If you can recall the last thing Skyler says to Walt in the pilot: "Walt, I don't like it when you don't talk to me. The worst thing you can do is shut me out." And that's exactly what Walt has been doing up until this episode. Skyler is obviously one of the more moral characters on the show, save for some moments of selfishness under the stress she's been under, but the fact of how absent Walt has been to her throughout the series, I think her affair with Ted was a long time coming. Is it the smartest move on her part? I don't think so. Does it feel right? No. But she feels immense hurt by Walt, so I understand her in this moment. It's easy to feel more for Walt since he's the main protagonist. And still, even if it's through misguided intentions, Skyler having an affair in no way compares to cooking meth and killing people. You can say it's all for the family, but keep in mind, Gretchen and Elliot offered to pay for Walt's treatment (and then some) for the work at Gray Matter that he's rightfully earned. If family was Walt's main concern, he would have swallowed his pride rather than employ himself in a dangerous criminal underworld. Man, I love how much this show makes you think.

She knows her husband pretty well and to think that he did that to get money for ALL main outgoings they will get in live is something honorable specially when he was about to die. and what she does? tells the lawyer, and fucks her boss just to "piss him off

I may not love Skyler as a character, but never, not for one moment have I felt the hate for her that so many people did. Yes, what we see from her in this episode is not taking the high road. Far from it. But let's not forget, good intentions or not, Walt is a criminal and a murderer. I actually thought it was pretty damn generous of Skyler to promise her silence on the condition of a divorce. And now, she effectively feels like a hostage in her own home because of yet another piece of generosity: protecting her son from the truth, which of course tragically fuels more of Walt Jr.'s own resentment towards her. Awful situation all around.

The people who outright hate Skyler are people who have a serious inability to emphasize with other peoples' situation, can only understand things in terms of simplistic Disney-esque _good vs evil_ and hate Skyler simply because she is at odds with the person the show presents as the protagonist. It's the same deal with people who hate Hank and people who hate Chuck in BCS. I saw an interview with Vince Gilligan himself (who was very much sympathetic to Skyler) where he, on the topic of why so many fans hated Skyler, discussed Skyler's behavior. He described her as being completely powerless, since her desire to protect her children prevented her from doing anything against Walt. A fact Walt exploited. She was in a helpless situation and the only thing she could think of to stand up for herself was to insult Walt by cheating on him. It had nothing to do with trying to get Walt to want a divorce. It's kinda sad how Gilligan's whole premise for the show, which was to see a protagonist turn into the villain, is completely lost on many of the show's fans. The fact that so many people still root for Heisenberg by the second half of season 5 is almost a little scary.

2:53 Ouija is actually a board game sold by Hasbro, with the name being trademarked in the late 19th century. It was used for party games for many years, with the instructions stating that players are contacting their "inner selves" and it wasn't associated with ghosts and the supernatural until it appeared in the 1970s movie The Exorcist. So it's not that unlikely that one of the former residents would have brought it with them to play at the retirement home.

👨👨📱💰🍕 Nice Chewie mask Steven. :) Skyler cheated on Walt in a legal sense, but as far as she's concerned, the relationship is over (she kicked him out, and he came back). Walt won't agree to the divorce, and she's not willing to rat him out for Walt Jr.'s sake, so she had spite sex to attempt to push Walt into wanting a divorce. No bluff this time. She's losing it obviously. "I fucked Ted" is one of my favorite lines of the whole series.

I've found that a not small portion of the people who watch BrBa, get down on Skylar for the choices that she makes and while I don't think she is angel by any means, I think the hatred and the almost equating of her sins to Walts to be disproportionate in the extreme. She is trying to protect her children from a meth manufacturer, and I'm not convinced it should matter that it happens to be her husband and the kids father. Walter White is selfish! The anti-hero to beat all others, for sure but I have never felt sympathy or empathy towards him. Walt is the bad guy in this play, no ifs ands or buts. And I love him for it, I do. But I feel like Skylar deserves to be treated a little better. Oh, and this was not a dig at you guys... just an observation I wanted to share and it works for this particular episode 😊

"That door won't close because Walt won't let it" Walt poured his heart out about all the illegal things he did. That wasn't heart warming. She made it known she wasn't okay with him being a criminal. She took care of him after his surgery for weeks even though she knew he was a pathological liar. She waited until he was well enough to be on his own to leave him. She refuses to let her son think ill of his father and is taking all the blame from him for the separation. When there were literally axe murders in the house last episode because of Walt. She was trying to divorce him and he was forcing himself back into her life. They would be separated if Walt would grant her the divorce. The only reason it's considered cheating is because Walt won't let her out of the marriage. I really don't blame Skyler at all. She was pushed to her limit by Walt. Walt thought he could just forcibly move back in, show her a bag of money, and everything would be okay. I'd snap too if I were her.

