Nikon NX Studio workflow for Parents and Pro's with Nikon Ambassador Jasin Boland

One of the most frequent questions I am asked is with the thousands of images I can shoot every day on a film set or at my sons hockey games, how do I manage my workflow.
NX Studio is the only Raw reader made for your NEF meaning it to only one that can accurately interpret your colour and settings.
This system is perfect Mum and Dad shooting their children's sporting events or those like me who shoot thousands of images a day on a film set!
It's also aimed at those curious about Nikon NX Studio and those who are just learning how to manage their own work flow.
We all have our own system and I totally get that what works for me may not work for you.
I'm a working photographer first KZbinr way down the list...
I Am an Australian Nikon Ambassador and motion picture still photographer.
I have been shooting the Nikon Z6, Z6II, Z7 and Z7II and now Z9 on Disney, Marvel, Warner Brothers and Netflix films including Shang-Chi, Thor Love and Thunder, Mulan, Kate, Escape from Spiderhead, Extraction, 3 Jason Bourne films, the first 3 Matrix films, Action Unit on the last 3 James Bond films and the yet to be release Furiosa and Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes.

Always been a Lightroom guy, but I keep hearing that NX studio will do some things for the newer Nikon cameras that other software can’t

NX Studio is woefully underrated. I used to use Capture NX-D before it changed to Studio and the difference between the rendering engine of Nikon and Adobe is night and day, especially in skintones. It's a shame it's not as optimised, I really like Capture One for speed. While it's not as good as NX Studio at rendering in all circumstances I find it a good compromise

Unfortunately it's slow, buggy & the usual Nikon halfarsed approach to software. Who knows, maybe one day it will get better, but I won't hold my breath

Couldn’t say better. De-matricing in NxX studio beats all other softwares ( i used Capture One). But it needs improvements in terms of speed and stability.

There is nothing better for developing Nef Nikon, third-party programs, yes they are cool, but they do not develop raw as well as the native program.

Just discovered NX Tether and together with NX Studio brilliant. Also in NX Studio there is an option to send it to another program on your computer. So it is like a hub to cull, edit and send your photos

you can then open them in the editing program of your choice.

Hi, sorry I’ve not been on this site before. I found the NX Studio piece, very interesting. I used Nikon software from its concept years ago. However, lately I find when I transfer images, into NX Studio, sometimes it tells me the folder is empty. In explorer they appear and I have to create a new folder to put them into, to see them. I always use Nikon Transfer but into Adobe bridge for ease. Any suggestions? Also I have two fast -laptops running windows but the program creeps along compared to Photoshop and Lightroom…….. Help

Hello Jason, Alphonse from the U.S., two part question; do you use NX Studio when you are working on motion pictures as a Unit Stills Photographer ... AND ... do you shoot all day and edit at the hotel room or edit on set between set-ups? BTW - new to Nikon editing software, but been with Nikon since 1977.

Thanks buddy, yes I use NX Studio on my film productions and do my select edits in photoshop with Nik Colour effects 5. I try and get everything done on set so I can have a little life away from work...

I wish Nikon PR and UI team to come title bit closer to earth, one hardly ever find more unresponsive and confusingly dated to 90s interface then NX

With your Z9s high fps rate, you must get thousands of images each day that need culling. What software do you use for this for unit stills, NX Studio? Do you do this daily, or every few days? Love your work big J, cheers!

daily and sometimes during the shoot day if I am up to date. I usually run a day behind.

So you send to lightroom using tiff format right? I am just concerned that tiff files will have all the raw information of the dynamic range i want to increase or decrease in shadow recovery
