Thanks Dean. Your tutorials have really helped me understand how to use the various settings in Nikon NX Studio. I currently edit my photos in Faststone Viewer. I'm now ready to upgrade to NX studio with the knowledge I've gained from your videos. Keep up the good work.

Hi Neal. I really like this clip, but cannot find a place on my NX Studio to turn on the Auto Denoise feature that you demonstrate. Each .nef file has no denoise applied unless I go & do it manually. Any ideas on what I'm doing wrong please? I do have the latest version 1.1.0 64 bit on my PC.

Hey Dean,thanks again for your simple informative video,I was Wondering if you could give us what your editing steps might be for an image, thanks 😊
@PhotoBlue3 жыл бұрын
Thank you. Yes, I will work on that. Thank you for the suggestion. It can vary a bit but as a general rule, I try to look doing the general things like white balance first, but I also try to figure out the best order to do things depending if one process might affect another. For example, it is better to straighten a photo, before cropping it, because when you straighten the photo, it gets cropped slightly to make everything square at the end, so if you straighten after a crop, you end up losing more of the photo that you may have wanted to. I will work on a video with some examples and how to approach editing a photo.

@@PhotoBlue One question, unlike yours, my raw photo's don't seem to have noise reduction already applied when I first start editing in NX Studio. Am I missing a setting in my camera? What is the Better Quality 2013 setting all about?
@PhotoBlue3 жыл бұрын
@@davidtaylor921 What model of Nikon are you using? Some models it might not automatically put that setting on. Better Quality 2013 just adds extra sliders that split up noise reduction settings for luminance and color, so it gives you a bit more fine tuning.
@davidtaylor9213 жыл бұрын
@@PhotoBlue I just changed from a D500 to D850, neither of which seem to add automatic noise reduction.
@PhotoBlue3 жыл бұрын
@@davidtaylor921 I checked it with some photographs that I did with my D610 and it does not automatically set the noise reduction on that camera, but on my D5600 it sets it. Both have High ISO noise reduction set to normal and long exposure noise reduction set to off. There might be a firmware update for the D610, D500, and D850 thjat would update this or it might not be supported to automatically apply NR for some camera models.

Hi Dean, is there a way to apply dehaze in NX Studio to NEF files?
@ClaudeMCAUWE7 ай бұрын
Hello, I intensively use NX studio (1.6.1) with a D5 and a D850. Best software for rendering the « pop » and the colors of a Nikon file (even if deserved by its inability to manage correctly external storage w/o crashing and its slowness). However, i do not see here that Noise Reduction is activated by default on NEF files, nor that it does a « first assessment « by itself ». Do i miss something somewhere ? Best, Cl.

OUTSTANDING video for a NR newbie. I'll see how well I c an do with this compared to the Prime DeNoise in my old version of DxO Optics Pro. ;-)

How would you compare NX Studio to DXO Deep Prime? Which one is better?
@PhotoBlue3 жыл бұрын
I have not tried Dxo Deep Prime yet although I have used a few Dxo Products. I will try to download a demo and make a video. Just off the bat NX Studio is a free program and only works with RAW photo format files from Nikon. Dxo DeepPrime is designed to work with multiple RAW image formats.

Hi, I found NX studio to be slow after making changes, not like Lightroom. Is this normal?
@ClaudeMCAUWE7 ай бұрын
Unfortunately yes. Has to do with the fact that Lightroom works on previews, while NX works on the original NEF
@gregoryfranz39403 жыл бұрын
the settings for Z cameras are different. Have you checked this with a Z Camera
@PhotoBlue3 жыл бұрын
Thanks for bringing this to my attention. I checked noise reduction on some Z5 images and it only gives the option of "Camera's Noise Reduction" which is only visible when there are no other options available and that only gives you the choice of normal, low, high, and off. This is apparently an intentional feature added by Nikon. Nikon actually worked with Adobe to have certain noise reduction profiles automatically applied to the RAW images from Z cameras, so my guess is that they decided to force NX Studio to only use and adjust noise using the the Z camera's noise reduction. There are a few oddities in NX Studio based on camera model. For example, showing focus points is not supported for all cameras, but in most cases there is more functionality in the various functions of NX Studio with newer cameras. I think in this case, Nikon, probably decided they wanted only the NIkon Z noise reduction algorithms and technology applied to Nikon Z Raw images. I will have to research how Nikon Z cameras handle noise reduction more, but my guess is they felt the newer methods worked much better and decided just to remove the older methods for Z cameras. When noise reduction methods are available in NX Studio sometimes there is a Better Quality and a Better Quality 2013. I have never been able to find an explanation of the two choices, but I assume it was a newer version of Better Quality noise reduction developed in 2013 just as Adobe has a color profile named Adobe RGB (1998) which was developed in 1998.

Only 360 p? I can't read the text on the right sight. No problem with the older very good videos.

That is odd. I processed it 1080, and it appears to be 1080 now, but sometimes KZbin puts out a video at SD standard resolution which is 480p if they are behind on processing HD. I might start putting videos on a scheduled instead of putting them out right after upload to ensure they have time to fully process before premiering or being available. Thanks for letting me know. I have seen notices in the past that a video is available in standard resolution and will be available in HD once it is processed, but I do not remember seeing any notice this time.

Hi Dean, Thanks for all the short tutorials, they are giving me great hints and tips and ideas as to how I can improve my PP work. I currently only use this program for editing my RAW images from my D7200. Converting to low res JPEG for Flickr and Facebook Groups. Its seems to be working for me without having to spend extra money on L.R. or P.S. ........Keep them coming. Cheers Mal Austwick from North Yorkshire, England.

Great to hear! I hope to also continue creating some videos on other alternatives to Photoshop and LR some that are free and some that are lower cost that might suppliment NX Studio. For example, GIMP is a free equivalent to Photoshop that is useful for functions that NX Studio does not have. Affinity Photo has a one time cost of $50 and actually had most of the functionality that Photoshop has including adjustment layers. So if you need a function that NX Studio currently does not support chances are you can do it with GIMP or Affinity Photo. Anyway, I am glad you are finding the videos useful. I will keep working on them.
