In a BTS video the writers of better call saul said the line "he was worth 10 of you" resonates deeper with Mike. He feels his son is worth 10 of him. Werner and Matty have similarities in their fate, both are tragic characters who were very good at their jobs. 🧙‍♂️🍨🐔👊

I loved that Mike punched Kai for talking ill of the dead but when the other guy said, "He was worth 50 of you," he just took it! His character is just unbelievable! One of the best characters ever! Period!

Kim isn't as sweet and naive as people think. She is so passionate about helping young people that have broken the law that I believe she was in their shoes when she was young. I think a public defender went the extra mile and helped her turn her life around when she was a teen, and that explains why she cares so much for her clients. She goes WAY beyond what a typical PD would do. That's her motivation. So when Jimmy is trying to get her to work scams with him (Come on Kim, roll around in the dirt with me), he's not luring a naive and impressionable young women into new territory... she knows exactly what she's getting into because she's done this type of stuff before until she got busted for it. This would also explain why she loves it so much and is a natural. I find it interesting that we know absolutely nothing about Kim's past. We know about Jimmy and Mike's past, we've even seen/heard glimpses from Chuck, Howard and Huell about their background, but the writers have purposely left Kim's previous life a big blank spot. I hope we get a Kim-episode much like we got a Mike-episode (S1E6) so we get to know her story.

I think you've hit the nail on the head for one simple reason: it would would finally satisfactorily explain why Kim & Jimmy were ever even a couple to begin with. That's one thing I never quite understood about them: why would Kim, sharp-as-a-tack legal student with her schooling paid for by a major firm where she seems to be on a fast track to a high position & a bright future, have ever been attracted in the first place to a slacker loser like Jimmy MgGill, who only by the sheer good fortune of nepotism happened to find himself in a cushy mailroom job running betting pools than instead of prison? Perhaps because she & Slippin' Jimmy were *always* more like peas in a pod than she ever let anyone, especially Jimmy himself, ever suspect. And when Jimmy first started to make the effort to become a lawyer & actually make something positive out of his life it it just appealed to Kim even more to see him seemingly following her on her journey to redemption. But now it's starting to look like he might end up dragging her down with her, and suddenly this whole thing is starting to look uncomfortably like Jesse & Jane slipping into a toxic spiral of triggering each others' worst impulses.

@@briangonigal3974 I agree. I'd love to know her backstory. I think it could be about a troubled teenager who fell in with the wrong crowd. Maybe she did shoplifting or burglaries, or maybe something even juicier like being the junior (and young, hot) member of a grifting pair with an older guy, doing short and long cons. She easily slipped right into character when she and Jimmy ran their cons, and she obviously enjoyed it so much that a couple times she was so turned-on that they ended up in bed afterwards. I don't think she discovered something new in her when she and Jimmy conned people, I think it rekindled something she'd felt before. It was thrilling. It gave her a rush. If she came from a good family and had a normal background from the Midwest then she would have started working for a local law firm where she would have had the support of her family and friends. But instead, she left town. She left the state. She went hundreds of miles away and started a new life...working in the mail room of a law firm. This show likes to do parallels and callbacks... how cool would it be to see a young Kim getting a lecture/pep talk from a fired-up public defender similar to the speech Jimmy gave "the shoplifter" when she didn't get chosen for the scholarship.

Kim really is good at the cons. She planned their bigger ones! I have the feeling Kim's family was caught up in some kind of grift. Maybe it went south and and she left town. Maybe a family member cheated other family members? Maybe her family was ruined by someone else's scam? Maybe they were just short-sighted short-con jerks without big enough dreams? Or, maybe ... ? I think she's finding banking law boring and without a human element and that's why she's drawn to the criminal work. She can justify it to herself by working pro bono. But, her Mesa Verde/Schweikert-partnership is just too good to give up and go full-time with criminal law. Her practical Midwest background still doesn't want to let the solid job go. I think Kim and Jimmy have similar sense of humor and enjoy similar cultural references and that's what first drew her to him. Saul is less fun -- he's sort of a hybrid of manic Slippin' Jimmy paired with the Jimmy who is always down. A guy who doesn't leave space for anyone else in the room.

My big fear in the Gene timeline is that Jeff the taxi-driver is one of the grifter's related to Kim who somehow found out Saul was in Omaha and has been tracking him down. An ex-husband? Remember that Saul has clients make payments to Ice Station Zebra. That's related to Kim (her dad's favorite movie). Maybe the "ice" was for converting cash into the diamonds Gene has or maybe it's an offshore bank account. Either way, could Jeff get his hands on it and leave both Gene and Kim broke at the end of the story?

One of the nicer easter eggs is that this episode shows that the shoe box he pulled out of the wall during last season's flash forward (for "quite a ride") was his box of childhood photos of him and Chuck. Kind of weird he decided to hide it behind the wall though. I guess you got to hide it somewhere. Also, don't forget that the premiere is a double feature of sorts, that means episode 2 comes out Monday night. Next Sunday is going to be episode 3.

