I used a Nikon d70 and d70s for about 5 years in the early 2000’s taking portraits, headshots, etc for actors in Los Angeles. It was an amazing camera for me at the time. I was self taught learning how to shoot film in the late 90’s and the jump to Digital was amazing and that Nikon Camera was wonderful. I still have it and it works. I got out of photography around 2010 because it seemed like everyone including customers were all caught up in the size of the camera’s megapixel and not the quality of the photography. Great images. Thanks for sharing.

Happy to have stumbled upon your site. I have a D70, purchased a couple of years back to go along with my D70s. The D70 cost me $50 GW's and felt like fly paper in my hand, it was so sticky. Half and hour, a couple of tablespoons of denatured alcohol and four q-tips and today you'd never know at one time you could hold it upside down in the hand and i wouldn't fall. I absolutely love my D70 and D70s. Thanks for sharing your opinion and I enjoyed your photos immensely.

You are definitely in the old school category. Seeing your box (film) cameras brings up childhood memories. My dad thought that film processing was expensive at the fuji parking lot drop-off booths. But I did get some trigger time in on the oldie-but-goodies. Your photos are superb - more than phenomenal. It's unfortunate that today's fast shutter-speed attention span can't take time to notice. Do you miss the red lights? (AKA dark room) :D

Proof, that a lot of Megapixels are not needed for quality captures. I shoot casually with a D40-X, but also have very high megapixel newer cameras that mostly hide in their bags and rarely see the light of day. Should have bought gold instead of those cameras. Great Pics, Ron... Thanks for the Post.

Thanks for sharing the memories and taking time to make a video of it! I like to use older cameras, but the oldest I have at the moment is a Sony alpha A7 classic. Took some beautiful butterfly pics two days ago with the kit lens. I have some beautiful hot air balloon and beach pics printed 8x10 with a 7.1 MP Casio exilim pocket cam. Don’t need the latest and greatest equipment to take great photos! Keep up the good work kind sir.

Good to see that you are still putting out some good videos! Very helpful when looking at older cameras that Nikon have made with the older CCD sensors. Will keep following you, as long as your health allows you to be on KZbin. I have a Nikon D200 and a Nikon D800E. The D200 still can produce better unedited color with the CCD sensor than the unedited D800E shots. Take care. Michael T.

You have great composition skills. I suggest that you use CPL filters on some photos. I bought this camera only in this year. Not a big difference between D70 and D70s. Very comfortable, supports 32GB CF flash, does not need many batteries, has fast AF, and can use an old AI Nikon lens. Before this camera, I had only 10+ Mpx cameras, and I have an Impression about that camera. I'm taking a pictures for few month use only this d70 + d70s. Thank you for the video. I hope that people can think about how the camera matters.

An important point, a camera like this is lighter, as well as the lenses compared to the big D800 for example, so ideal for taking landscape photos while hiking. Un point important, un appareil comme celui la est plus leger, ainsi que les objectifs par rapport au gros d800 par exemple, donc ideal pour faire ses photos de paysages en randonné.

Great video and outstanding images. I bought mine D70 back in 2004 shortly after they came out. My unit is still functioning and has about 40k clicks. Back in the day, I flew on board of a turboprop aircraft and sat by the window where i could observe the spinning propeller. I had my D70 with me so I started experimenting by taking high shutter speed pictures. At 1/4000s the propeller is frozen and you could read the factory imprints on it. Didn't know it at the time, but the CCD sensor gets the credit for the prop blades being NON-disfigured as would likely be the case with current CMOS technology.

Back in the day, i liked my D70s way better than my dad's D200. I dunno, always thought the D200 was a tad too greenish from the output. The old DSLRs from Nikon renders beautifully. To me, the D2Xs gives the best colours, right out of the camera. The D2Hs, gives character (a bit like Slide film). And D70s/D50 gives the same character as they have the same sensor. I think the D50, is more reliable than the D70, abouit the compact flash reader. I changed mine, because i had the ERR message, but it stopped functionning days after. Now, they are so cheap, you can buy another and shoot until you get the ERR message one day... haha. And to this day, my main camera is still the D70s followed by the D2Hs (goes to 1600 iso beautifully as it's only 4 megapixels).

I own 2 Nikon d70 and a few Nikon lens. These are the perfect camera and lens to take on vacation if your going to a 3rd world country. People get cameras stolen all the time in these kind of countries. So I just bring a cheap Nikon d70 and 2 lens. If everything was stolen or broken I would not be out 150 dollars. I have never had anything stolen in any country but I have had items damaged from drops and airports are hard on electronics. So that’s what I use the Nikon d70 for. It’s not fancy but takes great vacation pics and it’s cheap. It’s the only Nikon equipment I own. I’m a canon guy but I do really like the Nikon d70.

Wow. Nice pictures. I still have a D50, the brother of the D70, but I broke the ASP-modes using a flash from the 1980s. The camera still works in manual - at least every second time - if you use old manual lenses. Loved the color from the ccd on that camera. I think the sensor may be the same as in the D70, 6mp 3008x2000 px. I olso have a D3000 with a ccd-sensor (10 mp). May be time to use it a little... The last few days we have had full summer here in the north of Norway, after weeks with rain and clouds. Thanks for the video. Hope to see more of your "old" pictures.

Thank you! I think you're right about the D50, the era of the D300 seemed to bring about the end of the CCD sensor for Nikon if I'm not mistaken. I'm still waiting for full summer here in Alaska.

if it was only software related there would be no reason to make a camera with a foveon or ccd sensor. It is defintively hardware related. Did you even try to shoot on a Pentax 645D, Leica M9 or Nikon CCD sensor based camera or Sigma foveon?
@diegoscopia
@diegoscopia Жыл бұрын
It's the CFA that determines colours not the sensor technology. Modern cameras use weaker cfas to achieve lower noise levels. But the sensor doesn't really see colour just light intensity values and then does an interpretation. Early Canon dslrs also have very unique and pleasant colours but they use CMOS, not CCD
