Gia was the only woman who wasn't already a family member who thought that it was okay for Nikolas to be a Cassadine and I think that this scene reinforced that he missed having parents and that he had a lonely childhood. I think that Gia would have encouraged Nikolas to be a hands on parent and reminded him that he can give a child a happy childhood that he didn't have.

" Let me fight for you like you fight for everyone else" Gia was always so overprotective of Nikolas and this is the reason why (besides being in love with him). He had such a sad and lonely childhood, and he was always trying to make up for the fact that he was rich and his family was crazy. Trying to prove he was a good guy, so he would let his family and friends use him. And he didn't really think he had a right to his feelings when he was hurt by someone.
