Yea well nice to have memories kind of like mine of NY when I was growing up. But sadly it along with the old Daytona beach don't exist any longer except in our minds. The place is loaded with homeless, crime and grime. Tourist overtake the area, traffic is a nightmare, and walking anywhere at night is not safe.

Daytona of the 80s and 90s like most of America dose not exist any longer now just traffic, grime and crime and and endless stream of high as the space station zombies roaming the streets and beaches. Live near by and trust me never set foot here only for work and then it is back in the truck over to the main land.

You are correct that Daytona Beach had a crime issue with the biker gangs and everything that goes with it. However Melissa county did a very good job in cleaning up the crime to make it more tourist friendly place I never had an issue, however I was a beach guy and I stayed on the beach basically.

I went 8 years ago to Daytona Beach with my lovely wife to celebrate our 11th Wedding Anniversary and it was cold but we loved it. You’re lucky Rick as you’re a local Florida boy who went a lot more than I did. But my first real trip to Daytona Beach back in 1988 right before I was discharged from the Army. I had a great vacation. Lots of memories on the boardwalk.

My parents moved to Daytona in 1965....when I was 10 !! Daytona in the 60's and 70's was a wonderful safe place to grow up ! Open beaches to everything......dogs-----fire pits.....huge picnics.....you could surf anywhere and fish all over........A1A was a 2 lane road and everyone was nice !!! The 80's ruined this town with out of control spring breaks....as the kids destroyed the motels over time and the greedy owners didn't put the money back into their places and for the next 20 yrs the town went down hill !!! Seems in the last few years new owners and new money have started to slowly build the place back.......we shall see !!! Still there are places we love to go in town ......golf courses.....the beach on the north and south end.......fishing the river and the inlet......many places to eat and of course Bike week and Race week !!! I'm a biker so have been to almost every Bikeweek event since 1970

I've alway's thought that a Sky Wheel Ferris Wheel would be nice for Daytona Beach like what they have for Orlando,Myrtle Beach and Atlantic City.I was at Myrtle Beach in January last year and the hotels off season was super cheap there, the weather was obviously cooler but nice, usually sunny in the high 50s,low 60s.

Pretty good. However, I am a dedicated Daytona Beach person as I love it here. I would have mentioned how clear the water is also how nice and blue the ocean is here. Also, how there are SO MANY Pelicans here!!! Also, how amazing the varying colors are in the clouds formations during the evening as the sun sets. I've never seen such amazing could formations here...and again...the amount of Pelicans as they glide prehistorically all along the coast line both having fun gliding and also looking for some delicious seafood! One last thing...and it's an amazing "thing".....the beach is like Rick said...a nice soft hard-pack, and here is the great thing...is that the beach is quite flat and this flatness goes out into the ocean for a really long ways...therefore it is shallow for a long way out, and the water is a clean clear blue color and very clear from the beach all the way out. The water is almost always very mellow and great for kids, even really young kids. I just love how clear and blue the Atlantic Ocean is here.

@@markcosta4337 Gee Mark I think we had that solution way way back in history, like the 50s and 60s. A ton of the homeless are mental cases that had been locked away in mental hospitals. But some how the government thought wouldn't it be nice to turn them release so they can camp out in the woods down the street of me. Littering taking drug drink and and adding to the rich diversity that is now the US of A.
