This sounds so good !!!! I kick ass. I totally agree with Lauren - take some time away and you will find that ❤️

As an artist you have to be able to have a connection with your work so I totally understand the desire for change. I know that I get sick and tired of hearing my own songs... it’s a part of being the artist, producer and sound engineer all yourself... by the time the final product is shown to people I’ve heard them so many times that they aren’t fun to hear anymore and I’m nit picking them. I just choose to believe in that initial spark that inspired me to write it in the first place. I hope you find a sort of style or something that keeps the spark to create alive in you! Look forward to your next video!

I was in choirs for so long, and I never thought I do something like punk or metal vocals, but after practicing and practicing, I'm pretty decent! And I only want to expand from there. You do you, Nikki, as long as you keep the passion and vibrancy in place, your fans will follow you everywhere. At the very least, this new fan will. 🌻

Many of us musicians/vocalists face this feeling over the years of doing what we do. It isn't easy creating music and it is physically/mentally draining to do what we do. I think you need a break from what you are currently doing and to take time focusing on other aspects of what is possible and make things more fresh for yourself. Try screaming and other singing techniques. Just like learning guitar, drums or anything else, the road of vocals is vast and endless! I wish you good luck with finding a new part of yourself.

You nailed it! The road to success on any instrument is vast and endless and what a great thing that it is
@kevinfisher13455 жыл бұрын
Exploring a new path, from one extreme of loud to another extreme of soft is fine. Great actually. But if you find yourself getting bored of hearing yourself and/or singing. Stop recording so much, just get out and enjoy singing just for the fun of singing. Having to record and edit all of that is a completely different task and job, which can take you away and remove you from the actual part of singing itself. Idk, hopefully it is just wanting to explore and expand your art, because I enjoy watching and hearing these .. but if not, you need to do want you need to do. Edit: Tbh, how I really found you (although think had heard you before) was with that co-lab _Into the Fire_ song in which you went from loud singing to growling to soft singing. I loved that interchanges, all the various background singings you added to it. And thought each individual part was prolly not best I had heard, but the range in styles all together was damn good.
@NikkiSimmons5 жыл бұрын
I wish I could take some time away but I've made this my job and it's something that I need to keep building. I think I have a good grip on it from a "work" perspective, but in my spare time, exploring a different side that could possibly translate over into the work aspect of it is going to be good for me. Thank you for supporting
@Yusio5 жыл бұрын
it's fascinating how no matter what type of art- whether its music, painting or something else, every artist goes through a realization that they're in a comfort zone and deciding what they want to do about it. I really understand what you mean- wanting to find more of YOU. Because I paint, I can imagine an artist who gets used to a certain palette or drawing a certain subject and thinking they've captured every angle of the model or knows every combination of that palette- and is now reaching for something new. The things you'll learn, and the rush you'll feel of discovering a new way to express emotion...! Of course, the growing pains and adjustment period of figuring out these new things will be frustrating, but being able to bring that back to the table and seeing how your voice and artistry evolves from it? It will all be worth it. Good luck with your artistic journey! looking forward to what lies ahead for you :)
@NikkiSimmons5 жыл бұрын
thank you so much!! if I can be honest, I've been quietly working on these things in the wings for about 2 months or so. I filmed a cover this week in the new style already and while it's not totally polished, it is a step in the right direction. I love your analogy to art because it's so true!! all artists of any medium must get a little bored when they become complacent or realize they've plateaued a bit. but that's easy to overcome if you have a creative and curious spirit.

Try doing a genre you hate. Sounds terrible, I KNOW, but it might oddly help you find new places for your voice to go. I’ve found just simply listening to weird genres of music and ones that I dislike unlocking new ways of using my voice and mind musically. Whenever I think of a band that’s managed to do this over time, I reference Dance Gavin Dance. Although they have a certain style, I find it one of a fluid nature where they encompass many many genres and tilian manages to do different things for his solo career as well as dance Gavin dance. Just do everything you’ve never done. You might like it

that's really sound advice actually!! sometimes we shut ourselves off from music because we don't like it or whatever and miss out on a lot of knowledge because of that reason.

Hi Nikki, I discovered your videos after watching your Co-Lab with Meytal Cohen. i still listen to it now. Also just watched your cover of "I Believe in a Thing Called Love" several times. Love your voice, and your high notes -- Wow! I think you would be well-served to take a break, and come back fresh, if that's what you need to do. Also, take some vocal lessons, if that's what you prefer. I'm sure it would help bring out the other qualities of your voice. I can think of one example: When Madonna first started, they called her voice "Minnie-Mouse on helium". kzbin.info/www/bejne/ipmrq2ytoaeYgrc Years later, she took vocal lessons for her role in the musical Evita. You could really hear the difference in her voice after that. kzbin.info/www/bejne/iKmTnoyEaJd-ptU I also know what you mean by being a perfectionist. I play drums, but I don't sing (would like to learn). I look forward to whatever you do in the future! Good luck with everything! And Mary Spender is awesome, too.

Maybe try making trap music sound more appealing to me (I know that sounds so selfish) or randomly pick music that is trending on the charts and make them your own? By the way where can I buy the Evanescene cover of Bring Me To Life? I messaged Drewsif, but no reply :'(
@NikkiSimmons5 жыл бұрын
I think that was my problem in the past, I was trying to jump on trends and sing things for the wrong reasons :( I just want to do what I wanna do now. And that's actually a good question!! I'll message him and see if he still has it!

@@NikkiSimmons I completely understand, sort of going through a crisis of identity in my writing too, depression and anxiety doesn't help either. I'm sure you'll find your voice again and fall in love with it all over again, just as I will with my guitar playing; but I am here, just as we all are, if you need someone to talk to, as being one of those perfectionist self critics comes with it's mental baggage. If he does, I would like to be the first after you to know :) All the best Nikki, and just so you know, I think you're pretty awesome
