🥇 The D610 is my recommendation for an entry into Nikon full frame DSLRs. It's relatively small, light, uses SD cards, and is easy to find in good condition. 📣 These are affiliate links. The D4 is an excellent camera. I updated the firmware and now can use a 70-300 AF-P full frame lens. It's excellent for wildlife.

Good Documentary - for me my favorite DSLR was the D800 - a big jump of MP and specs over my previous DSLR D300s - 36mp superb image quality; improved AF and one camera I used the most in DSLR days; granted it only had 4 FPS; brought subsequent cameras D810 and D850. Never took to the D810 - D850; simple evolutions over the D800; although D850 is the best stills DSLR ever; my bug bear was with the Video LV- which I was shooting hybrid then with the newly released Z6 MK 1.

I've just retired and needed a hobby to occupy my time. I bought a Nicon D750 and a nifty fifty nicon nicor lens. I'm still learning how to operate the camera as I haven't had it too long. I know nothing of photography but will enjoy the learning curve. I'm saving for the D850 and then I will sell the D750. Thanks for the video. Informative. 👍

To answer your question about why people don't upgrade from the D4 or D4s is simple: The D4 and D4s are amazing, and their output is unmatched to this day. They have a 3D effect right out of the box and are really hard to blow highlights. The Z9 may have better, but not necessarily needed, features, but its output is not as great. Plus, not everyone needs 46MP files.

Not full frame but I shoot a D500 and love it. Don’t plan on changing.

I would buy one second hand with a low shuttercount. Search online how to check cameras...

D4 owner here. I’ve had a host of dx and full frame bodies, but this is my favorite unless hiking. Just love the color rendition. I still use it for wildlife, particularly birds. I also have a z6 for more general use - both take XQD, so no complaints about the card type from me.
@JacobWithACameraКүн бұрын
I have a Nikon D4 that I still shoot wildlife with…. Sometimes. XQD cards are hard to come by, my computer also struggles to read XQD card, I have to unplug and plug back in several times or wait several minutes for it to read. My USB drive slot on my computer has no issues with other cards. The camera is great, not a fan of XQD. I prefer the D4 to be my backup camera, I mainly shoot with my D810.
@OutsidetheShot9 сағат бұрын
That's unfortunate to hear about XQD cards. I feel like they were only around on a consumer level for a few years. I'm worried they're going to get very expensive.

If you use liveview a lot, or want to shoot video then the D780 is really the only one to consider in my view. An unexpected bonus is that the shutter is quite a lot quieter than my D750.
@PJ-om2wq18 сағат бұрын
Another advantage of the D780 liveview. Sometimes I want to be in the shot rather than behind the camera. Very few non photography people have ever used a viewfinder, and I'm finding that such people seem to cope much better with the D780 in liveview than other Nikon DSLRs.

Thank you for this very thorough review! For the D750 you are really spot on, as for the D700 (the two ones I own).

I have been a happy D610 owner, got my D600 replaced with the D610 at some point. Also I am now a very happy owner of the wonderful D3s which has the best handling and ergonomics I have tried. I had it for ~ 400 Euro with less than 100.000 actuations, sweet. Thank you for a nice video with which I agree.
@MM.2 күн бұрын
You didn't give the D810 a lot of time to shine for it being your top choice (which, having one, I absolutely concur :) ). One non-obvious perk of this body is that it has a very mellow shutter sound, quieter than both the D800(E) and the D850. There are comparisons on KZbin, so anyone can easily verify this themselves.

the d800e has the best DR out of all of them as well. it's a monster camera, I changed it with a Fujifilm GFX100S, the difference in photo quality and RAW files was negligible, I knew i was spoiled but fml, what a camera. 750.000 actuations i had on it, dropped it off a cliff, busted it open.. that's why i sold it for parts, the darn camera still worked!! :))
@Carl.652 күн бұрын
The D4 is a superb camera and is a low light monster. The image quality is fabulous- and it is more responsive than the D3. Plus it has a bunch of small but welcome improvements over the D3 series- better auto white balance, illuminated back buttons, XQD is way faster than CF cards, huge buffer, you can assign ISO to the record button, much improved live view and rear LCD screen to name a few.
@OutsidetheShot2 күн бұрын
Thanks for your insights. I wouldn't have come up with those without using the camera. Illuminated back buttons and being able to assign the record to ISO would be huge benefits. I would be annoyed to no end if I couldn't easily change ISO.

