My dad gave me a D70 when he passed away. I used to only use it as a hobby or when I got bored. The camera still works perfectly and I’m still learning how to really get in-depth with it but I can’t wait until I really learn all the features. Thanks for making this video.

I think the D70/D70s are fine cameras, even by today's standards they have great ergonomics and take fantastic images. I'm not sure if the D70 was different, but by default on my D70s and my newer bodies, the rear knob is for the shutter speed and the front knob is for aperture. This can be reversed in the menu settings on my other bodies. Just mentioning it so if someone picks up a D70 and the rear is not changing the aperture, this may be the reason. I honestly don't know. Great video and completely agree, if you want a very low-cost entry into the DSLR world, the D70 and D70s is a fantastic way to enter.

Thanks for sharing....yes D70s is still with me & works fine...the 'beep' doesn't work but everything else is ok....even though I upgraded to D7100 & then D500, I just love Nikon gear...I am only a hobbyist & just enjoy taking pics of whatever interests me.... cheers from Australia 😀

Excellent video .. I have a d70s and d50 and beside they are 6mp camera still producing amazing result with good lenses , is true that more megapixels give you the opportunity to crop closer without loose to much details , is the fact that the person behind the camera is who make the the photograph, as you demonstrate in the video.. 👍🏼👍🏼

ANYB -oops anybody know how to stop the intrusive flash from automatically popping up and going off when I don't want it? Thanks for this great video! Can't find any "flash off" setting short of duct-taping the pop-up flash down so it can't pop up - but i think "auto" mode calculates based on assuming it's going to have the flash available whether you want it or not?

@@PinkhatPhotography Im sure this doesnt come as a shock to you maybe something you can mention in a new video on film cameras is the cost of film and developing. As you kmow I found a 110 Instamatic camera that had a partially shot roll of film in it. I finished the roll and took it in to a camera store 60 miles away and they send it out. Besides a 2 week turnaround for developing, printing, and scanning (scan quality for 4x6) it was $42. 75 so needless to say I am just having developing and scanning for $20 Definitely a price shocker!!

I think you would have to get a compact flash reader that would plug into your phone in order to make that transfer

Struggling. The manual tells me how to do the timer setting (D70) but I’m not seeing what it says I should see. I’m thinking the manual I found online is wrong or perhaps something is wrong with the camera or I’m just not getting it.

Today I fired me D70s up again and put the 17-55 f2.8 on. I almost sold this camera a while ago but glad I didn't. This was a real performer back then. Fastest shutter speed is 1/8000. Colors are quite vivid straight out of the camera. Most camera's back then as the D200 and D700 had vivid colors. Todays camera's give more neutral colors and pics look very clinical. Yeah I know it sucks to have a D850😆😆😆

@@PinkhatPhotography The 17-55 may be an older lens but on apsc still the best mid range zoom. You can use it on FF but in crop mode of course. But a 24-70 on a apsc is also a great option. Yes I know the crop factor.....So what🤣

Hey man, i just found my dad's nikon d70. Even he forgot he had it. I charged the battery and everything with the memory card still in, works perfectly. But the display next to the viewfinder is on, it shows the number of pictures it can take. Even though the camera is off, that display on top is on. Is there any way to put it off?

Thanks for this very informative , have just bought one of these old beauties, however due to covid the guy who sold it posted it to me.. it all lights up etc but I’m having a problem with the card I keep getting the format code on the top , I downloaded the manual and followed the instructions to format and it says formatting then goes straight back to card needs formatting any ideas? Would be really grateful thanks

It could just be a bad card too, I would look at getting a 2gig on Amazon or try formatting the card with your computer

The first thing I would check is lens connection and memory card, if the card is no good it won't take a photo

I have a question I'm using a non Nikon flash setup strobes to be exact I used to know how to remotely take a shot and have my strobes fire along with the shutter but haven't used it in so long I forget what settings control that I have the enel3 remote working fine but my strobes are not firing for me I know it has to do with ITTL or something like that any advice would help thanks and great video

@@PinkhatPhotography Hay bro it's ok I just now figured out what I was missing on the D70 Nikon in order to use the remote it's a simple step of pressing the shoot mode button and turning the command dial until it shows an Icon that looks like the remote when I relearned that I really felt stupid anyway thanks so much for trying to help I appreciate it, have a great weekend my friend

My D70 takes completely black photos on anything above 1/15 shutter speed without direct light going into the sensor. and even at that the pictures can still be fairly dark and underexposed unless I turn the shutter speed down to something like 1/18 but then I have the issue of not having a clear picture. raising the ISO all the way up does not fix the issue and for some reason raising the f-stop to something like 22 makes the photo darker if not already black. This is all happening only on manual mode and shutter priority mode. Any way to fix this or will I have to replace the camera? Also my aperture and f-stop controls seem to be flopped even though I have the same model camera as you. Shutter speed is on the rear and aperture is on the front.

The shutter speed f stop thing is something that can be changed in settings, as for your issue it sounds like the exposure compensation might be turned down, I don't have a video on it but I have the link for the manual, let me know if that fixes it www.manualslib.com/manual/327487/Nikon-D70.html?page=96

Even messing around the the settings randomly with the ISO at 1600, shutter speed at 1/60, and f-stop at 22 I'm getting a black image in a completely normally lit room

@@PinkhatPhotography My apologies, I had the way f stop works backwards. For some reason I thought higher values let in more light haha. Still learning manual. But unfortunately I’m still getting a pretty dark image. Maybe my camera just doesn’t do well in light situations that don’t involve a lot of sunlight? Setting the ISO at 800, shutter speed at 200 and the f stop at 3.5 still provides a very dark image but not complete black. I was hoping to do some decent night photography but the camera is on the older side and probably won’t do very well in lower light situations.

The d70 isn't great at fast lowlight photography, try putting your shutter speed at like 3 seconds and see what happens

How do you set the self timer on D70S. I have set it on the menu on the camera for a 10 second delay. But when I press the camera button it just snaps a picture without the timer!! WHAT AMI DOING WRONG?!!

What’s the difference from D70s to d70?

Overall they are extremely similar as they came out a year apart from one another. The D70s uses a prism over a mirror and has a slightly larger LCD screen on the back over the D70. Since the D70s came out later, it is generally believed it has better sensor tech and firmware, and is probably easier to find at low shutter counts.
