I laughed out load when you said that you can "fire this flash until it literally bows up". I'm dying!! Thomas, that has to be the best sound bite for any camera equipment I've ever heard. Well done sir!

The SB-800 works perfectly with the Z9. I’ve been using SB-800’s for 20 years. They’ve worked with the last 10 Nikon bodies I’ve purchased. Nikon have done a great job with backward compatibility. Great review of the flash. Keep it up. 👍🏻

Excellent overview of the SB800. I am a crime scene photographer and aviation photography enthusiast. Although I have some formal training, I have yet to fully explore the potential of the SB-800s that I own. This video will help me buckle down and improve my weak areas with flash photography.

I use the SB800's (3) and the SB900's (3) with my Z8. And, I'm really pleased with the outcome of these two older flashes. Saves me a lot of money. What else is great most of all my older Accessories works with the Z8 so far, all the way back to my 10 pin Infrared remote which is about 40 yrs old are more and wired ones too. Haven't had a chance to try my SU and Radio Poppers remote control yet but i feel like they work also with the Z8.

Great appraisal of this old workhorse that I bought with my D750. I like to understand better regarding all the functionalities it offers. Your review showed me that you know and care about the details. I did look for it because I consider to add another one for certain scenarios (added a used D850 2 years ago) and for convenience reason I tend to prefer the same model but I was looking for confirmation that the SB800 is still "very good" and I'm glad that I got it!

Many thanks for the kind feedback! I would definitely recommend this unit, especially if you already got one - as you've said, better stick with one type of equipment! Best wishes!

Really excellent review - thanks for posting this. And, as someone who speaks English natively, I have to say that your spoken English is really excellent 🙂. Following your review, I've just bought an SB-800 to go with my Nikon F5 so I'm looking forward to seeing how the results come out when I get the film developed.

Great review, thanks for that. Wish I could find another one in mint condition & boxed with all accessories. Mine still works great after many years of use, assisted by two SB600s.

Hi, any help if you can, I bought used Nikon SB800 flash, when I turn on it fires flash automatic conitinus every 5-7 seconds nonstop, until I switch off, do you have any solution
@robertdufresne91952 жыл бұрын
I have one but never used it because of the high variable ASO that most digital cameras have . I agree it is a good flash. 🇨🇦

Thank you for the comment - the awesome advantage a flash like the SB-800 offers is more control, bc. as you said: modern digital cameras offer amazing ISO ranges!

can't find any detailed info how it will works in other cameras, like Fuji X-T3 and whether it supports high-speed sync there or not
@ThomasEisl.Photography Жыл бұрын
Hey John! High speed sync is not possible. Also, the flash cannot communicate with third party bodies regarding exposure data - but it does not have to. The flash has a separate exposure metering cell so you only have to set the parameters in the flash and it will work with every camera ever built. Hope this helps!

I have just got an F5 from a Camera Club Friend and the SB-800 -- but HOW can you mount it on a HASSELBLAD 500CM - NO Hot-Shoe or electronics ? - Do you have to use the extension cord not included in the set ? I have a Hasselblad 500CM
@ThomasEisl.Photography Жыл бұрын
Hello Pete! I use the SB800 on a hot shoe adapter which takes a sync chord (connected to the Hasselbad). Then I can either set the output manually or use the built-in light meter of the flash. Works really well!

@ThomasEisl.Photography2 жыл бұрын
Yes, I can imagine that! But even with a low light monster like the D6, a flash is very handy indoors!
@michaelrasmussen33472 жыл бұрын
Hi Thomas, I am not entirely sure SB-800 is the one for most users. I have been doing some comparison with SB-600 and from I found out SB-600 can do must of the same things the SB-800 can. Of course if you need the commander mode, beefier flash, and the extended zoom range then SB-800 is for you but for most users SB-600 does the job. Another thing is that since both are not produced anymore you have to find a used one and since the SB-800 is the pro version of SB-600 you are not likely to find one in excellent or mint condition but since the SB-600 is the consumer grade version of the SB-600 there are many used ones around in mint condition for half the price of a banged up SB-800. An alternative which can be found in mint condition is the SB-700 but if you want to use it on SLR's besides the D6 then SB-700 is not your choice.
@ThomasEisl.Photography2 жыл бұрын
Hey Michael! Thank you for your comment and elaborating on the viability of the SB-600 and the SB-700. You are right that many SB-800s are pretty banged up and considerably pricier. The SB-600 is a very good "budget option", you are right!
