Always check your dog over

The so called 'danger' of Foxtail grass for dogs is way overrated🙄 Dogs are fine running or even rolling around in it without a problem and will cause zero harm. A hooked burr inside Camper's nostril would have eventually been blown out through sneezing, although the vet extracting it with tweezers obviously relieved the discomfort a bit quicker.

Looked like Camper but bigger... he snorted a Foxtail... while on a creek that looked just like the one you were on... a big one right up his nose... and as soon as I saw poor Camper sneezing like that, I instantly said... Foxtail. The Vet pulled it out under antistatic cuz it was way in there. They used forceps and pulled a four inch long foxtail out... no worries after that. Happy to see he's OK.

Long ago (1964), when we lived in La Mesa, our neighbor, who had two dachshunds, had one of the dogs get into some foxtails. We left that area before I learned the ultimate outcome of that situation. Obviously, foxtails are still around. Not to mention poison oak, which we were cautioned about. Compliments to the vet.

SO Glad you got that foxtail in time and sweet boy is fine. I live in California and we're surrounded by foxtails in the summer, so my dogs get foxtails from time to time. It's important to keep an eye on their fur, ears, between their toes, genitals, everywhere, because those awful things can burrow in anywhere, especially hidden spots like between the toes, and cause awful problems. Big Hugs to you both.
@davidhawkins847 Жыл бұрын
Yep. And the biggest issue is that they have a barb like surface, so they only go IN. Used to have problems with some long haired dogs getting them lodged in the roof of their mouths trying to bite them out of their fur. When they get in the animal's nose, they can work their way up into the sinuses. If lucky, you can catch it while still in the nasal cavity and pull it out without anesthesia.

They can also burrow into dogs feet and ears. So if you ever see Camper shaking his head alot, check his ears for foxtails.

Foxtail is found in every state, bar seven. If you own a dog and spend time outside (which you should, given you own a dog) please look up this plant and which species grows in your state. They can be found in fields, areas of water etc. and tend to grow year round in the west. They can be deadly to dogs if not treated. Incessant sneezing is the most common sign. So glad Camper was treated quickly. You are such a good mom.

I'm glad that Camper is going to be fine. It's definitely one of those live and learn experiences. You're a great and loving PAW-parent. Foxtails can be found throughout California, including where I'm at in LA/Orange Counties. I used to actively try and keep my Aussie Shepherd from shrub areas (with her being born deaf/blind, I was her eyes and ears for 14 years until her passing last month after just turning 16). Even then, I still had to carefully inspect her coat and skin to make sure she was all clear of those pernicious things.

I'm so glad Camper is OK! How scary 😱. Something to pick up the next shopping run is a bottle of Tecnu. It's a soap that you can use on your skin, on Camper and on any contaminated laundry. It binds to the poison ivy / oak or sumac oils and removes them with cold water. You can also apply it beforehand as a preventative, and even after exposure without water if you can't shower off right away. Hubby does landscaping and it's saved us many times!

This is the worst year for foxtails that i've ever witnessed. All the rain spread the invasive grass and it's everywhere. The seeds can hide beneath sand. A foxtail entered my dog's paw between two toes, doc couldn't locate it during procedure, and a week later it exited the leg. I hate foxtails. They will be around California for the whole year until they germinate next winter. :( Our pups are our kids and it's so stressful and I am so happy that Camper is OK!

Foxtails are really dangerous for animals, contrary to some commenters’ beliefs. Not only are they easily inhaled by sniffing dogs, they also get stuck between paw pads, and can work their way through an animals skin, causing infection. The construction of the foxtail first catches easily onto passing fur or clothing with a barbed hook, then “burrows” further due to the spiral structure on the seed. This makes them difficult to remove by simple sneezing or licking. A lot of dog owners here put hoods on their dogs when they are in dangerous areas.

My Boxer had one of them in his nose and, because their nasal passage is so convoluted, it can be a major problem. We had been out in the bush, I'm Australian, and I'd noticed some of these things on his face as he was running through the long grass. The next morning he was snorting a lot, just like Camper, so I took him to the vet. Told the vet what I thought might be the problem and, just like Camper, they found and removed it. Those foxtail can be bad for cats too, get stuck in their mouth/throat, if eating grasses. Your laundry soap sheets: Tear into small pieces, Put in machine where liquid/powder soap goes, they will dissolve faster/better. Are you heading north with the summer? Sierra Nevada mountains off 395 still has plenty of snow and beautiful scenery. You should try Tioga Pass area for hiking. I think you and camper will love the area around Saddlebag Lake, above Lee Vinning. Although the road will not open until AFTER July 4th!

My first thought when Camper started sneezing was the air quality from the Canadian wildfires. I know these videos are a few weeks old but this week the greater Chicagoland area was hit really hard by bad air quality and we were all miserable. A couple weeks ago I know my friends in New York were struggling. Fortunately some storms came along and mixed up the air and thinned out the smoke so it’s better today.