I see what you’re saying but I think the show runners wrote this show with the intent of making skylar unlikable. They could have written it in a way where she stopped paying the house bills, saved her money and found a 2 bedroom apartment for her and kids in order to be away from him. They didn’t write it that way though; instead they wrote her doing something deliberately only to hurt Walt in the most emotionally devastating way possible without solving any of the problems she professes to care about. They wrote her to be a vengeful not sympathetic...to me at least.

Skylar can force divorce. It only takes one person to push it. She can get the house. Get a court order through legal separation, to have Walt removed. She chose not to do that. That is on her. The moment she did not proceed with the separation, she obligated herself in the marriage. She cheated. Her intention was to hurt Walt. Walt never intended to hurt any of them. She is completely in the wrong. She is accountable for her choices. Period. She is even using Ted. How whesome is that?

He also nearly raped her early on. He’s being a controlling, manipulative predator. It feels so oppressive to me when I watch the show from her POV. She is feeling like he’s taken away any power she had within their life & their marriage, so she exerts the bit she has, over her own body, to show him a piece of the hurt he’s caused her. We don't see anyone else's backstory or get inside their heads, especially the many dead bodies laying in the path for that "dirty" money that Skyler doesn't want on her conscious or to be tied to. She didn't ask for any of this so why should she just accept it because *he* made a choice for her and the family. Is that okay? This show does a very good job of allowing us to think and see different point of views, if we want to. There are reasons to be pissed at everyone, not just one character because they are not our favorite and still alive. *Cheers*

Put yourself in Skylar’s shoes. No matter why Walt has done what he’s done, he betrayed her. He’s not the man he was. Now, she’s betrayed him, but she has been devastated by all of this and she’s afraid and she feels backed in the corner. Judging her isn’t fair when you think about AAAALL of Walt’s transgressions. Has she killed someone? Has she put crystal meth on the streets? No, it’s all her HUSBAND’s doings. I really see Skylar as a victim here. Maybe she hasn’t made the best decision by having an affair but she’s hardly the bad guy here.

Skylar needed a win over Walt. He humiliated her the entire episode, the police scene for example is pure mental torture for her. She needed to give him something back to throw his smug demeanour off. Walt's awful awful decisions and terrible attitude aren't excused because he claims it's all for the family. He has a way of rationalising all his awful decisions, like in the season opening where he downplays the terrible effects of the plane crash because he doesn't want to admit it's as bad as it is. Skylar's under immense stress, and her husband is not the same man she married. As much as he claims to have the family's best interests in mind, Skylar IS his family, and he's still tormenting her for his own ego and pride. I think a lot of Walt's character boils down to him needing control, and he's very controlling over Skylar, making her feel powerless - so I think she just needed to get some control back in her life. I'm not saying she's perfect, in a way she is quite similar to Walt because of this, since she's fighting fire with fire. Their relationship can be seen as a series of attempts to try and get control over the other one. I'm just trying to explain a bit of her motivations :) love the reactions

Walter has changed/done so much from Season 1 and now because his actions have personal consequences he wants to suddenly go back to the doting father and husband? Its terrible. Skylar has been there the whole time, pregnant and scared with a husband with cancer, with money troubles, with a disabled teenage son... like c’mon she is by no means perfect but don’t let your walter shades blind you.

Walt is a POS but to be clear Skylar chose one criminal over another in this episode considering what Ted is doing at this point. From the start she manipulated Walt into doing the chemotherapy despite his choice to want to die. She made Walt have to revisit the old wounds with his former friends that became rich off his work that made him the miserable pathetic guy he was. She was already flirting with Ted before deciding that she had had enough of Walt. Then there's just tormenting her children, not allowing her crippled son to see his dad and smoking with and around her newborn child. She deserves being disliked!

