The weather of Kathmandu was very clear few days ago so here's a video from mountain obsessesd guy like me who couldn't stop himself from making a video of the Masjestic Mount Everest that lies in the east and other several mountains from Langtang and Gaurishankhar mountain ranges. I filmed some bonus footage in the end of the mountains Dorje Lakpa , Jugal and Lenpo Gang in the end to give you the reference that it was taken from Kathmandu as those mountains are really near from Kathmandu and appear sharp , clear and near in the video.Enjoy and Please do subscribe for more content.

For reference, this was shot at 2175m above sea level and 200km to Everest. Therefore about 90m of Everest is actually obscured behind the horizon. The main reason it is appearing small, relative to other mountains around it, is distance itself rather than curvature. Those other mountains are much closer. If you look on Google maps you can see that this isn’t looking dead on towards a range, but actually at a bit of an angle to where the mountain range is, and there’s quite a few peaks that come before Everest. Those other peaks are comparable heights, just much closer, so the relative height difference is mainly a measure of how distance is affecting apparent size.

Those mountain peaks look so rugged and deadly…it’s hard to believe so many people summit those death traps.
@davidmarshall718
@davidmarshall718 Жыл бұрын
In reality very few people summit them. Prior to about 1950, almost no-one did, except on rare climbing expeditions or occasional maverick small teams from Europe that were either exploratory in intention or attempting the major peaks, usually from the Tibetan side as Nepal was closed to foreigners until 1950, all using primitive equipment and forging their way through uncharted and unknown territory and peoples. In the 1950's when the King of Nepal opened its borders to foreigners the major peaks were ascended by expert climbers from Europe who had acquired climbing skills in the Alps over many, many years; and were members of large, well-organized, well-equipped and well-funded expeditions, battling many obstacles besides the mountain, in those days they had to hire hundreds of local people to pack tons of supplies on their backs on trails to the bases of the big peaks from Kathmandu. Other nations became involved from 1960 on, such as China, India, Japan and the USA. It was not until about 1980 that more expert climbers from other countries began ascents of the big peaks and many smaller ones, the smaller ones in the 6000 meter / 20000 foot to 7000 meter / 26000 foot class still being higher above sea level than most mountains anywhere else. Expert climbers also attempted new routes on major peaks, the huge southwest face of Everest shown in this video was first climbed after many failures by a British Expedition in 1975 led by the famous Christian Bonnington, he also led a similar expedition in 1970 that climbed the south wall of Annapurna, the first big mountain wall in the range to be climbed. It is only in recent years, since about 2001, that people with average skills and fitness in mountaineering have been ascending the major mountains of the Himalaya, often being "carefully shepherded" to the tops by expert guides and porters who have transformed some mountains, notably Everest, into some sort of an "alpine circus". Foreign trekkers have been walking the trails in the valleys and passes since about 1970, the locals have been walking them and building the trails for millenia.

I own one, 3000mm equivalent zoom. True, the sensor is not the best but in good lighting I've gotten some really good shots, and it takes awesome photos of the moon with a dedicated moon mode. Handheld stabilization works very well, but for 3000mm you really need a tripod. I like it, but it really is a special purpose camera, not something you want to take everywhere.

I think the illusion is that the left one looks "taller" because there is something infront of both of them in the middle, which makes the left one appear as if it is behind Everest, when it is infact infront of it Up until 0:29, it appears as if the Left one is further away, but at 0:29 you can see that little peak bottom left that is no longer connected to anything, if that wasnt there it would be clear which one is closer

@@Suvarnastudio10 Thanks for the reply. One more question: Now that you zoomed in all the way, you end up with a rather bad image of Mount Everest. In fact you had to show a better image from the internet from another camera to show it really is Mount Everest. What do you do with those zoomed in images from the P1000 other than making a KZbin demo? It seems the camera has an impressive zoom, but the IQ results are mediocre at best. This is no criticism, but I have yet to see a really good image out of the P1000. Or do you use it more as a telescope (a rather expensive one)?
