For brief breakdown of “Ted” his full name is Dr. Theodore "Ted" Sallis. He became the creature know as man thing when he drank a recreation of the super solider serum and drove straight into a swamp that was the Nexus of all realities. Which he in now the guardian of. Jack Russel aka Werewolf by night is a descendant of cursed bloodline put on by Dracula himself. Elsa bloodstone is part of a family of monster hunters(think the Belmonts from castlevania). His tag line in the comics was "Whatever knows fear burns at the Man-Thing's touch!" He and DC's Swamp Thing are definitely similar, and Man-Thing debuted just a couple months before Swamp Thing did. 2) I haven't heard any reactors mention this yet, but there was a fun little easter egg in the opening narration when he said the phrase "where monsters dwell," which was the title of a long-running Marvel horror comic. 3) I strongly recommend that you watch the Disney+ documentary "Director by Night," which is about Michael Giacchino and his brother, and how they grew up making movies with their friends. Looking forward to seeing you guys' reaction to this one - I just finished it myself, I thought it was great! What a fun special - I hope we see more of Jack and Elsa (and of COURSE, our fave guy Ted) in future.

I’m a big big horror fan and grew up with the MCU (Iron Man cane out when I was in 5th grade so I’ve been in the perfect age bracket lol) so this has easily become my favorite MCU project so far ❤

I remember reading the comic Werewolf by Night when I was a kid, but I barely remember much about it. I am glad that they stuck to the classic wolfman even though my inner me wanted a Dog-Soldier-esque type of werewolf.

Anyone else catch that in the mausoleum, he spun around before sitting down? That's when I figured that he was the werewolf. Also, after watching again, the monster he pointed out in the beginning is a vampire (I think). And we all know about the werewolf vs vampire thing.

I'm a big WWBN fan and I LOVED this so much...just the fact that Jack Russell is in the MCU just blows my mind!!!! I loved the story...I thought Jack was going to be the one hunted but him undercover to save Man- Thing was brilliant...He also looked so good in werewolf form...my only gripe is this was only a one-shot...although I am hoping Jack will resurface in a Midnight Sons show/movie
@cupguin2 жыл бұрын
It created as a one-shot but because Michael Giacchino didn't want to worry about tying it into something bigger. Definitely didn't make it too far away from the rest of the MCU so spin-off?! Sequel?? Cameos!?? I can't imagine this is the end of things.

Sometimes films do black and white, and it feels kind of pretentious, but it worked really well here for setting the tone. Especially with the lighting and limited use of the color red.

it's fun watching people react who are so into all the minutia some of us get bogged down in. You guys looking up characters such as Man-Thing and learning more about a character you did not know is much more refreshing than watching two of the minutia people argue the slightest "discrepancy" from the comics!

One of Man-Thing's powers is that anyone who feels fear is burned alive from his touch. Hence why Jack didn't get hurt when Ted tapped him.

10:08 actually, Man-Thing's (Ted) power consists of ACID PRODUCTION, that's why his footprints were marked on the stone floor of the labyrinth He can also concentrate the production in specific parts of the body to produce it much faster and use it as a weapon, that's what he did in this scene

This is one of the coolest monster movies I’ve ever seen! I thought it would be at most kind of good but this special is honestly a 10/10 for me. Michael Giachinno should direct the next Blade movie. I loved the use of film grain, black and white, and the very old school style soundtrack. And the makeup and visual effects for both The Werewolf and Ted/Man-Thing were amazing. I don’t think we’ll see them in an Avengers movie but I would love to see more of them as well as Elsa Bloodstone in future MCU projects. Also I loved the very subtle jokes of Jack being a wolf because before he sits down to talk with Elsa he turns around in place like a dog and in the cage he scratches his ear really fast like a dog.😂
@JessAnderson19882 жыл бұрын
Ha, I saw that turn he did before sitting down and wondered what that was about but didn't think to compare it to wolf behavior! I did catch the ear scratch as a werewolf hint though.

As a fan of the classic 1930's Universal monsters this was very well done. The music, lighting, acting all added up to a remarkable special. Even had cigar burns in corner of picture like cinema used to have. Great way to introduce characters we may not familiar with. Ending with "Somewhere Over the Rainbow" Classic!

Introducing Man Thing can pay off later on considering his place of dwelling, the Everglades swamp in Florida is considered the nexus of all realities. And I totally want to see Jennifer Kale being introduced later on. Brother Voodoo as well. But I loved the design of Man Thing, it was pretty accurate to the comics and way better than the 2005 movie.

It's almost a joke at this point how many super fans are dismissive of the idea that there's any good characters left to use in the MCU since all the "a-tier" characters were used in Phase 1. But back in the land of Marvel fans omg yes so many great possibilities with so many great characters.
@ignisinfernal1843 Жыл бұрын
@@cupguin I mean even that idea that all the A-tier characters were used in Phase 1 isn't even correct. Iron Man, Thor, the Guardians, and the most of the characters already in the MCU weren't even super popular until they were given a chance to have a movie and were well-written. You can take pretty much any comic character and make it work as long as it's written well.

A few things I noticed: During end credits, it shows a hand coming out of, what looks like Aunt Frances' tomb. Will she make an appearance? The guards have tech too futuristic for that time period. They look an awful lot like the TVA. And, in the very last scene, is the phonograph playing , 'somewhere over the rainbow,' the same phonograph that was playing in the garden? is man-thing a collector? there are items scattered about at their lair ... including a payphone. (also, not of this time period. nor sushi)

Ted is Man-Thing basically Marvel’s equivalent of Swamp Thing but his power is anything that feels fear burns at Man-Thing’s touch. He’s the protector of the Nexus of all realities in a Florida swamp which acts as doorways to alternate dimensions. He is friends with Howard the Duck who came through one of his portals, Jennifer Kale who is Johnny Blaze and Daniel Ketch’s cousin and he used to pal around with Franklin Richards the son of Reed and Sue from the Fantastic Four. When Luke Cage ran a group of Thunderbolts Man-Thing’s connection to the Nexus of All realities was used to teleport the team around, he was basically their transport.

Might have missed it, but I didn't see anyone in the comments answer the flaming tuba guy question... David Silverman is one of the key animators and directors of The Simpsons, and has been with them since the very beginning. Yes, he plays the tuba, and yes, that is actually his flaming sousaphone. He took it on Leno and Letterman in the early 2000s, and he's played in different groups over the years, including a couple times at Burning Man. Considering Michael Giacchino's connections to music, animation, and Burning Man, I'm going to assume he already knew Silverman and thought the flaming tuba would just be really cool to stick in the right movie.

I hope we get more of these hour-long specials than tv series’ in the future. It’s so refreshing to not have to wade through hours of fluff to get to the main story as with most of the D+ series’. The characters were interesting and the story itself was very solid. This was a successful experiment for the MCU.
