Erstaunlich und beeindruckend, wie stilgerecht der erst 22-jährige Russe dieses "klassische" Glanz- und Renommierstück der Klavierliteratur päsentiert: nicht als Selbstbekenntnis des deutschen Romantikers Schumann sondern, trotz allen Einsatzes, immer im beherrschten Rahmen der Themenvorgabe der einzelnen Stücke - eben als "Etüden".

I've just finished the Ashkenazi recording.....this is much, much finer. More cantabile, more swaying rhythm. Thanks to Enchanted Wanderer for this great pleasure.

Ces études Symp sont troublantes et Lugansky n´y est pas insensible....L´émotion nous vient avec le souffle en l´air... Compliments Lugansky.

interesting that Lugansky performs 4 of the 5 posthumous Etudes, and out of order. Great performance overall.

I don´t really know whether Gilels played or Lugansky does play this sonata with more genius...
