Wonderful video and photography, Adrian! We have double-crested cormorants and belted kingfisher here that are very reminiscent of the species you have there but we have nothing like those beautiful rainbow bee-eaters! WOW! I love that boardwalk too. Thanks for sharing, I enjoyed this!

Thanks very much Phil. It is a nice spot for a walk and for some bird photography. Unfortunately my timing was a bit off this day. It was high tide so I didn't get any birds feeding in the shallows as they normally do there. Still happy to get those bee-eaters though. Have a great weekend 👍🙏📸

Great job Adrian!! I'm not much of a bird photographer but loved watching you search them out and get the shot. Looks like your D750 did a wonderful job. And I'm glad you addressed how your settings work for you! Purest and know-it-alls have always put me off, that's why I like the solitude of landscape photography. Whatever works for you is the best way. Thanks for the adventure! Great video, beautiful scenery, and wonderful bird shots! Have a great week and stay safe!

You captured some beautiful bird images Adrian! I'm always amazed at how well the D750 has held up considering it is now about a 6-year-old camera. It just goes to show you, you don't need the latest and greatest technology to produce some stunning results. Loved the video and happy you were able to get out and have a bit of fun on such a beautiful day. Cheers and have a great weekend!

Thanks so much for watching Rob. I agree, it's not the camera, it's the person behind the camera and the lens they use that helps get the results. The D750 isn't the fastest, but you can still capture some nice shots with it, that's for sure. Hope you have a great week mate, cheers 👍🙏📸

Hi Adrian, Wow - this area looks like a paradise for bird photography :) I like your photo at ~2:29 most, with the flying one. To the settings thing, I see it like you. Photography is so often reduced to settings or technical things only. Finally all the gear is just a tool to get the composition, we built up already in front, onto our sensor :) Nice greetings, Christian

Wonderful photos. I was surprised though that your speed was nearly always 2000 even when the bird was still. I usually aim for 500-800 for still birding. Is there a reason you use 2000? Also do you ever use Active D-Lighting? I'm a bit puzzled by this setting. Thank you.
@adrianalfordphotography
@adrianalfordphotography 2 жыл бұрын
Birds can still fly off at a great speed hence and 2000. I'd rather try catch one taking flight. But if it's sitting on the tree so be it. Yes I would normally use 500, but for this video I didn't. 🙏

Great video Adrian, I'm looking at the D750 as they are a great price right now. My only concern is I'm shooting with a D7500 crop. I'm worried about loosing that extra reach. Do you use a 1.4 extender on your lenses ?
@adrianalfordphotography
@adrianalfordphotography 3 жыл бұрын
Thank you very much for watching Stephen. I'm not one for extenders especially shooting full frame where you can crop in and still get a pretty decent high quality image. If you were doing birds and wildlife with the D750 I'd suggest going for a lens like the Nikon 200-500mm or Tamron 150-600mm G2 with F mount. Both are pretty reasonably priced for what they are. Hope this helps 👍🙏📸

beautiful pictures. 80-400mm is 3800 euros for a F/5.6. you are on a sunny day. Looking your camera settings, I just wonder. I have a d300+70-300VR F/5.6 which would correspond to a 450mm F/5.6. Any experience with such "old equipment" ?
@adrianalfordphotography
@adrianalfordphotography 3 жыл бұрын
thank you for watching. I have no experience with D300 and 70-300. If you wanted a dedicated bird and wildlife lens, look at either Nikon 200-500mm F5.6 or Tamron 150-600mm G2 F mount.

very nice examples and setup tuto. speed priority or manual ? how does auto iso work in manual. in my case I have a 70-200 2.8 so is 2.8 recommended or too shallow and 5.6 is more reliable ? is group better than single point ? I would have been trying to focus on beak or eye with my single point :-) why grp instead of d9 points ? i didn't understand in first tuto how you use spot and matrix metering ? spot is done only on center point so if your camera is in matrix mode, i suppose you point on the bird with spot and switch in manual to change the aperture... ? how would you use your technique to "eye detection" of a fashion photography with girl walking to you ?

Hi Marc - thank you for watching. There are a lot of questions in your comment. Just too many to try and answer here. And it is difficult to try and answer because it is like me trying to tell you how to drive a car or play the piano via email. The only way to do those things is to physically practice, practice, practice. It's the same with photography. Watch my videos closely then go out and try it. Sometimes you may find better settings that will suit you and your photography style. Have a great day 🙏
@marclabro
@marclabro 4 жыл бұрын
thank you. can you just explain how you use the spot metering on field with front button while being in matrix mode by default ?
@adrianalfordphotography
@adrianalfordphotography 4 жыл бұрын
If you watched my D750 set up video you would have seen I assign spot metering to the Pv button. Look at the top display of the D750, when you push in the Pv button, you'll see it change from matrix metering icon to spot metering icon. When a darker bird or darker animal is against a bright sky or background hold in that Pv button while also holding in the back button focus and start shooting with your shutter button. The spot metering should expose for the bird/animal correctly. You can just try this at home on something dark in your room. Do one shot with matrix metering, then do the same holding the Pv button in and taking a shot at the same time. You'll find that shot will expose for the darker object in your room, more than the matrix metering one.
@marclabro
@marclabro 4 жыл бұрын
thank you, i mostly use spot metering but didn't understand how you shoot spot while being matrix. now i understand : hold in that Pv button while also holding in the back button focus and start shooting with your shutter button. THANK YOU !!!