The only bad in that situation is that she'd be liable if things were uncovered, that situation is no where near comparable to Walt's unless you see all crime as equal. The situation with her convincing Walt wasn't manipulation also, nor from hey perspective was it a horrible thing, since without Walt they'd lose their home, shed lose her husband and get children would lose their father and they'd be out of luck financially since she couldn't support all the if them, Walt mentions this same thing in this episode, do of course she wouldn't be okay with hey husband dropping dead within a few months time... She also had no clue about Walt's 'old wounds' with his friends, that from the sound of it, HE caused by walking out on Grech. Not to mention that revisiting old wounds and facing his proud is a lot more preferable to him getting into drug dealing, ruining hundreds of people's lives, murdering people, leaving his wife and child to wonder where TF he was for MONTHS and inviting dangerous people into his life that could harm him and his family. Protecting his proud is top priority in your mind though, right? While also believing she shouldn't care about her own. She was flirting with Ted when she believed Walt was cheating on her with Grech. Flynn also wouldn't be mad at his mother or want to see his dad if he found out he was a drugging dealing, manipulative and egotistical murderer. He wouldn't be able to see his children at all if he were in jail, but she's willing to put up with the disrespect from her child she's taking care of and her family so Walt doesn't end up in prison and so her children don't hate they're father and know he's a horrible man. Okay the first time I watched Breaking Bad, I HATED Skylar. This time.... I think I understand her a bit more. She fucked Ted in order to feel like she had ANY control or power over her own life. AND she got to hurt Walter, which she really wanted to do for how badly he's hurt her and trashed their marriage. She wanted to stop being the victim and start being in control of something. AND she got laid. AND she is testing her own ability to be "bad" (break bad?) because on some level, she realizes that if she is going to live with Walt, she'll have to come down to his level in some ways. Otherwise she is just the victim who is trapped. Walt kind of deserved it. But as Steven points out, this is unlikely to help the situation in the long run.

She spent the entire season plus upset because of Walter and lost the only bit of power she had in setting boundaries when Walter forced himself back into the home. It didn't matter what excuse Walter had planned, full of repressed rage, Skylar decided to get some power back in the relationship and she took the most savage action she could think of that could one up Walter in world-altering secrets. Alright, her husband didn't STEAL the money....but he's "earning" via a highly illegal activity that she's powerless to get him to stop, clearly; she has no legal ability to even have him removed from the home; she doesn't want their son to find out because it would wreck him. She has so little power over anything that's happening to her. Sleeping with Ted was something she could do and know that it would hurt the man who's controlling her life. The philosophical question underlying the show that applies to all decisions in life, "Does the ends justify the means"? And also, "Is collateral damage an excusable byproduct for an end even if that damage is casualties and victims"? And one more that extends from that: the argument of "The good of the many" as the end? How can we be certain that "the many" will truly benefit? And how do we know that they deserve it if they did not earn it at other peoples' expense where innocent victims will be part of the collateral damage? Why not use critical thinking to come up with a better solution rather than arrogantly think one has all of the right answers?

Hey guys, this is the first time I have to disagree with you. The time has long passed when Walt could justify his wrong decisions with good intentions, since Jane died actually. His family and cancer are understandable reasons why he started all of this, but that doesn't give him the right to destroy other people lives. When comparing Walt's and Skyler's sins, I can't see why it is ok for him to do the wrong things, but not for her. Don't get me wrong, cheating on your husband, not ok, but I can understand why she did it. Walt's problem is that he doesn't see himself as a criminal, just as a hard working family man, when in reality, he is both. His selfworth makes him think he is more deserving of a normal happy life than these real criminals like Jessie. He brought this dangerous world into their family and he won't give her divorce. So many women would be so pissed in her situation and they would tell kids everything and that would drag them in the middle of divorce. But not Skyler, she still puts her son first , and that's a big sacrifice on her part, letting your son think you're a bitch for leaving your husband. Walt made her feel powerless and angry, and all she wanted is to hurt him. What's so unique about this show, is that the main character is a villan. I don't think I've ever seen a show where the lead has so many negative characteristics and at this point of the show I didn't root for Walt at all. Even Dexter had more morals than Walt, lol. She doesn't even LIE to him like he did to her, she does it to make him leave and stop endangering his family. I'm on Team Skylar - intentions be damned, she never did anything one tenth as bad for the family he did.

