WbN was created in the early 70’s as a reaction to the Comics Code being relaxed, which allowed for the return of books about monsters and the supernatural; this is also when characters like GHOST RIDER and MORBIUS were created; Ted is Dr Ted Sallis aka Man-Thing; the Bloodstones fought cults and supernatural menaces; The Werewolf aka Jack Russel (pun not intended) fought against cults, supernatural menaces, and those trying to use or destroy him...and occasionally fought/ worked with Moon Knight, who premiered in his book...

This was so, so, SO GOOD!!! Easily one of my favorite things that Marvel has done!! Both Jack and Elsa were fantastic, and I can't wait to see more. A few other things: 1) They nailed Man-Thing!! He's my favorite Marvel monster, and I am so very happy with his introduction! For those who don't know, he was a scientist named Ted Sallis, and as Man-Thing he is drawn to people's emotions, especially fear. His tag line in the comics was "Whatever knows fear burns at the Man-Thing's touch!" He and DC's Swamp Thing are definitely similar, and Man-Thing debuted just a couple months before Swamp Thing did. 2) I haven't heard any reactors mention this yet, but there was a fun little easter egg in the opening narration when he said the phrase "where monsters dwell," which was the title of a long-running Marvel horror comic. 3) I strongly recommend that you watch the Disney+ documentary "Director by Night," which is about Michael Giacchino and his brother, and how they grew up making movies with their friends. It's extremely good! Keep it up Peaches!! You guys are awesome! BY NIGHT!!

They did Man-Thing so good! The showing off his powers really visualizes the "Whatever knows fear burns at the touch of... the Man-Thing!" Also his name really is Ted. Dr. Theodore "Ted" Sallis was a doctor working in the Everglades working with a team to try to recreate the supersoldier serum (because it's always that dang serum). A.I.M goes after him and after he is betrayed he destroys his research and while driving injects himself with the serum However, he crashes his car into the swamp where scientific and, as Man-Thing #1 later explained, magical forces combine to instantly transform him into a slow-moving plant-matter creature with large, solid red eyes.

Honestly, I think my favorite thing about this show was the fight choreography. It somehow felt so much more natural and visceral than what we normally see in Marvel properties. Something about the way the guards went up against Jack was so good. Instead of waiting for their turn, they were completely terrified of him and hesitant to attack. Too many times in fight choreography, the focus is so centered on the action that nothing is done to explain why the whole group doesn’t pile on at once, but here it worked so well. Even with the trained fighters like Elsa and the other hunters, there was a feeling of grit and dirty fighting, using whatever was at hand (literally) to survive and it felt so real.

Great reaction guys, I was not expecting this today. Good job. The inclusion of Man-Thing has a lot bigger implications than most of us realize. Man-Thing is the guadian of the Nexus of Realities, a crossroads into the multiverse. I have a feeling that location this is going to play a big role in the next few phases. Currently there is only one character in the MCU that knows where this nexus is, because he used it to get to the MCU. His name is Howard the Duck. (I know, I too never thought my Howard the Duck lore would EVER come in handy, but here we are) Man-Thing stops threats like the Dark Overlord from the Nexus of Somonus (the big bad from Howard the Duck's movie) from entering the MCU. (I have to rewatch this, I think there was a dark overlord stinger on display at stately Bloodstone Manor) I can't believe i'm advocating rewatching Howard the Duck, but it looks like it might be important in upcoming phases. (At least it's no longer the worst movie put out by Lucasfilm.)

As a life long lover of Universal monster movies, this was everything I hoped for and more! Best thing I’ve seen since End Game!

There were a number of great projects after Endgame though !

Agreed, but this just went beyond expectations like End Game did.

I have never understood why people are entertained by getting frightened, so this thing I was kinda hesitant to get into, but Marvel is Marvel, and I'm in. somehow I thought this was going to be a lot more scary than it was. so I had fun!

The Jon Lovitz joke is spot on, but instead of that, every time I hear "Werewolf by Night" the dang theme song to Moonlighting pops into my head "Some walk BY NIGHT, some fly by day..." But since it's from a show from the 80's I completely get that I am probably in the minority of the audience with this affliction. LOL

Elsa & Man Thing were my favorite by far. I had a pretty good time watching it, wish it was longer. Pretty good start to the "Supernatural" universe, my take.

I need more of Jack/Werewolf by Night, Man-Thing and Elsa. I'm not the only one here right?

The transformation and the fact that the werewolf we seen was cosmetics and not cgi was a very nice surprise. The transformation scene imo was genius using the shadows to show the transformation cause everyone knows marvel doesnt give the time and money for their disney plus shows and specials to give us great cgi so the director going that route was an awesome move..

I didn't think I could enjoy you two even more and now I find out you're Teen Wolf fans. Side note I was Giddy & ecstatic when I found out that both Johnny Cage and Martouf from Stargate SG-1 were on MTV's Teen Wolf.

I adore Elsa Bloodstone and Man-Thing, this was fucking perfect. Laura Donnelly ABSOLUTELY brought the thunder.

Werewolf ... by night! ... that's the ticket! If Elsa was the werewolf, John Lovitz would have said something like, once a month she turns into a real b... uh ... wolf, yeah, yeah, wolf, that's the ticket, a WEREwolf, she turn's into a werewolf. ... by Night! Elsa's moves taking out the hunters were epic; her skill, if not her charm, is disarming. Having your own weapon used against you sucks, but it must be worse to literally end up having a hand in your own death.

Yes, Marvel's Swamp Thing equivalent is Man Thing. The catch phrase is "All who know fear burn at the Man Thing's touch". A few famous Marvel characters like Howard the Duck appeared in the extra stories of the book Giant Size Man Thing.

If you want some more Elsa Bloodstone (Laura Donnelly), you can always watch The Nevers from HBO.
