The Nikon D5100 has Stereo Microphone Input like the Nikon D7000.The only Advantages that the Nikon D7000 has over the Nikon D5100 is the 2 SDHC,SDXC Card Slots. But this is only a convieniance at Single Card SDXC Memory 64 Gigabyte SDXC Cards. You can always pop in your 2nd SDHC or SDXC Cards on your Nikon D5100 Single Slot at a fingers notice installment. The 16.2 Effective MegaPixel APC-Sensors of both D5100&D7000 Nikons are"Identical".Both DSLRs use EXPEED 2,C.P.U. noise reductions processors!

1 advantage of the Nikon D7000 is that you have Shutter Speed&F/Stop control in 1920x1080/24fps on the Nikon D7000.But all other operations of ISO,Auto-Exposure,Manual White Balance&11points of Auto-Focus in Video/Audio mode+Continuous Focus are"Identical"in Video/Audio of both,D5100&D7000.Auto-Exposure in Video/Audio on the Nikon D5100 will look identical to the D7000.If you do"not"set the"Shutter-Speed&F/Stop in Video/Audio,correct,on the D7000=Worse Video/Audio than on the D5100 Auto-A/Vmode!

I own both the Nikon D3100 & Nikon D5100. The Nikon D5100 has Full 30 Frames/Second Video/Audio at FULL 1920 X 1080. The Nikon D7000 only has 24 Frames/Second at 1920 x 1080p.The 3"LCD Screen at the back of both the Nikon D5100 and Nikon D7000 both have 921,000 dots of LCD Resolution but your Nikon D5100 is a FULL Articuled LCD Screen which can be rotated Vertically,Horizontally,Backwards, and Horizontally by Flipping the LCD Screen at the 3D Left,Right and Forward in Inwards. The Nikon D7000 NO!

Why go pay for Body of the Nikon D7000= $850 (Body Only,NO Lens.) when you can purchase the Nikon D5100 for only $450(Body Only, NO Lens.). The Nikon D7000 with Kit Nikon-Nikkor 18-55mm VRII Kit Lens is $950+ Taxes.Your Nikon D5100 with Kit Nikon-Nikkor 18-55mm VRII Kit Lens is $550 + Taxes.Remember your Nikon D5100 is HD Video/Audio at Full 1920x1080p at NTSC setting a Full 30 Frames/Second NOT Nikon D7000 24 Frames/Second. Also Colour Accuracy of both DSLRS is 6.4(check"PopPhoto.com)Lab Tests!

Does this justify, one"Averages out,Specification differences of the Nikon D7000 Vs. D5100 Nikon"$550 with Kit Nikon-Nikkor+18-55mm. VRII Lens of the D5100vs. Kit Nikon-Nikkor 18-55mm. VRII Lens of the D7000 Nikon at $950=a difference of $400 Dollars more for the Nikon D7000. Use your Wisdom, the answer is"Get the Nikon D5100 over the D7000,then save up your Money for a Year or 2,Later & get the Nikon D7100 which is now a better DSLR,EXPEED 3,Specifications at $1,100 with Kit 18-55mm. VRII Lens"!
