I am hoping to see the camera tomorrow at BVE and have a play. The good thing is that not that many people are interested in photography there, as it is a video show, so hoping to get a few minutes with it. Wonder what the chances are of getting a couple of shots off.

I think the new software, "capture NX-D", sounds promising with a major change: "Until now, Nikon has used a file format that saved adjustments directly to NEF and NRW files. However, adoption of a sidecar format that saves adjustments to a separate file preserves RAW files in their original, post-capture state as non-destructive files. In addition, sidecar format makes it easy to simultaneously apply adjustments to multiple files." I know, everybody uses Lightroom anyway but it's free and more than capable.

um, ISO isn't resolution. just sayin'. but yeah, ISO 1M would be funny. then 2M. the old "1/ISO at f16" rule from daylight film days is starting to look like a joke at these numbers.

resolution (ie file size) and frame rate are linked and nikon is already behind the 1dx in FPS so they would have found it hard to increase resolution and FPS at the same time. for a pro sports/journalism cam it's all about clean ISO (for max shutter speeds to freeze action), AF and FPS rather than resolution. nobody is using a D4(s) for 6 foot prints....so how does the d4s compare to the 1dx in terms of FPS?

I would bet the sensor in the D4 and Df is different while the Df and D4s are the same.

"Not as fast as the 1Dx" The pin holding the 1Dx mirror is breaking on people. Canon is fixing it by adding a bunch of lube so now the complaints is that the sensor and viewfinder screen is getting messed up from the oil.

Google 1Dx mirror box and you'll come up with plenty of hits. There is even one story of Canon trying to pay someone off to not go public with the info.

You are right about ISO and MPixels.👍 Both are not directly relevant with quality. I used to mock medium frame cameras with their low ISO but I was ignorant.

i'm curious for the DXOMark scores, i'm pretty sure ISO will be better, but by 1 stop ? i doubt it, more like a 10th stop. And ridiculous ISO like 400.000 isn't useless, i've read somewhere that astro-photographers use it to get a quick preview of an otherwise 10-360 minute exposure, but i guess 200.000 ISO would have been enough too, but i don't know.

I've been saying that the 4000000 whatever iso is fucking useless, so far your the only person to agree! (i knew you would) if i owned a D4 (i wouldn't ever) i wouldn't 'upgrade' to this....to little of a difference. As the for the 4k thing, they're probably saving it for the d4x?

When I saw the spec on the new D4S I was embarrassed to call myself a NIKON shooter... How embarrassing. I own the D3, D800e and D300s and my D800e has the best image quality I've ever seen from a dslr. There is no way I'm buying the D4s. What a joke NIKON...

Same sensor...new processor. The new high ISO marks are just because the camera can now process noise reduction better. You probably will only see the difference on JPEG files though. Canon did the same thing. Basically the only thing new other than the grip and battery is the processor. However that faster processor affects many different areas so Nikon can do more advanced things with the camera such as faster shooting, multiple point AF tracking, better jpeg noise reduction 1080p video at 60 fps

I cannot see myself buying the Nikon D4s just over a few changes. I know that some photographers will buy it because they want to upgrade or got the cash. I do not have cash. I would rather wait 3 years and get the Nikon D5 with a 20 MegaPixel with 12 FPS and 65 focusing points and better and faster focusing that really locks on a subject. I wait for the review. For now canon 1Dx is the better camera.

Noone needs 24mp, you're just an amateur so you think you do. 16mp is enough for everyone, unless you're producing billboard size prints.

thats what they said about DVD resolution a few years back.. A key advantage of a good sensor with a high pixel count is that it can resolve plenty of detail, as of the d800 one could argue that its 36 mp is too high for many.. my argument was based on the fact that 35mm film surpases the equivalent of 16mp.. so yes i thought a 24 or even 20 mp sensor on a pro camera like a d4s would have been great... considering you would have that extra fine detail for large prints also.. ok skippy?

agree, with more pixel to work with (just enough) is like having more RAM on a PC (or MAC), useful. average users need about 3GB RAM and more advanced users need more, same thing here. and for certain, the D4s isnt for amateur.. more is always good, rather than not having enough to begin with.
