After watching some of your videos I went into my local camera shop here in Ireland just before Christmas with the possibility of buying a Z8 .The curiosity of the D850 was burning in my head . I had the intention of trading in my D800 and Nikon 50 1.4g. There was a used D850 in pristine condition on the shelf ,it had only 1860 shutter count ,It was 1899 euros .My choice was to sell all my 12 Nikon lenses ...the Trinity and the Primes with the D800 and go for the Z8 the 24-70 and the 14-24 .To make a long story longer i ended up walking out with the D850....after paying , followed later in the month with the purchase of a Sigma 50 Art prime, nikon 16-35 and the Nikon 20mm 1.8g. I thought ... Mirrorless can wait awhile . Enjoyed the video Adrian cheers !!

Had and still have a D800, I bought a used D850 (2000 clicks) with Nikon MD-D18 for approx 2400 AUD. I love the ergonomics and features and not being into video, I do not care about the "shortcomings" in that area. Today, you can pickup so many high quality F-Mount lenses for very less money , not being a Pro, i'll stick with the mirror and ❤it.

Hi Adrian, I purchased my D850 Last year. At B&H Photo Video. They had a promotion for $2,199.00. it is everything you say it is!! I have a D500 i got 4yrs ago I absolutely love. I have a part time Photography business and it's done great I do Weddings, Portraits and other Photos. So getting the D850 was a necessity. It's the most incredible Nikon I have ever owed, I'v been using Nikons since 1978 when I got the bug in High School. Plus it's menus and control layout is the same as the D500. The 850 is now my main camera and the D500 is my back up. I love the tank like build, Resolution and the weight helps balance long lenses. Plus digitizing Slides and Negatives with the D850 Is fantastic. I have played with the Z9 and Z8 at the store. they don't Feel as solid as my 850 and the Ergonomics don't feel right plus I hate EVF. I recommend any buddy looking to get D850 check B&H Photo Video what for promotion. I buy all me camera gear there.

I do extensive nightscape and timelapse on the D850 from freezing cold to boiling hot days in the So Cal Deserts. I also shoot a lot on Maui in humidity. This is THEE camera for that work. The silent mode for shooting time lapse is the WAY TO GO as it is quiet! But the camera is tough, I have dropped them, they are reliable and I don't think I'll ever go mirrorless, just no need. GREAT VIDEO Adrien! I love your work.

On the topic of pro-body Nikon DSLRS. We cant forget the Mighty Nikon D3, it was Nikon's 1st full frame camera and was released in 2007. Iv'e had this Body since last year and it hasn't let me down even once. Iv'e had Nikon bodies throughout my life (D3, D300, D300s, D90) and this one takes the top spot in terms of performance, image quality and ergonomics. It is soo good in the hand and having lens options dating back to the late 70s when the F-Mount was standerdised gave the Nikon DSLRS an upper hand in terms of lens options, the sky was the limit, as some might say, following behind it is the Nikon d300s, which i also dearly loved but died at 1.2m clicks. This just goes to show the longevity and reliability of Nikon DSLRS. Great video Adrian, keep them coming!

Despite owning several Z cameras, I still shoot my D850 and D700 during our harsh Canadian winters because it is easier to use with cold weather photo gloves and it has excellent battery life when colder than -15C. Nice one, Adrian. I bought my D850 pre-owned, & the frame count was in the seventy thousands; nevertheless (as you assert) this camera has never let me down - it's just consistently good - so much so, I'm considering buying another. All my F mount lenses gel with this behemoth, & to be honest, I prefer a weightier camera; I too shall never sell mine either, together with my rather older D300s, FM, F3 & F4's, I'm set; for the moment, Mirrorless will have to remain on that horizon - personally, I see no particular advantage anyway. Love your images !!

Hello Adrian, you seem the one photographer that is still endorsing the Nikon D-850 and I agree completely with your assessments. I have this camera and I bought it new for $2500.00 US dollars when there was a discount of $500.00 offered. I could not be any happier, the images are superb, the battery life is exceptional and as you mentioned about the lenses available it makes a ton of sense. I also have the Nikon D-810 which does a good job and I have been tempted of selling it but I have not found a convincing reason so I keep it. I just purchased the Z5 and the 24-200 mm lens which I use it for a walk around only. All the Nikon cameras are an excellent tool if used well. Thanks for the video. Cheers from Oregon state US.

