I think as for Hank "not getting out of there," part of it was that he knew that if people really were trying to kill him, it's not like driving away or going home was going to be a better situation. If they were coming for him, they were going to get to him, either now or later. And I think he decided to stay calm and pay attention to what was happening instead of freaking out and possibly having them find his home/wife.
@ghenry4513
@ghenry4513 5 жыл бұрын
Yeah, that's true. They would have got him on his way out of the parking lot. Best he could have done was speed through them and hope not to get hit. And also, he was aware that if he is backing out of the parking space, that would be a vulnerable position, too, since he didn't know where they were coming from. If they were in a car, they could have boxed him in. He really had nowhere ideal to go.

@@hunterlee3353 He had a whole minute. That's enough time to think it through. It took me like 15 seconds and I'm certainly not a trained DEA agent, who would have a lot more sense about these kinds of things than I would. At the very least, I would think he would know to watch his surroundings before making any decisions.

OK but you could get out of there and alert the authorities and have people watching you/your family and far more backup if you're gonna take someone out. Getting out of there at that time was probably the better option

This show is a masterclass in both writing & direction. It's a lesson to American action directors, straight out of the Hong Kong actioners, that if you're good at your job you can make a 10-second, 10-bullet shootout feel "bigger" and more explosive than a giant blockbuster action-movie sequence with 5,000 bullets and a ton of explosions. This show makes every bullet count.

Screw that! Walt is the man! He doesn’t have to rationalize shit! It’s like Gale said, consenting adults want a product that Walt can provide and if they don’t get it from him they’ll get it from somewhere else. I don’t feel the least bit bad about Jane; she made her bed. The only “innocent” people who’ve been hurt by Walt were the passengers on the planes (and even that wasn’t totally Walt’s fault since she was a junkie and it was only a matter of time before she real-see, even had Walt never been in the picture).

Hank may have froze in the parking lot, but in the end he managed to come through and take out the Twins. This is actually a pattern with Hank: He's unprepared when he finds himself face to face with Tuco and lets Tuco get the drop on him with a frickin' assault rifle, but then he gets himself behind cover and when the opportunity presents itself, he takes him out like a pro. He freaks out & runs off at the sight of the turtle-delivered cranium (thus saving his own life through sheer dumb luck), but immediately after the explosion while still pissing his pants in sheer panic he starts delivering first aid, applying a tourniquet to that DEA agent's stump & probably saving his life. It's a contradictory thing of freezing at a critical moment, but then showing how he's got the skills & instincts to overcome & get the job done so that your respect for him actually increases with each "failure".

Podcast Notes Guests: Episode Writer Tom Schnauz; Director Michelle MacLaren; Dean Norris [Hank] 1. Michelle showed the 2 boys the Cousins to help psych them up to play them, thinking it’d help to see how cool they are, but the kids were like “aw man, they’re _bald?_ So they showed them the scene of them walking away from the explosion & then the kids got excited 2. Dean accidentally caught the stunt guy in the tooth in the scene when he was beating up Jesse, and he felt so bad. When Aaron subbed in for his coverage, Dean said “don’t worry, I almost never make this mistake twice in a row” 😁 3. “In a show called Breaking Bad, Hank’s the only one who wants a clean soul at the end of the day.” They like turning the dirty cop trope on its head by having Hank be the most ethical person in the show. 4. Dean had a hard time not crying when he said to Marie “I’m not the man I thought I was.” Michelle asked him not to cry as it’s more heartbreaking if he’s about to cry but doesn’t cry. 5. I don’t know for certain, but I would guess it’s because there’s so much money in film, and the emphasis is on getting things that look incredible on screen, no matter how long it takes. Plus, with the extra time, they can get additional takes & more angles, so the editors have more to work with. On tv, they end up cutting more complex things on set in order to get things done in time. They’re just 2 different philosophies.

Love that Hank vs the Twins scene. One of the rare out and out action scenes in the show, but they're so good when they do them. The stark sound design with no music makes it so raw and intense, the cinematography is great (one of my favourite shots of the whole show when we follow the gun by the twin's side as he walks), and it's such a great character defining scene for Hank. He may get overwhelmed in intense situations sometimes, but he can also be hella capable when he really needs to be. And damn, does he nail those head shots!

The worse things get for him, the more important it is for him to get that. It's why he wanted to go out on his own after Walt split from him. Boy, I've been waiting for this episode. The last few minutes of this episode is one of the most intense experiences on TV I've ever seen. This was beautiful and horrifying. *boxing glove, hospital, gun* When Jesse rages against Walt, then changes his mind & takes him up on his offer, it reminds me of Rocky, when Rocky rages against Mick, then runs out after him to accept Mick's offer to manage him. Rocky realized how much he needed Mick. Not sure if the scenes mean the same thing, but I'd like to think it does. Also...I didn't realize how much I cared about Hank until this episode. It totally freaked me out when the twins appeared through the windows of the cars. lol Good stuff you guys! :-) ♡ *Edited* Not sure if your birthday is today or tomorrow, but since I'm pretty sure you won't drop a video tomorrow, I'll say today "Happy Birthday, Nikki!" & Happy Chinese New Year (a pretty big thing in HI). ☆☆

Indeed, Vince Gilligan's whole premise for the show was to see a protagonist turn into the villain over the course of the series. Unfortunately, that seems to be completely lost on a big portion of the fanbase. Many people keep rooting for Walt simply because the show presents him as the main character. Seriously, anyone who still roots for Walt in the second half of season 5 must be a bit of a psychopath.

The scene with Hank and the twins is one of my favourite scenes in the series. I know this is an old video but I’m pretty sure Walt not only needed Jesse back to cover his own ass, but he also likely realized that Gale was more than capable of replicating his recipe after just a few batches and that meant that Walt would sooner or later be disposed of by Gus. This whole time we’ve been lead to believe, just as Walt believed, that Walt is the only one capable of cooking this miracle blue meth.. until Jesse replicates it. Suddenly, Walt isn’t so special anymore. If Jesse can replicate the product, why wouldn’t Gale be able to? He’s clearly extremely intelligent and well versed in the world of chemistry, has an excellent memory and is already doing things in the lab without Walt. Gus didn’t just hire Gale to be an assistant, he had every intention of having Walt essentially teach Gale, then get rid of Walt and rely solely on Gale who is much more to his taste and reliable. Walt eventually sees this and so creates an excuse to get rid of Gale first. Bringing Jesse back was the result of 1. Preventing Jesse from pressing charges against Hank and threatening to expose Heisenburg, and 2. Replacing Gale with someone who he trust not to stab him in the back and who Gus would never in a million years choose over Walt, securing his position working for Gus (at least for a little longer)

This was one of my favorite BB episodes.. my reaction was the same as y’all’s... mouth open, dumbfounded as shit. the horror and build up of that last scene was so good.. love how the producers don’t use music fillers in scenes like that.. just the raw emotions and the sounds of the actual atmosphere around... tires screeching, car alarm blaring, people screaming, no stupid slow motion cliches. My understanding of why Hank just sat in the car waiting is because he knew that if the guy on the phone was telling the truth, leaving right then wouldn't get rid of the assassin's they'd just find him again, and that time he'd have no warning.
