Hey man! Love the video. I was wondering, can you adjust the aperture size with the v1 in movie mode? Thanks in advance!
@SIX-SH00T3R12 жыл бұрын
that button is for unlocking/locking the zooming-part of the lens, if it's locked, it's out of focus and you'll get a message "rotate the zoomring to extend the lens"... to rotate it you need to keep the button pressed, rotate, and let the button loose (it sounds quite elaborate, but it isn't, it takes about half a second). there is manual focus, but not on the lens, it's digital with the wheel, it's not quite as fast as a focus-ring, but it does the job when doing stills. no manual with video

I had a quick look at the J1 in my local shop yesterday. I noticed that it still has some degree of shutter lag. I don't want it to take images before I have fully pressed the trigger I just want it to take one shot at the moment I hit the trigger not a split second later. Is this possible with a compact?
@nfaguade13 жыл бұрын
@mikeismad61 way to miss my point, 35mm was seen as a small, crappier format, considering MF was considered the "portable" alternative to LF back in the day. Kinda like P&S cameras today. So, you have been a Nikon owner for over 30 years. So? This isn't the first time you mention it. Good for you I guess?

PS - yet another Jessops branch - this time in Sutton Coldfield closed this week. Sad. I remember when they only had one branch and gave you a MASSIVE price list covered with tiny print and great prices. Apart from Tecno (also long gone/much missed) no one could touch them. I think it all went wrong when they became Dixons replacement. Lower skills, less interested staff and higher prices. Still sad - the staff at Sutton were rather good.

@JRCrowley - Well technically, you're doing it wrong too - since it's a japanese word, it would be pronounced - "ni-kon" where the i sounds more like an e. Nick-on is the commonly accepted british pronunciation, and Ny-kon is the North American pronunciation. The world does NOT revolve around the USA.

I have one :) and I really like the camera, it's just a very very good compactcamera, or a (little bit) less than average SLR-camera... I just hate the size of common SLR's, but I do like the sharpness and quality of them... so the Nikon 1's are a nice in-between choice for me :)

@Anbesol84 Maybe not. Look at the review from Steve huff. Copy and paste one of the comments he wrote. Quality still lies in the blood of Nikon's product. Steve Huff says: November 10, 2011 at 10:12 am I did some ISO testing last night in my house at midnight (I was bored). The V1 beat the E-P3 and the NEX-7 at ISO 1600 when shooting RAW with all three and turning off NR. Impressive.
@mikeismad6112 жыл бұрын
Do you have one? Do you know ANYONE with one? No, didn't think so. Nikon have had to drop the price (the J1 is much much cheaper now) - Nikon will learn from these naff cameras (example - 60 shots a second - but the buffer ends at 12 shots - what a con!) roll on the Series 1 part 2 - perhaps they should get Panasonic to help them out?
@fez87713 жыл бұрын
@Anbesol84 Would you mind looking at review sites like one from Steve huff's? He did some test straight from Jpegs up to ISO 6400 and IQ is so much better than my EP-3.

Sony uses sensors designed by Nikon. The proof is that the sensor from D3200 is made by Nikon, D5200 by toshiba, D7000, D600 and D800, sony, and D4 nikon. Also the lithogray equipment sony uses is made by nikon, and the price sony pays is making all the sensors for nikon for free. Also, Sony doesn't even manufactures lenses, they are all made by Tamron.
@mikeismad6113 жыл бұрын
As a Nikon owner since 1978 (FM) I have to agree - these new Nikon cameras are a REAL STEP BACKWARDS and whilst Nikon will do their best (and will sell some) they'll be REAL cheap on E Bay in say 3 years. Very very disappointed with Nikon right now Nikon have benefitted from their partnership with SONY - clearly Nikon can no longer do their own camera design without making a HUGE mistake 3 out of 10 Nikon - must do better!!!

@JerryTheSquid Current quality (including lenses) is just slightly better than compacts in my opinion (for example take a look on flickr on final results). I would buy something like a canon powershot s100 which at least fits in my pocket, or for the price of a v1 a reflex. Olympus mirrorless seems more reasonable to me.

Japan Hobby Tool makes urban camouflage cover for Nikon 1 system !! So now we have further confirmation users of the V1 & J1 are so shy (shamed) they can hide the camera whilst still trying to use it !! LOL !!!!! See DP Review for details. Such a gift to the many (like me) that think Nikon have made a HUGE mistake withe their V1 & J1. I'm still betting that within 12 mths you'll be able to pick up a J1 with kit lens for £199. Just watch !
@fez87713 жыл бұрын
@fun0418 Check out Steve huff's review. He mentioned the J1 beat NEX7 and EP-3 at ISO 1600 with NR turn off. NEX system is crap, way too huge lens. Unless you want the "Bokeh" that only larger sensor can produce.
@mikeismad6113 жыл бұрын
I point out that I have been a Nikon owner for years so Nikon fans don't feel that this is simply a Canon owner attacking a good idea from Nikon, far from it I think these new cameras are a DISASTER - in a few years time I will be proved right and Nikon will be seen to have made a MASSIVE mistake. Please waste your money but don't try to convince me or others that their a new Lecia standard !! I just hope they don't screw up the next gen DSLR's - then again they'll have Sonys help with those !

I agree the designers of these new Nikon cameras should seek help (from Sony?) - as soon as possible. As for my mental state (thanks for your advice) Im not alone in believing that Nikon have dropped a MASSIVE brick. When Nikon introduced the compact FM, FE and EM they got stick, but even the cheap EM could turn out a picture as good as the F2AS or F3. This is NOT the case with the V1 & J1. Their also very expensive (up to £900) I hope they fail cause only suckers will buy these !!

@fun0418 The GF3, and NEX7, and EP3 and EP1 ALL have better image quality than Nikon. Only get the Nikon if you want to make flip books with its 10fps, and if you want to pay too much for inferior quality. Oh yeah, the Nikon Kit lens is also inferior to the competition, by a lot even! CA's galore. The Nikon J1 might be a "good camera" on its own, until you see its competition, then the J1 just sucks.

Sorry but the Nikon V1 & J1 are simply rubbish, if I were you ( I take it your a Nikon fan/owner) I'd be more worried that the V1 & J1 are the first Nikon products done without tech support from Sony - and what a total mess they have made of it.Clearly without Sony sensors etc Nikon are in trouble. I like Nikon - I still have an FM from 1979 - but NOT when they produce 3rd rate gear. I predict the 1 format is doomed - J1 for £199 ? - just watch.
