Imagine you are a serbian immigrant in Paris. You are honouring your culture by running a traditional serbian pub. Then one day you see a bus pull up. A dozen huge serbs emerge, led by the NBA MVP himself, who you just saw on TV winning bronze. They scream excited and run into your pub, asking: "How much beer do you have?"

That's a nostalgic song for all economic emigrants from most of countries from former Yugoslavia expressing how they miss they country and their families (in the past normally men/fathers used to go overseas to earn money while women/mothers stayed at home looking after children). Especially that was prevalent in Germany where "gastarbeiters" or immigrants came from former Yugoslavia. "America" in that sense represents all Western countries where former Yugoslavs used to go to earn some money and then better off their family life (in the past 80% of emigrants came back to their country after retirement).

His translation of the song is tragic xD Correct translation is "America be damned and gold that shines".. As in, that song is about son who is witnessing sorrow of his sisters and old mother because his father is absent as he is working abroad (america) to provide for his family. Photo of his father is becoming more and more pale as time goes on so he misses him. That's why he is saying America be damned and gold that shines, as in, come back home, family is more important than riches :)

Worth to mention that the song they were singing about the coach - „Keri’s on fire, your defence is terrified” was inspired by a football chant created by Fulham (English Premier League) fans that was also about Serbian forward - Alexandar Mitrović. „Mitro’s on fire, your defence is terrified”. Of course both chants are based on a song that was played multiple times during olympics.
@Knjaz_Zlogrd3 ай бұрын
Actually, I'm pretty sure it's Newcastle fans who came up with the chant 'Mitros on fire'. But fans of Fulham continued chanting the song after Mitrović went over there to play.