@@OutsidetheShotD4 has a dedicated ISO button also on the back bottom left, there is several buttons there ISO, Qual, WB, and audio note recording with their own lcd readout

I have a z8 and d4s, the z8 is an amazing camera for a lot of genres but I prefer the look out of older dslr bodies, I find especially for portraits that the newer bodies produce images that just look too clinical and sharp.
@dPico-digitaldurda19 сағат бұрын
maybe you need more time spend with your camera,less or more you can get what ever you need with z8 / z9 and even more in depth than d4s. talking from experience, more time you spend more you will discover and anticipate. digital gives you so much more options and yes you can simulate every style or tech invented before digital. it is just ridiculous and so subjective to say z8 is clinical. man, Z is not a microscope type of cam. it is ment for photography, i mean photography and photographer is ‘the one’ who is taking and editing photos. in my 50yrs career as pro i met tons of folks including myself not seeing things in front of me. just be more analytical to yourself and work harder do more somewhere something must be missing, ok wish you all the best, man, photography is not easy when you byte you are chewing it cheers

Wanted a D810 since a non camera brand specific buddy....(i was the brand snob) whole heaetedly just said yes to my beginner wisdom. Started off choosing Nikon,ended up Canon..now a few hundreds thousands shots later as a sports tog,ended back at Nikon with a late model D series. Ime sure he would have simply smiled and said.."yes"!

Adding inflation is not important, camera companies have not added inflation because the cellphones have been such huge competition.

I wish manufacturers made new camera with old body design Remove mirror box ,replace ovf to evf, move cmos forward and replace the mount Then use the free up space for better cooling and electronics Then we can have a modern camera with all full functional button/secondary info screen plus good grip Been tried many mirrorless but they still cant provide good grip/good button layout as old DSLR 😢
@stevenj23802 күн бұрын
Interesting question of why general, non-pro photographer would buy DSLR now instead of Z. Besides Nikon still dangling the unfortunate 'second class' DX system (IMHO) into the Z system.
@richardhale9664Күн бұрын
Huge range of compatible lenses, unlike the Z system. Better battery life. Tremendous value for money. Tried and tested tech - all the reliability issues have either not arisen or have been sorted. The camera does not even need to be turned on to check a composition. Some people just prefer looking through a proper optical viewfinder. The biggest advantages of a mirrorless system is that you can make smaller bodies and adapt any lens to fit. Then the manufacturers throw that first big advantage away by making giant expensive lenses, and they don't want you to be aware of the second advantage as they want you to buy those big ugly lenses.

D200-D700-D810-D4s. I own theses as well as the D70. I enjoyed the ease of use and , the fun and consistent wow of the 700-810 and my favorite the D4s. If I had to get the shot no matter the weather or lighting the D4s is the one I would take. I am not making money with my camera gear now. I am retired and own a Canon R5 with 6 RF lenses. The R5 is a great camera but I will always lust after my Nikon's and still thinking of selling the Canon and going back to the Nikon DSLR. I have never own a D850 but gosh what I have seen and heard that is the camera I would try to obtain. Why? Maybe only for sentimental reasons. All cameras now days are top notch. Too many options on the new ML bodies. Keep it Simple Silly!

The joy stick is the selling point, the D850/D500 have one,and a few of the pro body but with out that im not buying a Nikon camera.

I'd add, to your D600 comment, because of the poisoning of the well, the D600 has suffered from a bad rep for years and prices have been considerably lower than the D610 - an identical camera. I looked at the situation and decided to gamble on a D600, reasoning that the majority of them would either have new shutters or be entire factory replacements with the bug ironed out. I've had the D600 for a few years now and not the slightest bit of trouble with it. At the time I saved about two hundred Euros over the D610
