I like this guy, he appreciates the quality of cameras instead of getting caught up in the "top notch best quality most expensive gear" by using a d7000 which is not known to be a professional camera, awesome!

(Continued from above) - With that said, I'm still sold on the 180-200mm. It is great for shooting 18mm then in a second or two shoot at 200mm. Better to get the shot than to miss it as you change and drop lenses.

I don't own Sigma's APO 70-200mm F2.8 EX lens and know little about it. I chose Nikon's 70-200mm f2.8 and never looked back. It is my favorite portrait lens and also has some great uses for weddings. If this lens is out of your budget, consider Nikon's 70-200mm f4. Another thing worth mentioning is, I try not to change lenses too often if I can help it. I'll change camera bodies fitted with different lenses instead. You want to avoid the risk of dirt getting onto your sensor.(Continued below)

The rotating bracket I use on my Nikon D7000 is the JustRite rotating bracket. Learn more about it in my video"Camera Bracket & Accessories". Not sure if they are still in business since the website no longer loads.

I agree with one focus point. You can have as many focus points as you want, but the camera will never know what you want to focus on.

I currently own a D7000 and a D600, and i use both cameras when shooting weddings. I use primes on the D7000 (either the 50 1.8 or the 10mm 2.8 fisheye) because i like to have it with no flash, wide open, and shoot available light. On my D600 i have the Nissin MG8000, and i use the latest nikon 24-120 F4 VR. This is a GREAT midrange lens specially for FX cameras. I say that if youre gonna invest in lenses, buy FX lenses. You will eventually want an FX camera!

It’s not that the D7100 is that much better, its newer technology offers a few more options that you may or may not need. Either one would be a good choice. As for the increased file size of the D7100, yes its 24 meg sensor may be more than what the average enthusiast needs, memory cards are relatively inexpensive and are now available in extremely large capacity so no worries.

Current camera is a D60. Either the D7000 or D7100 would be a big step. The cost difference is not significant so is the D7100 that much better? I worry about the D7100 will fill the SD cards quickly because of the increase in pixels.

hi there. first post ever. I bought my first dlsr ever, the d7100 exactly a week ago, and im already thinking of bringing it back and grabbing a d7000. don't get me wrong amazing quality pictures. but since I shoot Jpeg only and I don't post process, (hobby/everyday life photography) the banding issue with the 7100 has me very irritated with my low light shots, I see it more now that im looking for it. damn you Toshiba. I hope that my d7000 purchase wont let me down...

Looks like you have a great collection of prime lenses. When we do a wedding, in addition to using prime lenses, we also like using zooms. The 70-200mm f2.8 is really great but limited in the wide range. So, my assistant (2nd shooter) and myself both get great results using the 18-200mm. Even though it's considered a general purpose lens, you can get some great photos using this lens that you may otherwise miss. See my two videos Nikon's 18-200mm Lens for Wedding Photography - Part 1 & part 2

Image sharpness, for me, has let down the 7000...my D40X was sharper...im considering a part ex for the 7100... I have sent back both the 18-105 lens and the camera for adjustment but I still find Iget sharper pictures when I use my lens on his D90 and one of his Lens on my 7000....

Today I received my new Nikon 70-200 2.8 VR II. I took it out to a lake area near me and took some photos, only may two or three came out in focus.You have any clues, disappointed in Florida. I have a D7100.

+Ray Sanders If your camera settings are correct, you should not have this kind of focus problem. Double check your settings, such as auto focus is on if you are shooting in auto focus mode. Also be sure you are shooting within the minimum distance that the lens will be in focus. If your other lenses are working fine, it may be a problem with this particular lens.

Its not just about the image quality guys. The autofocus system of the D7100 seems to be way better than the D7000. I have a D7000 and in low light its a pain in the butt in critical moments. I missed tons of focusing during wedding receptions when couples are walking in. The D300s, in my opinion, has not as good image quality compared to the D7000, but i take it anytime over the D7000 when it comes to focus speed!

Spot on. I got rid of my D7000 & kept my D300s. Now, if the D7000 had the focus system of the D300s, I would never have let it go. Nikon screwed up big time with that AF system.

If you want a fast tele lens, stick to the 70-200 and go according to your budget. I had the Tamron 70-200 2.8 (not OS) for a while. It did the job, but it would hunt for focus like crazy in low light. When i got the D600, i bought the nikkor 70-200 2.8 VR2. Its AMAZING! well worth the $2300. I heard some greats things about the new Tamron 2.8 with OS. Its $1500 new. I would go for that. If you dont mind a slower lens, then go for the 28-300 VR. Yes its FX, but you will eventually want FX.

