That scream Theo releases after she touched Nell really hit me in the gut. It’s raw agony and grief. Ms. Siegel did wonderfully in that scene. She captures the grief of losing a family member in that single moment.

Nikki, you were right about actually listening to what children say and not dismissing their words too easily. Adults are always quick to consider what children say as a product of their imagination but there is always something behind it. It says something about their reality and the way they perceive the world. So I’m with you on that. And see, in that case, there was indeed a predator lurking in the shadows.

I think some parents do believe their kids, but they think that the best thing is to downplay what's happening, because they think acknowledging it would make the children even more frightened. Not an opinion that I agree with, BTW.

Nikki thank you for addressing the not believing the child issue. Unfortunately that does go on in a lot of abuse cases. We had one case over here where a family was visited over 100 times by social services because the child kept having unexplained bruises. At no point was the child believed. The parents story of falling down the stairs or falling over playing was always assumed to be truth. In the end the child was killed. This episode just brought that home, and I'm glad you addressed it.

Theo is such a great character & my personal fave! We share the same profession. Had to quit counseling kids in the foster system/CPS after several years. Only so much horror, sadness, & frustration a therapist can take when working with kids. Her initial response to the little girl's story seemed correct. IRL, case managers & counselors are trained not to react in ways that signal affirmation or denial of a person's account. The goal is to listen & respond in a way that maximizes detail collection. You learn to keep someone talking without giving your own personal sense of things away. Kids especially pick up on tiny cues & often work to test/gain positive reinforcement from adults. If you show approval or disapproval (even in your body language) they may alter their testimony or stop talking completely. Seems silly but listening in this way requires a lot of training & practice. It's harder work than it sounds like!

I just watched the episode for the first time and I've been paying more attention to the background because of a comment... I saw 4 things in this ep: the face at the stairs; when Theo is talking to Steven about the book's money, 2x a shadow walks outside the window; when Theo is about to enter the morgue house, there is a silhouette up at the window resembling what Steven saw in the first episode when the family was in the car leaving the house

I had a friend who was abused as a kid, no one ever believed her, no one validated or cared enough to...when she was older she got into drugs, ran with a very troubled crowd and was out of control. She said it stemmed from never being believed, so her ensuing low self esteem made her reckless and she made some horrendous choices bc she learned to stifle those memories. 💔I usually believe what children say. 😢

Ooo FYI, the freaky thing that pulled adult Theo's covers down was a wooden-faced Mr. Smiley - right after, Theo says, "Damn girl, you really got in my head!" in reference to the little girl's own trauma seeping into Theo's consciousness and staying there.

I was about 9yrs old when this incident happened. My family moved into this apartment and when we got settled I would go eat in the morning by myself. Everyday I walked passed the living room toward the kitchen I always felt a presence right by this love seat like someone was sitting there. One day I was walking by and I saw a pair of glasses looking at me it was very faint but I could see it. I started seeing the glasses everyday day or night but I didn't tell anyone. As time went on the person became more clear and it ended up being a lady with glasses and a long middle braid and a spring flower dress. I used to see this lady EVERY SINGLE DAY and then one day I didn't so I thought she left. One day while I was at home alone I decided to play Spyro the dragon in the living room on play station bc I couldn't take it to my room. I was playing the game and I started to get this weird feeling like someone was behind me. I looked back and no one was there so I continued playing. That weird feeling got really strong and I didn't realize I started shaking. I got to a cut scene in the game and the screen went black and I saw a pair of black legs behind me, I looked back and the legs disappeared. I was confused bc I was expecting the lady but she was wearing a dress not pants. I literally got up and ran to my room. I never told anyone about that experience until two days b4 we were about to move. I told my parents I saw a lady and my dad literally explained what she looked like, a pair of glasses with the braid and the dress, mind you I told no one about her. My dad also said he saw a man with black pants on who would sit on the long couch so I believe that's who was standing behind me. I think the craziest part of that experience was that I wasn't the only one who saw the lady my dad did, but also that a man was there too that I only saw once but my dad saw b4. I was glad my parents didn't shut me down when I told them what happened it was comforting especially as a child.

I also think that one of the things this story is saying is that adults frequently dismiss kids sensing or seeing things partially because they themselves saw things as kids, and they kinda NEED for it to have not been real. If their kids are just imagining things, then surely what they experienced was fake too, right? It's amazing the lies we learn to tell ourselves as a way of finding comfort and safety.

Disassociation is very common for children who have been abused. It's a coping mechanism. It's so sad unfortunately most people do not take the time to listen or pay attention to the warning signs. Poor kid, it breaks my heart. we need harsher punishment for pedo's like castration and life in prison. Theo is trying to find closure for not being able to help Luke.

