I'm here from 4 months in the future when the 14-24 f/2.8G is now under $1600 brand new. Mirrorless cameras have REEEAALLLY brought down the price of F-mount lenses, and I'm 100% here for it. I finally pulled the trigger on a full-frame camera a few months ago, going with the incredible D850, and I've gotten my 24-70mm f/2.8E and my 70-200mm f/2.8E. Now it's time to round out the holy trinity. I so badly just want to grab the 14-24mm f/2.8G because it is hailed as Nikon's best ultrawide ever, but the filter issue has got me looking hard at the 16-35mm f/4 VR. Thanks for this long-term review. I'm off to watch your head-to-head comparison now. Cheers.

I used the 16-35 on my D600 and I loved it. However once I moved up to the D850 it started to show its weaknesses. Especially when it comes to corner sharpness. I replaced it last year with the 14-24 and haven’t looked back a single minute. This lens is awesome in the D850! Filters are an expensive issue tough…..

Hi Adrian, a great long-term review, buddy! Also when it doesn't feel like that, but these extra 2mm below 16mm are indeed a big difference. The only issue I have with lenses like that is that it gets more difficult with filters, which is why I tend to have my Sony 16-35mm f2.8 and my 12-24mm f2.8 lens side by side in my bag 🙂 Great sample images as well! Enjoy your weekend, Christian

I own this lens too and used it for indoor architecture photos for a friend of mine and with some post processing to correct the angles I got perfect pictures. It's a delicate and heavy piece of glass and therefore I don't use it just like that because you have to be careful. Your pictures really show the full potential of it and frankly I'm a bid jealous. Definitely room for improvement on my side ... Thank you for the review may be you could address in an upcoming video the question how it fares on a Z body with the adaptor as I have just bought the Z8 without any lenses so far.

And the end of the day this stays the best option. Great IQ but the reliability is one of the great points also. I had the Sigma 14-24mm exactly for one day because the AF motor failed. High beeping sounds and after a few minutes it completely died. I returned and got a second Nikon 14-24mm instead😊

Hello Adrian, I have always been interested in that lens but my budget did not allow me to get one. It still sells at around $750 pre-owned in places like KEH. I have had this lens since 2012 when I bought my D800e. I also bought a very expensive filter setup from Fotodiox. After using it for a few outings it became apparent that I am not a wide angle photographer, I much prefer landscapes vignettes, that is, parts of the landscape. Now having seen some of your shots maybe I need to dust it off again. Lately I have been tossing up whether to get a D850 or a Z8 with an adapter.

Hope you don’t mind me asking you this question… I’m currently using Nikon D500 partnered with Nikon 10-24 3.5-4.5 for the ultra-wide shots… The pictures are good as long as the lighting is excellent… Thinking of switching to Nikon 14-24 2.8 for a better all around photos regardless of light… My only concern with 14-24 is its bulbous front element that can’t be protected with any filter (using UV filter for my 10-24)… What say you… My other lenses are Nikon 24-70 & Nikon 70-200 2.8 VR2 Just in case, I'm just a hobbyist and love to take candid shoots & scenes... Thank you in advance for your input...