This really needed to be said! I've been shooting wildlife with my d810 for years and haven't changed it yet, because the image quality is, to this day, indistiguishable from today's high-end stuff... And you can get one used for, like, 1000€. The autofocus never let me down and the optical viewfinder is a pleasure to look in. Gotta be honest tho, I wish I could shoot those 10 bit internal videos aswell, and if I was starting I would go mirrorless for that reason, but as of now, changing all my gear only for better video, as a photographer, doesn't really convince me

Currently in Spain, my country, it is practically impossible to buy a brand new D850, but not long ago they were around €2000/2200. Second-hand ones cost around €1600 with very few shots. I have a large collection of Nikon, Tamron and Sigma Art lenses with F mount that offer me excellent performance on my D800 and D850. To get the same from the Nikon Z system I would have to spend a fortune to end up not getting a significant improvement in the quality of my images. For all these reasons, I will continue with my current SLR equipment until I can repair and maintain it properly, which I hope will happen in many years.

Here in Brazil the D850 had seen almost no drop in price into the Nikon mirrorless age until the Z8 came along. That is understandable, considering that only the Z8 may be considered as the true successor to the D850. After that, the price of a new D850 dropped about 15-20% as of now. That makes the Z8 currently about twice as expensive as a new D850 here in Brazil. An interesting thing happening here is that the D850 still doesn't show up much in the used market and, when it does, it costs almost the same as a new one. That didn't change after the Z8 arrived. (The Brazilian prices are usually about 50%-60% over the US retail prices due to import taxes, btw) Two things may be read from that: 1.) The D850 holds up in value extremely well, most certainly due to its reliability, toughness, superb image quality and lens selection; 2.) Not many Brazilian D850 owners are willing to depart from it, most certainly due to the aforementioned factors and how much more it costs to get a proper mirrorless replacement. So yeah, the D850 is a superb photographic investment, no wonder it still sells well. I doubt Nikon is blind to that - taking into account as well the brand's known attachment to its legacy and tradition, I don't see Nikon discontinuing the D850 anytime soon.

Great video Adrian, beautiful photos that underscore your claim about this camera. I'm still relatively new to it as I bought it on the secondary market for a very reasonable price joining my D750. There's only so much neutral wallpaper and carpets you can shoot without going insane😉 I still shoot with my amazing D850 and have a D810 as back up. I'm not a stick in the mud and would be quite happy to move over to mirrorless if I thought it would improve the quality of my shots. I saw a comment mention the wonderful D700, which I still have. I don't use it anymore, but I get sentimentally attached to inanimate objects that have served me well and will never sell it - not that it's worth much nowadays LOL! I'm in the UK and there's a reputable company who sells grey market D850s for £1599. I'm seriously considering purchasing another one for that price.

My D500 recently reached the end of it's life and I was searching for a new camera body. Found a NEW D850 body for sale for only $2000 USD! Yay... I may go down the mirrorless road later, but I'm happy with my new D850.

UK - I paid £2,300 for a new D850 body. I can use all my F-mount Nikon lenses - I also shoot film (Nikon's F4s and F5). I shoot colour on the Digital and B&W on the film cameras - this works for me!

You're spot on. I still use my d850 all the time. For photos, it's still a powerhouse of a camera, and I would put it against anything. My only complaint is that I do a lot of video, and this camera has become very dated as far as videos go. Yes, it shoots in 4k, but so many other cameras at this price point now shoots in LOG format and has a much better auto focus. I've found myself doing just as much video from my smartphone as this camera because it shoots is LOG/ProRes and auto focuses much better.

Using Nikon Cameras starting with a F3, I got a D850 from the Nikon-Store online for under 2200€ (in 2023 - Germany) . I think that it was a Great offer and I‘m happy I bought it. By the way , I love your videos

Thanks Adrian as always a great video. The 850 is the best camera I've owned, I was going to go mirrorless but can't justify the extra $'s for a Z8 for another 45mp camera. My (very) old D610 has died so my next backup camera for my trips to Canada/Alaska this year and Iceland in '25 will be a...D850 The person holding the camera will get the same results.

I’ve had a D850 for about 2 years to augment a D500. I do a lot of motorsports, though just returned from Hawaii. I still have many images to sort. Can’t really go wrong with Nikon.

Great video Adrian! Despite the things that mirrorless cameras might do better, I know how much you like your d850! I think you're right, I think you'll be shooting with that camera until it just stops working someday. Hopefully many years from now! Hope you are doing well pal, Have a great rest of the weekend!

