17:45 you guys are probably the only reactors who noticed. a lot of people just said he was "chilling". the character drank cheap soju while warming himself in a motel tub and attempted suicide by inducing carbon monoxide poisoning in a hazy state. it is recognized as the cleanest way to commit suicide because there is no pain, and since south korea is a confucian culture, the body can be kept intact without damaging the body. it is a scene in which, at the moment when he decides to commit suicide, he receives a business card and asks himself whether he wants to participate in the squid game again.

In addition to getting more back stories, what I really liked about this episode was that you really get to understand why people would knowingly put themselves through these games. I feel like without this episode placed after the first game, the audience would constantly be wondering why contestants weren't trying to leave/escape. But this episode showed it perfectly. It also keeps the audience off balance and not knowing what to expect from one episode to the next with how different episode two was from episode one.

I find this aspect of the series one of the most compelling. That unlike other media about some sort of death game (running man, hunger games, escape room ect.) the characters in this show had the chance to just walk away. They come back out of desperation but still of their own free will, and they make you believe why each of them would do it. Amazing show.
@17thknight3 жыл бұрын
It makes it much more compelling for me. Even though there's a myriad number of reasons why it is still evil and coercive (which is the point of the show, as a deep anti capitalist dive) the fact is that they were legitimately given an opportunity to leave. And they can stop at any time thereafter. They could've even stopped with a vote mid game. It's so fascinating how many of them running the game have legitimate philosophical reasons for what they do and how they do it.
@user-op6kt8pg9y3 жыл бұрын
@@17thknight to be fair as soon as I watched thus show for the first time is was like if I was £300,000 in debt no life i would you either die with nothing and a massive disadvantage in society or I take 1 last chance to win mega money to help as many people as possible and if I lose I die anyway to me its either die with no chance on the outside or "dissapear" inside with an equal chance
@AnxietyRat3 жыл бұрын
@@user-op6kt8pg9y exactly. It was the illusion of choice. They picked players SPECIFICALLY that are desperate and in deep deep debt. Enough debt that they KNOW they will be killed or seriously hurt in the outside world.... So, of course, most of them choose to come back. It wasn't a real choice. Both options mean death. So they are choosing which method they want to die, basically. Not much free will IMO. Coersion negates consent. Always. 🤷♀️And they are ALL being threatened with a PAINFUL death by the hands of the loan sharks. or the painful(or quick if you are lucky) death of the games.
@iamai_iggs3 жыл бұрын
that's interesting. for me, the voting scene actually drives home the fact that there is no such thing as consent/free-willed choice in a system that forces you to choose between different flavours of misery. it gives an illusion of agency at best, but it dictates all outcomes. or worst, it forces people to take responsibility for what's happening to them because of their own "choice". but if you accept the risk of harm because you already experience other harms, is it really the same kind of choice?
@farlonmuentes60043 жыл бұрын

@@Retrovorious Eh. The choice to work or not is largely an illusion. That's why so many people are trapped in jobs they hate. You can choose not to work, but the consequences for that are quite dire, unless you already have wealth. The show is a big metaphor for that. The poor are forced to fight over scraps and, no matter how hard they try, very few of them actually have the opportunity to lift themselves out of poverty. The game is rigged, but you have to play because the alternative (homelessness, starvation, death) is worse.

(If you consider more Korean films, the Vengeance Trilogy is amazing. My favorite Is "Lady Vengeance," which is also sometimes called "Sympathy for Lady Vengeance.") You should go back and watch the red light, green light game in Korean. Do not even bother with the subtitles since you know what is happening. The reason you should is that the animatronic girl kind of sings her lines and it makes the scene feel even more playful and much more stressful and creepy, especially when she starts to speed up. Trust me. Just watch that scene.

I've watched the entire show twice. Once with subtitles by myself. A second time with my fiancee who prefers dubs. And I'm still watching it with you two because it's SO damn good. Loving your reactions.

Im so sorry you guys got such negative comments on how you chose to watch this show. Im so glad you guys decided to continue it anyway. It makes me so mad people cant just be grateful that you guys are doing this at all. I wish they'd be understanding. Seems so entitled and narrowed minded. People need to get off their high horse and put themselves in other people's shoes. Anyway, im so happy you guys are continuing. I watched the dubbed version because i heard the sub titles were not translated well with this one and never felt like anything was missed and felt the actors facial expressions and everything portrayed all it needed to and i still fell in love with this show. I always enjoy you reactions and just love you guys! Cant wait for more!🙂❤

@@NikkiStevenReact I'm sorry. I wish it didn't. You guys seem like such genuinely nice and good people. Definitely don't deserve that kind of treatment. My mom has dyslexia so she's never liked watching subbed movies or shows. I do usually prefer to watch subbed over dubbed, but honestly can do either. And completely understand how people can feel like which ever is better for them... However, i can't understand being mean to others for not doing it the way they prefer.

I like that you guys did the dub. Makes it easier to watch you guys react when I’m on the go or doing something around the house where I can’t stare at my phone!

In Asian culture, it’s inappropriate to flash large amounts of cash out in the open. So when you hand money over to others, it’s basic manners to have it inside an envelope.

I watched the series twice, once in Korean and the second time in English. I could hardly tell the difference and felt the same emotion. So reacting to dubbed contents is as good as the other way around.

Totally! I didn't think the dubbed version was that terrible.

Just want to jump into the party late to say I appreciate what you do on this channel, I watch for your authentic reactions and your relationship. And you don't owe anyone an explanation for why you're watching the dub, certainly not a justification. Keep doing you, and most of us will be here watching. Can't wait to see your reaction to the rest of the series. Episode 6 will haunt me forever.

I appreciate your comments on the disabled. I'm visually impaired and can't read the subtitles and am finally watching this, thankful that it had a dubbed English version. That was why I avoided it for so long. Because I can't do subtitles very well. You guys are the best! ❤

This show does a great job showing how much poverty cage people completely. Robbing them of options. It’s a real hell.

Think the show is overrated but there are sparks of brilliance. Showing people episode ones deaths and then naming episode 2 "Hell" making people think the following games would be hell but the true hell was their normal lives all along. A goddamn master stroke that was.

I watched it with the English language voice over, aka Dub version, I zone out with subtitles, but the series is really captivating, the actors/actresses are amazing, set layouts are incredible with the color, its soo eye catching and the story, connects with today's society about being in debt and things we would do to get out of it.

Dont care if its dubbed or not, the important thing is to understand the story and see your reactions
