Wel you only have to look at the price to see why. Yes 15fps is a bit yanky. And it won't make it into proffesional grade use. But lets be fair it is a J5. To get good quality 4K video you have to pay about twice as much. So it might be a gimmick but seen the price of the camera it is as expected. It functions, maybe not to the wish of everybody. But it functions.

Not possible on all modes if I'm right. So, not Always possible. But it IS useless to focus before. Before wherever you touch the screen it focus and shoots faster than the blink of your eye. And the job is done. Very well done.

4K, but only at 15fps? And no viewfinder. Well, at least they've thrown in a couple of party tricks for those who want an even smaller *interchangeable lens camera* than the original Sony RX100, with the same size sensor for around 500 bucks (U.S.) with it's lowest priced kit lens.

Very good experience on belt. For pocket it's a bit complicated, while not totally impossible according to what you're wearing.

+Rabbi Bienes Well, according to Amazon's sales figures, currently (as of 1/28/2016), almost a full two years from the date of its announcement (not necessarily the same as any official first on sale dates for various countries) the a6000 is STILL the #1 selling mirrorless interchangeable lens camera on their site. As of the same date noted above, the Nikon One J5 which is a year newer, ranks #82 in sales. The J5 has a touchscreen, the a6000 doesn't. The J5 has a faster maximum shutter speed. The a6000 has a viewfinder, the J5 doesn't. The a6000 will support 24p shooting for a more "movie-like" feel, the J5 won't, if that's an option in video shooting that interests you. The a6000 will support an external microphone through the hotshoe, the J5 has neither a hotshoe (which means you can't attach an external flash to it), nor an external mic jack. The a6000 with it's much bigger sensor has better resolution, dynamic range, better color depth, and better image quality. The a6000 has a much larger selection of native lenses available for it. The a6000 has much better battery life.

I am sure you're still in the market.😂 The a6000 kit lens was garbage. Colors and Metering were sad in this Sony era. Sony sensors had basically single gain mode. It was until Sony bought the sensor tech from Aptina that things improved. Aptina made sensors for the Nikon 1 series. Nikon 1 nailed metering and focus, and the dual gain helped, which made it easy for post processing, even if you didn't quite get the better image quality of bigger sensors.

+νικος γιώργος the buffer sucks, i wouldnt shoot the whole 20frames at one time, because it might take a minute until you could shoot again. hence, im using the fastest micro sd out there

Buffer is bad. I mean it is NORMAL. identical to DSLR. The problem is, it should be better because it shoots much much much more images. So a normal buffer is STUPID ! I sometimes wonder why they deliberately made bad and weird choices on the J5...

help help help!!! going insane looking for a decent camera with everything on it yes the 100% camera lol. I thought I found it in the j5 but the 4k is getting shredded on here ha. here we go I would like a compact with flip screen, 1080p hd, (super) slow motion, image stabilisation, auto focus, good in low light, wifi-nfc, ideally want to take great quality clear pics and vids. please any suggestions would great. I would spend up to £500 if it gets me the perfect camera if that's possible. also will be using to vlog....thanks

+Paul The camera you want is not available @ £500 Sony Cyber-shot RX100 IV does the job, but at double the price. Maybye check out the Panasonic G7 Awsome 4k, touch screen, good stabilized kit lens. Good autofocus. All in all, the best deal out there if you want a 4k camera at a reasonable prize. I'm getting one soon, just have to live with it not being as compact as I wanted.

+Paul Have you looked at the Panasonic FZ1000 bridge camera; 4K video, 1 inch sensor (same as the Nikon here), fully articulating screen, 24-400 f2.8-4 leica lens, fast AF, clear EVF and full manual controls and creative scene modes. Worth a look.

Yeah that lens makes it look pretty ugly. I don't like the little telescoping snout lenses on other small cameras either. :)

Nick Dsnik I guess Nikon wanted "just the right look" to "properly" set off their "you'll try it out just once (and never use it again), *BRAND NEW 4K FEATURE!* (that only works at *15 fps*). I totally agree with you.

My experience with Nikons has been really BAD Focus mechanism...... End if the day... A sharp focus make a huge difference..... Check out Sony A6000.... It has a brilliant focus...

Good alternative, true. Excpet it takes a serious long time to switch on and off. I was about to buy the Sony but the slugginess was so disgusting I said "no thanks, it IS too slow..." I was very very sad because I do prefer Sony as their companion app on smartphone is very nice and the A6000 had better grip, design and menu. What a pity. With Nikon 1 J5 I can shoot in less than 2 seconds (taking it, switching on, pointing and shooting) about 2/3 secondes for the "Alpha"...

Zoom became non-functional on two of these I bought. Don't buy, unreliable and will malfunction in minutes.

You can get them used for $150 and an F mount adapter for $70 to mount an F lens.....