Hey Guys! I love your reactions and I know that you were asking for spooky stories so here's mine. This happened about four years ago just before my 16th birthday. We had a little Harry Potter closet underneath the staircase with one of those fold in doors. My mom had put all of my decorations for my sweet sixteen in there, including 8 large vases and heavy glass pebbles that were on top of a few boxes. One day I was home alone after school and I heard a crash downstairs. I went downstairs thinking that my cat knocked something over, but I saw that the door to the closet was open, the boxes were pushed out, and the vases were on the floor in front of the boxes. Obviously I was shocked, and I know that no one else was home, because I definitely checked. I packed everything back up in the closet and went upstairs and took a nap cause I just didn't want to think about it lol. Anyway, I've never really been able to explain that, or the sound I heard, but we don't live there anymore so its chill.

You guys keep missing the ghosts hidden in the background..... There was one in the kitchen behind the glass while she was searching for the door, and one standing under the ladder when she opened the hatch. Most episodes have a few watching whats going on if you stop looking at the characters in the foreground. There are often a few over the series around the main staircase looking thru the railings. I keep waiting for Nikki to see one and freak out. Look in the background for doors, under furniture, around corners, etc :)

The only time I was ever haunted was by my cat. I had a cat named Sebastian and he lived with me for 22 years before he crossed the rainbow bridge. He was my best friend and comfort for all those years and I still miss him desperately. Anyway, about a month after he passed looking at his litlle casket of ashes and I told him I missed him so much. Later that evening I was sitting in a room and I looked out the door of the room into the next room and there he was sitting as plain as day with his back turned to me and then he turned his head and looked at me like come on Mom come get me something to eat and I turned my head and rubbed my eyes and looked back and he was gone. I broke down and tears and went and told my son that Sebastian had just haunted me and he said he knew you were missing him so he visited you to show you he was all right.

Hey Nikki and Steven, I wanted to share a creepy story of my own: This happened to me about 11 years ago when I was 18 or 19. I want to mention that I didn't (and still don't) believe in ghosts or anything supernatural, but it freaked me out nonetheless: It happened around 1am. I was lying in bed and had a pretty long day behind me. I had only been sleeping for about an hour or so before I woke up again and I couldn't go back to sleep for some reason. After about 5-10 minutes of rolling around, I rolled over to lay on my other side once more when I saw a ≈6ft. tall dark figure standing in the middle of my room, staring directly at me. -- I immediately jumped out of bed in panic mode and ran past it to turn on the lights. The ammount of adrenaline rushing through my body was off the charts(!) Once I reached the other side of the room I quickly turned on the lights and turned back around only to see the figure disappearing as the light hit the room. My heart was beating so fast. I remember standing there for a while, eyes wide open, checking every corner of the room to make sure "the person" wasn't hiding anywhere (the thought of it being a burglar briefly crossed my mind), but there was noone there -- After what seemed like an hour had passed I came to the conclusion it was just a very vivid product of my imagination, but it scared the living shit out of me nonetheless. I'll never forget it.

Sounds creepy, but my sceptical mind is drawn towards the following: "1am", and "pretty long day behind me", and "woke up". As someone who has suffered a lot with sleep paralysis over the years, I have first hand experience of just how powerful the human mind is in that state between being asleep and being awake. But, of course, without having your exact experience, I wouldn't make any definite claims. :)

It started out with just once every now and then, but happend more and more as time went on. I finaly quit my job and found a new one with less stress... It took some time, but its rarely happen anymore, i can sleep in peace again.

This episode is by far my favorite and also to me the most scary as well with the zombie crawling in the basement and 'mr. smilie' showing up by Theodora's bedside.

8:14 THANK YOU NIKKI! "Why are they always trying to talk kids out of what they think they are seeing".... I ACTUALLY got up and clapped when you paused to say this. You may have just saved someone's child who is enduring TORMENT and being ignored. This means you are an awesome mum who does not ignore shit!! THANK YOU NIKKI. 9:12 " Then WE are fucking moving!!!" I have always been creeped out with Imaginary Friends shit and I never had one. Nikki ... the reason kids are not believed is because we live in a culture that has DONE AWAY with spiritual realities -as if humans know everything there is to know about the universe.

I know this was years ago, but I only discovered your channel recently and have enjoyed many of your videos and reactions. This is one of my favourite series ever and I love experiencing it again with you guys. Theo is my absolute favourite. Kate Siegel is such a brilliant actress. I'm excited to watch your reactions to Midnight Mass after this. I love that series and I love her in it, too. Many actors from this series were in that one and they're all fantastic.

I love this series and I just found your channel and I am watching this whole playlist right now. I saw that you keep mentioning a question of why the adults keep playing it off like it’s nothing to the kids. This is the show showing us that those events were not experienced by the adults yet. Those scenes in the past when the dad would talk it down to the kids was because he hadn’t yet experienced any hauntings until the big night that everything happened. And I’m sure you saw at the end of the episode, but Theo got a special sense after her hand was touched and she can sense things and she sensed that it was the foster father when she touched her hand in the beginning of the episode. That’s why she went to investigate for herself in their home.

And why she wears gloves or else it is too much for her because she would sense everything around her (ghosts too)

Something to keep in mind when watching: Steve mentions how actually, ghosts are many things. Each of these early episodes has the focus character deal with a form of those "ghosts". Like the little girl's trauma taking the form of Mr. Smiley, or memories of how someone was before, like in the previous episode.
