I notice he is improving his shooting arc. He also plays well off ball, using the entire court.

Swear to God the folks spamming negative comments could not possibly have watched the full video and analysis. They just rushed to smear a pick they've rejected early in the draft process. A breakdown like this one should give pause and force people to rethink their stance. That's not what happened here though. Folks doubled down. The hardest skill to measure/quantify is court vision. Here we saw how 1 assist is not at all representative of his quick decision-making. His natural ability to see the court will slow down the game despite the higher level of play and greater athleticism. Guys like Topic get better.

Will he work in SA -- that's why I'm here. He feels like a Spurs pick but damn do they need shooting and you know Pop wants a guy who can play defense. Is he a better bet than Rob Dillingham for what they need or Stephon Castle (who also can't shoot) but can provide the defense? Are we sure Topic is actually 6'6? He looks like he's really 6'5 and plays like he's 6'2, groundbound and below-the-rim.

Im a Spurs fan and I would take him in a heartbeat provided that Risacher and Sarr is already taken. He looks legit 6’6” and he is average at defense. He will not be scoring much. He will be a Rondo type player for us. He will complement the existing roster and honestly the best fit for us in this year’s draft.
@jpsatre6 ай бұрын
also he is 18. Pop can mold and add skills that will make him even more effective as a playmaker.
@dillamadukes216 ай бұрын
He's the rorschach test of the draft. Armchair scouts and some "journalists" project whatever qualities they prize in a pg onto him and never discuss the glaring holes in his overall package. Poor shooting. Non existent shot creation. Mediocre athlete by NBA standards. Average ball handle. Poor defence. Durability questions (getting injured and missing as much time as he has @ 18 is never a good sign). He play's like he's 6'2 because his long neck and giant head give him attractive measurements on paper. I also doubt he has a 7 foot wingspan like so many claim. We'll see at the combine. In a deeper, more sane draft season; he wouldn't even be a lottery pick. Spurs need shooting, floor spacing, shot creation, and a guy that can get everyone involved in the offence (not just pick and roll with Victor, that isn't winning basketball). As a Spurs fan that's been following the draft, it's been confounding to see so many that want another guard with questionable shooting from the perimeter in our line up. We've already seen guys like him who had even greater upside at the same position (Lonzo Ball, Ben Simmonds) who struggled to shoot and create from the perimeter and how their careers panned out. Why the Spurs need to repeat the same mistake with their LOTTERY PICK is beyond me. And no, both Kentucky guards or Stephon Castle would be more valuable in my opinion for various reasons related to team fit. There are other guards projected later in the draft like Jared McCain (the kid from duke) and Juan Nunez in the second round that would also be better fits for our needs. Or a veteran guard in free agency.

all of them are poor athletes if you are so picky about it. and 6'6" guy can be taught how to play big while 6'1 players cant magically grow to 6'6". so all your arguments are garbage. @@dillamadukes21

also surreal to see him catching a pass from Teodosic at 16:59 for a layup. He wears 44 because of Teodosic and he models his game after the Serbian legend. I hope he's learning a lot from playing with his idol.

His ability to read defences and make the right pass is mature for his age. "Absolutely nuts" is strong for a basic play every pro calibre point guard makes on a nightly basis. I've never seen the sort of hyperbole around a player who will in all likelihood be a middling talent in the league.

Really like what I’m seeing from him as far as passing vision, patience, reading defenses. Outstanding for a guy his age. But his frame looks too narrow and light for high level nba ball. His shooting form is alright, but he’s got a slightly slow release and also not enough arc on the shot. Appreciate the video!

Reed Sheppard or Stephon Castle. I want nothing to do with Topic. In comparison Sheppard is miles ahead when it comes to shooting and is already a better defender than Topic. Castle is not as good a passer or have his good passing IQ as Topic, but he can pass and is miles ahead when it comes to defense, speed and athleticism. Plus Castle can guard 1-3

I understand he has great upside as a passer, but Trae jones isn’t that bad of a passer, I see either rob or castle as a better fit. Yeah topic can pass the ball but he cannot shoot and can’t play defense, we Alr have that in jones. Dillingham has improved in his passing and has room to grow as a passer. Can create his own shot but lacks defense. castle is similar to topic but can make an impact on the defensive end.
@conradk6 ай бұрын
Trae should be congratulated on his improvement in all areas this past year. Both Rob and Nicola are weak on defense. Tony was very similar in his first years, in that he did not have an outside shot and was weak on defense. I think all available players this draft have big weaknesses that will have be addressed. Unless we're one of the top two picks, we're not getting an all-star this round.

@@smelltheglove1726 Definitely a serious concern when you're 18 playing against relatively low level competition and you're already getting injured and missing serious time. So much of his ability to create in the Adriatic league came from him being the best athlete on the court. A lower extremity injury like this one would kneecap (no pun intended) his primary means of putting pressure on opponents and creating looks for team mates.