I thought at first that the cabbie ran across Saul by coincidence at the mall, but I think he’d been looking for him there. The mall was where Saul was having the cab take him in order to get his car, but then Saul jumped out and walked the rest of the way. So the cabbie must have concluded that he likely worked there.

What an episode. And another to look forward to today! So much to talk about. The cold open, Jimmy/Kim, Mike's mood in the aftermath of what he did to Werner, FUCKING LALO. Masterful stuff. I can't decide what will happen with Kim this season. It feels like Jimmy/Saul is going to cause her to have a breakdown but that could go either way - it seems to be generally assumed that Kim will eventually be unable to cope emotionally with Jimmy's weakening sense of morality but what if she gets so worn down by him that she goes in the same direction? Maybe the lie at the end is a microcosm of her own development? Torn, heavily conflicted, but reaching a point where she just gives into it.

The “South wall” comment happened just last episode in 4.10. When Lalo called Werner and tricked him into thinking he was one of Gus’ men, Werner told Lalo that his workers need to “finish clearing the debris then begin the South wall”

I'm barely catching up on BCS just finished watching this episode. Maybe this is looking too much into it, but I think I know why they put Kim in so many stairwells. It is a bit of a reach but I think it signifies her wavering morality. Sometimes she goes up, sometimes she goes down. She's always caught in the middle. I think her being on stairwells like back when she was in HHM, or just a few episodes ago when she made out with Jimmy after they saved Huell, is to signify her constanty shifting moral ascension and descension.

Kim is a total hypocrite. Helped Jimmy with the scam, helping Huel, enjoyed it, and even tells Jimmy after it that she wants to do it again. Then in this episode she goes mad at Jimmy for wanting to do a mini scam, to make sure the kid accepted the 5 months.

Episode 2 airs tonight. (Mon 2/ 24/ 20) Trust is the main thing. Some people do get to walk away. Mike may qualify. I admit I was a little surprised by that last interaction between Mike and Gus (also tall guy and Mike). But it shows how hard killing Werner bothered Mike. However for some reason Mike will continue to trust in Gus. That relationship is becoming more and more interesting the deeper we look. I love hating Lalo (ironically, the craziest Salamanca of them all/and the sanest). Wow, you gotta love how clever that is. 🎩🍚🐔👊

The flashforward is really going in an interesting direction. I very much look forward to seeing how Saul's going to deal with it now that he's been made. But things in the past are still pretty interesting too. We know how things ultimately turn out for Mike and Gus but is interesting to see how their war with the Salamanca's turns out. I also can't wait to see exactly what happens to Nacho and Lalo. My prediction is that Mike kills Lalo. Killing Werner is definitely not sitting well with Mike. That's why he was so angry with Kai for agreeing with him and just took the insult from the other guy. Saul Goodman is officially here. That scene in the ten was great. The hustling, the bullshit stories and that ridiculous suit. That was completely Saul. And I totally agree, Kim is not a fan of Saul. She loves Jimmy but she's definitely wondering if this really Jimmy anymore.

Gus is not going to use some kind of threat. He said to Mike when trying to bring Walt in to cook for him, "I don't believe fear to be an effective motivator. I want an investment." In THIS particular situation, Mike is one hell of an investment. He's gonna use honey, and not vinegar.

Gus telling Mike that Werner's wife was "Compensated" in Frankfort is quite scary to contemplate. Then he told Mike to choose his next words carefully, so I think from Gus's perspective Werner's wife was a loose end he could not leave alive. Sad but likely the outcome. I wonder if Mike will look into it, considering how he reacted by telling Gus to keep his retainer, I think he will. It's going to be an interesting season!

Mike is pissed that Gus thinks that Werner's wife could be compensated for the death of her husband. Lalo talked to her, she's alive and Mike knows that.

So happy to see Robert Forster at the beginning, hope he shows up in season six, and yes, it should be a whole season of Saul/Jimmy/Gene's life in present day. Very happy they filmed what they could of Mister Forster before he passed. Fantastic start!

It was fun knowing facts about this show and BB and waiting in anticipation for the reveals but this is even better having everyone waiting for the next magic these writers have up their sleeves. And Tony Dalton is great as Lalo! So many great supporting characters in this tv universe.

Apparently the last episode of this season is called "Wexler vs. Goodman". Kinda not too hard to postulate that they break up after they fight a case against each other (which Jimmy presumably wins by pulling some dodgy strings). This whole season is not boding well for Kim.

I was wondering why they let Gus's workers return to Germany after killing Ziegler, but then I realized, only Ziegler met Gus and knows Gus Frings' name. All the others could do is say they worked for a guy named Mike somewhere in New Mexico. But the guy Mike killed could identify Gustavo Fring.
