Fast forward to today, and my favorite bands are Opeth, Gojira, and Mastodon. "Favorite" genre is death metal (more prog/tech side) and have started getting into black metal a little bit (Ihsahn rules!). I have my uncle to thank for the death/black metal thing. Grunge kid to semi-core kid/thrash kid, to any metal teen to any metal, but death leaning adult. I respect starting with the new stuff, but please listen to the Warufuzake album. This is the closest you can get to grabbing some more purist metalheads. It's also kind of a forgotten album.

2:05 To be fair I was on the Linkin Park Underground around the Minutes to Midnight era and there were a few people in the chatrooms back there which were scene kids.

As a gen z, I love nu metal & these songs are honestly so easily recognizable 😭 my parents grew up with these as well.

3:01 That's Noah Grossman from Smosh. He's 27 years old and was born in 1997, so he's on the edge of being a millenial.

i was born in 2003 and i knew most of these songs. my favorite nu-metal bands are tool, deftones, slipknot, and system of a down

Tbh, I expected worse. New generations use new forms of media, which is completely fine! At least they get in touch with the music we love!

as an older gen z, i grew up around this stuff. when i was a kid literally any music i heard before 2010 was either rap or nu metal. i remember being like 7 and seeing the teenagers that listened to that typa music and i always thought they were the coolest people in the world. nu metal is sick asf

As a gen z I do not apologize, they did pretty good on knowing it nu metal things considered, but as a proggy boi I've accepted a band like periphery will never get widespread appreciation. Can we talk about how crazy it is that system of a down got as hugely popular as they did as a political alt-metal band though?