Would the D5300 be a better choice over the D7000? I've done research but it's still very hard to choose. What is your opinion?
@photofonz
@photofonz 10 жыл бұрын
Someone asked the same question about a week ago. Here's my response: This would be a tough and close call. While the Nikon D7000 is still a fantastic camera by today's standards and has many features over the D5300 such as a built-in focus motor, much longer battery life, 2 card slots, and is weather sealed. The D5300 has several advantages over the D7000 especially if you're doing movies since it has a higher frame rate for movies. I especially like the Vari-angle screen also. If it were me and I was going to use one professionally, I would choose the D7000. For movies,fun and hobby use, I would choose the D5300 for the above reasons and newer technology. Best of luck.

photofonz I was on the verge of buying the D7000 a couple of years ago when I was ready to graduate from Canon's entry-level Digital Rebel, but then discovered the articulated view-screen on the Canon T3i. Suddenly that became a deal-breaker. I was greatly relieved to find the D5100 which had all the 7000 features I was ready to use (except the dual SD slots) AND that must-have articulated view screen. No more pressing my face down into the dirt and thorns to look thru the viewfinder when shooting up the stem of a fireweed. It's a great camera and turned out to be perfect for my level of experience (former F2 user) - and for my wife who took up photography with a passion once she got her hands on it. Some day when we're ready for a second body, it will probably be the 7100 or successor rather than another 5x00 series, but for now we're perfectly happy with it.

Had my 7000 since Dec 2010 I'm sure the 7100 has some improvements but if you put up a row of 16X12 decent prints I would but very surprised if anyone could pick which was shot on a 7000 or a 7100. If I was buying new and I could stretch to the extra I'm sure I would go for the 7100 but as I am happy with what I have I see no real advantage to paying for what seems to be minor improvements perhaps in 5 years when the difference is greater I'll change my camera. I am not a great changer of kit, my camera before the 7000 was a Mamiya RB67. My cameras have to work for a long time before they get retired :-) but one thing at least I can honestly say I really know how to get the best out of my equipment, Constant gear changing without being fully conversant with it IMHO effects the image quality for lots of modern photographers more than what kit they have. Remember the oooh its got bad back focus war cry when the 7000 first came out, very funny Good info there PF

No i don't think so, Ive studied photos of the d7000 d7100 and d5200 and couldn't tell them apart, the differences are so microscopical... its really nitpicking, plus the d7000 and the d7100 are completely equal in video image quality, and the 5200 in my opinion beats both ... but considering everything id say the d7000 is now a great deal price/quality i would not get the d7100 over the d7000 unless i had money to blow for no reason.

Hi, thanks for your reviews and comments. However, I think I should add comments re superimposition of two (or more) similar lined patterns rotated by a small amount: www.google.co.uk/search?q=moir%C3%A9+pattern&ie=utf-8&oe=utf-8&aq=t&rls=org.mozilla:en-US:official&client=firefox-a&channel=sb&gfe_rd=cr&ei=EZ-AVIr8DuLH8geiuYK4Cg In the camera's case lines somewhere in the image interacting with the 'lines' of pixels. Perhaps when sensor manufacturers manage to produce a chip saturated with randomly placed pixels (and, maybe?!) of different size, we might be nearer to emulating a film with crystalline silver salt? I agree with your feelings of the D7000: great camera.

Although this video is titled, "Nikon D7100 - Is it Better Than The Nikon D7000 Part 1", I'll address your comment about the D7200: Negative. Been using my D7200 for three years now. Focus is quick and tack sharp. It has never spit oil. In fact, used two D7200 camera bodies on yesterday's portrait session resulting in beautiful sharp images. It does well while shooting auto white balance too. My only small complaint about the D7200, is the buffer could be faster. But for my type of shooting, it's not a big deal. Before using the D7200, I was a happy D7000 user for several years. Also, an outstanding camera body, when you consider the price they are currently selling at. I replaced my D7000 with the D7200 because it had more features that I wanted plus, Nikon did away with the anti-aliasing filter. Another important feature on the D7K series is having a dual card slot. For me this is important as a wedding shooter. It is my belief, the Nikon D7200 will remain a Classic for years to come. The D7000 is not too far behind.
