Jack Russell is already one of my favorite marvel universe characters. He's so charismatic and warm-hearted, a pacifist but not a coward. The dichotomy between the two sides of him is done so well and Gael Garcia bernal knocked it out of the park. So charming and lovable and the characters have great chemistry together. I really hope we get more of him Elsa and Ted soon 🙌🏼 they need to keep the monster hunting its own separate vein in the marvel universe separate from the superhero noise

Dr. Theodore “Ted” Sallis was a scientist who worked on a few different projects. One was a formula to give soldiers immunity to toxins. Long story (with several variations) short, he ended up in a swamp that contained the "Nexus of Reality". One of the super soldier variations he created mixed with gases in the swamp and the Nexus turning him into Man-Thing. The name is Jack Russell. Like the terrier. His "over 100 kills" weren't all kills. Most were rescues. The intro mentions the Avengers, but the story itself could have taken place at any time. Ted is naturally immortal. They could easily say that Jack's curse gives him a long life. And the Bloodstone in the comics already has that power. This show was fabulous!! I've watched it 6 or 7 times.

I love that Marvel really dug into their history with this. Ulysses Bloodstone, Werewolf, and Man Thing are all from the classic 70's comics when Marvel went crazy with the horror introducing all of them plus their own version of Dracula, the Living Mummy, and Frankensteins Monster. They have so much fun horror stuff from the 70's they could do Halloween specials for years to come.

Fun fact about the actor playing Jovan (the Scottish dude). That's Kirk Thatcher, who is only sometimes an actor. Usually he's a film director, producer, writer, and special effects designer. Behind the scenes work. The dude actually worked on visual effects for the original Star Wars trilogy. He's also directed three movies starring the Muppets, and prior to this, his biggest role was playing the punk on the bus in Star Trek IV: The Voyage Home (the one who is listening to the loud music, and who gives Kirk the bird when Kirk asks him to turn it down). He also had a cameo in Spider-Man: Homecoming as "Punk on the Street", and revised his character "Punk on the Bus" in the second season of "Star Trek: Picard."

"Ted" is the former scientist, Ted Sallis, who suffered a lab accident while in a mystical swamp...the combo of the two turned him into _*The Man-Thing,"_ Marvel's version of the classic swamp creature (he actually predates DC's _Swamp Thing_ by a few months). He, along with Jack (the "Werewolf by Night") are part of the rush of monster/supernatural characters Marvel published in the 1970's when the Comics Code began to weaken. An interesting bit of trivia--_Moon Knight_ got his start as an enemy/hunter in _Werewolf by Night_ Issue 24.

I loved the old school 1920-40’s aesthetics and that its in black and white color for most of it until the very end. Loved gothic atmosphere, subtle humor, the cinematography was amazing. What I did not expect at all was some blood and gore in this. The fight scenes were dope as hell. The plot and characters were intriguing. Had me sucked in from the very moment I started to watch it. The score by composer Michael Giacchino was one of my favorite parts about it. Very sublime and beautifully haunting while also having suspense and creepy Halloween kind of flare to it. It felt right in the spirit of all things related to the spooky season. I definitely do not see this coming at all. My only complaint was that it was too short! I wanted more of it!! Good job to Mr. Giacchino for not only scoring the special but also directing it as well. Hopefully the MCU will do more of these!

The attention to detail to make it look like an old b&w film was great, even down to the small white circles in the upper right-hand corner every ten minutes or so that use to signal projectionists to start the next reel of film in a few seconds so they could switch over to continue the film uninterrupted. Really hope we get a full series sooner rather than later.

this was a masterwork. The Man thing was a practical costume with CGI enhancements, The transformation scene was done practically in camera in one shot. there were cigarette burns in the "film stock" denoting the change of scenes and they degraded the video around them like they would be wit real film. They are doing more the next one it the Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday special.

Dudes! The After Death Arrangements reminds me of my Dad. He was a bar owner in New Orleans who owned and destroyed 4 bars from the 60's to the 80's (his first bar was The Monster's Lab, monster themed, he loved to theme his bars) and several years before he died he asked me to do this: If he owned a bar when he died, he wanted me to NOT tell anyone, instead, he wanted me to call all of his friends and invite them to a surprise party for him and to lay him out on the pool table. I can directly attribute that request to his love for Errol Flynn and I believe John? Barrymore. Barrymore and Flynn and a host of other buddies would hang out at Flynn's house and Barrymore had a preferred seat at the dinner table. The day after Barrymore was buried, some of those friends dug him up, brought him to Errol's and propped him up in his chair. When Flynn arrived it took him a second to register that Barrymore was there. Why wouldn't he be? Then he freaked. It is a deep regret of mine that my father did not own a bar at the time of his death because I would have done my best to make it happen!

Ted "Man Thing" was a scientist turned into a monster and is the Marvel version of Swamp Thing. Jack was a hunter and has a huge kill count. This is part of the MCU btw... Jack Russell is the original Werewolf by Night in the comics, although there he's a white man raised in Transylvannia, and fun fact, Moon Knight first appeared in Werewolf by Night #32 in 1975. Ted is Dr. Theodore Sallis also known as Man-Thing. He's been in the comics since 1971 one of the OG monsters in Marvel. His story is similar-ish to Hulk, a scientist got into a freak accident which turns him into a monster, and he's also the keeper of the nexus of all realities. If people fear him or hate him, they will burn at his touch. Elsa Bloodstone is a monster-hunter and the daughter of Ulysses Bloodstone (the corpse), who's main inspiration was Buffy since the character debuted in 2001. She teamed up with the likes of Blade and other supernatural heroes. She would fight vampires, monsters ect... So other than these 4 characters, the rest were all original...

He shares a lot of parallels with Swamp Thing from DC but I'm not getting into that debate. I wonder if this might not be a feeler about doing the supernatural team up movie / series there have been rumours of? We've seen Dr Strange, Werewolf by night, Man-thing there is a Blade reboot kicking around, we also have Morbius. There is always a chance of Scarlett Witch this is Marvel since when has dead been permeant. There is Agatha Harkness who in the comics was a good guy who has a series in the works lets not forget Ghost Rider so they have introduced a lot of characters that could fit in that type of group.

It feels like a comic book. I enjoyed the show. Man-Thing is so cool

Hopefully they will keep on with this area of Marvel. Man Thing (Ted) is important to the multiverse if they keep it. He guards the gateway to the multiverse in the Everglades. Ted's character history also links to the super soldier serum. Elsa and Jack can also relate to the Midnight Suns so links with Blade and Moon Knight. And yes Man Thing is a copy of Swamp Thing in DC. DC and Marvel do that.

Man Thing came first in May 1971 and Swamp Thing came two months after in July 1971.