After selling the D850 a year ago I’ve missed it for long lenses, I’ll keep the SL2-s but just brought another new for £1650, along with some bargain lenses (24-70 2.8, 16-35 f4 and the sigma 150-600 c which I actually love compared with the Nikon 200-500 I used to have)

I was looking for a newer camera and became excited about going ML and the Canon R5. I traded much of my Nikon lenses and a few bodies to purchase the R5. Nice camera the R5 is. I started shooting Nikons back in the 70's with a F2AS. Been shooting Nikons ever since. When I made a decision to try ML, Nikon in my humble opinion was way behind the 8 ball. I was really thinking of picking up the D850 and forgoing ML. That is what I should have done. I have the R5 and some nice and too expensive RF lenses. However I have bought back many of the Nikon F mount lenses and shoot more and more with my D700, D4s and the D810. I am still lusting over the 850 as my Nikon bodies are starting to show their age but keep on ticking. I would loose my shirt selling the Canon system. I acquired more very good and mostly used F mounts lenses. I am only a serious hobbyist now days and living in Wyoming with the harsh environment and wonderful landscapes and wildlife I use my Nikons more and more. Thanks for uploading your interesting video.

I work a lot in event / nightlife photography. Last summer I have bought the Z8, but I have to say as great the Z8 works under good light conditions, it fails in the darkness. Because of the missing AF assist light, it will be almost impossible to focus in super dark environments. I really need a this AF assist light patterns. So my D850 and 810 will be in use probably forever. Unfortunately I have no faith there will be any improvement any soon for my genre.😢

This week, I picked up a used D850 from my local camera store. The shutter actuation count was 3,971 and the store gives me a 90 day warranty along with 14 days to return for any reason. Cost was $1,299 US (April 2024). The new price for one sold in a different case in the store would be $2,499 US (standard sale price at this store). I have been shooting with a Nikon D5200 for about 13 years now so this is quite the step up:) I had thought about going with a secondhand Z7ii which would have been about $300 more but then I would need to get new lenses or get a mount (seems to defeat the purpose of a mirrorless). Meanwhile, the used case at my camera store always has a lovely selection of Nikon lenses at great prices (all with money back guarantee and warranty).

There is just something about the shots out of the D850 that have an artistic quality to them. Of course the operator of the camera certainly has something to do with that too! Can't beat that price though for an amazing piece of gear.

I use my Nikon D850 now more than 3 years for my wildlife photography with D800 in Srilanka. I use it with Nikon 400mm f 2.8 and 70-200 f2.8 for birds and other wild animals such as elephants, sloth bears , leopards and other in the national parks . It is a amazing camera with fast and reliable had never failed to capture illusive bears and enigmatic leopards in the country . When l go generally l stay in the jungle for 3-4 days and come home with more than thousand photos. The best times are the migratory season for birds , and cloudy mornings and evenings has no worry of talking crisp clear pictures of leopards and sometimes with cubs. Large birds are my favorite and the endemics where lagoons are plentiful and water holes in these jungles. Fantastic peace of equipment and a simply remarkable camera and equally important lens like 400mm f2.8 to go with it for the work. 👌👍

I completely agree. I could trade in my D850 for the Z8 and had a buyer, but I decided to keep my D850. I use it for especially for landscapes, portraits and macro, images are outstanding. For birds in flight I'll use my Z6ii and probably replace it with the Z6iii, due focusing issues.
@adrianalfordphotography11 ай бұрын
Thanks for watching. I'll be interested to see exactly what Nikon do with the Z6III. Just how much tech they pinch from the Z8/Z9 and pass down. Probably worth more trading the Z6II on the Z6III, but I guess we'll see soon enough. Have a great weekend 🙏📸

Just ordered a D850 and 24-70 f2.8 E lens, all for under £2800 GBP. I’m starting from scratch so could have gone with anything but I’ve had one before so I know exactly what I’m getting. It’s just a superb bit of kit for the cost. Will it definitely give me better shots than my iPhone? No it won’t but it gives me a superb tool to continue to learn and enhance my photography 😊

I recently picked up a used Nikon D850 and Its the only camera I needed to use the AF Fine Tune feature on but once i dialed in all my lenses, it is tack sharp. I do think I'll buy a brand new D850 when they announce it will be discontinued. I'd also like to get a new D6. I can't afford it right now but hopefully soon. I do have a D5 and it is fantastic.

In Texas as of April 2024, I've seen the D850 body run between $1500 and $2100 USD. I watched your comparison video between the D750 and D850. D750s here are going for about $600 to $700 USD. I currently use a Nikon D7000, which has been a great camera but I'm shooting more video interviews now, and limited to 24 fps at 1920 x 1080. While the price of a D750 is attractive, I feel the camera as used for video would be more of a lateral move, as I still wouldn't be able to shoot in 4K. I've written off going mirrorless with video because of battery consumption, not to mention the form factor. The last thing I want to do is stop an interview to change a battery. I guess for now I may be better off saving for a jump to the D780 as I am learning that camera has the better video focus of all the Nikon DSLRs. Anyhow, I love your videos Adrian, and your landscape and wildlife photography is breathtaking. Thanks for reading and any thoughts on my post.