She's all up in his ass before there's really any reason to be. Snoopy Skylar. I mean, fucking someone else for the sole purpose to get back at someone..... lol That's dumb. How are the courts going to look at that? :P Making idle threats to boot. Lay it out if you want...but she flinched there, no college for her children. No house. No cars. All that shit would get seized. If she has any proof, beyond Walt's word. If she does spill the beans, which may or may not happen, pretty sure Hank might be all over it. (worded in a way to try to keep it less spoilery)

The body count is literally mounting, Skyler asked for a divorce and continued to protect Walt for the sake of her family and yet she's some how still the bad guy.

I sympathize with Walt because of how beautifully written his character is. I don’t sympathize with Skyler as much because of how she’s written in such a negative light. She was a good wife and mother but she was very restrictive towards Walt. To me, she actually seemed to hold Walt back. This show is great at showing a man dealing with uncapped potential and trying to finally reach it. It is wrong and selfish, but I can’t help but sympathize with him in his journey. The writing is too good, and skyler keeps trying to keep control. But this isn’t the person she married anymore, there is no holding him back.

“Holding Walt back” a lot of others felt this way, but whereas for us this is a show, and we want to see Walter achieve criminal greatness, it’s her real life, where her husband is a murderer meth drug lord who constantly endangers their family for his own selfish reasons. You sympathize with him because he is the protagonist, but when you stop seeing Skyler as an obstacle in Walt’s way and instead as a person, you’ll probably sympathize with her. A lot of people seem just to want Skyler to just be completely submissive and okay with Walt’s criminal life.

The mental torture of not being able to tell even the police and the way Walt just came back saying I have right and she couldn’t do anything about it , She need to vent out to feel better and this was her way to Take control and make Walt feel like shiiit , It’s a tough to swallow and Messed up situation but it is what it is !!

Skyler wanted to hurt Walt, that's why she decided to cheat on him. Women do tend to be more passive aggressive about how they decide to hurt someone else. Rather than directly going against the guy they will damage the guy's car or property or even cheat on them like Skyler did. Maybe it's with a stranger but it could also be with a friend of his. Whatever is available that will cause him more pain.

I don't blame Skylar. She feels trapped & has no control over anything in her life except at work, so sleeping with her boss is the only way she can really show protest & hurt Walt. Also I feel like Walt's ego hasn't only put his wife in an extremely stressful situation but he's pretty much stopped being an active father to Flynn...and put all his affection & energy into Jesse.

I find it kinda fascinating that you think of Walt like he's some sort of saint... I mean, Jesse is very vanilla compared to him at this point but you sometimes talk about him like he's the worst criminal ever. Another thing: you want Skyler to let Walt be a father to his kids but would you really want a lying, meth-creating murderer with dangerous people around him take care of your kids? I don't even want kids and I know that would be a bad idea. (I love your reactions so please don't read this as hate, I just wanted to share my observations and thoughts.)

I disagree heavily with your statement considering that Walter did everything that he did for his family. His daughter, his son, and his wife. He wanted them to have a good life after he passed which is what led him to cooking meth. Yes, in the process he did things that weren’t acceptable, although I don’t feel that takes away anything from him as a father. Let alone justifying his wife to go and have an affair. It honestly deeply upset me when she went and had sex with Ted because all Walter had was good intentions for his family and did everything out of love.

@@unfortunate27 walt had plenty of chances to get out of the drug game after he had already made enough money, and if he really put his family first he would have taken those chances. He keeps coming back and pushing it further and further because he likes doing it. He literally says this in the last episode. "I'm doing this for my family" was the excuse he gave himself so that he could justify his actions before he was able to throw his morals away. From the start Walt was someone who felt stepped on and taken advantage of; denied his rightful place as a genius chemist. The cancer diagnosis was the kick in the ass that set him on his power trip.

@@unfortunate27 Walt was offered an incredible job with great benefits. He instead decided to continue putting his family in danger by taking part in illegal drug trade. He knows how dangerous it is; he was almost killed in the first episode. His ego is too big for him to accept help. Skyler slept with Ted after asking Walt for a divorce multiple times and making it clear she wants to be separated from him. She can't tell the courts why she really wants a divorce, her house could be taken. So she's trying to get him to agree to one without drawing too much attention to their finances.
