Very good video and revue! You forgot to mention two important things for me: the low battery capacity, I have the Z50 and use 3 batteries for my nature photography, and the additional U3 switch position to store user settings. This comes very handy for me shooting stills and videos. I plan to upgrade to the Z50 II for the better autofocus.
@WimBalsАй бұрын
Thanks for your reply. At 05:32 I mention the extra function key (U1, U2, U3). While the original Z50 had respectable battery life, the new Z50ii is no improvement in this area. This should be taken with a grain of salt. I can easily shoot over 800 images on a full charge. Perhaps the use of airplane mode and the fact that I never leave the camera on unnecessarily has something to do with it.

I have Z50 II, I came from Z fc to Z50 II and I am very suprise what this camera has for that low price. I looked for Z50 years ago but display and micro-usb were two problems for me. So I choosed Zfc. But when Nikon started selling Z50 II , I ordered it and I love it. 🙂

I am saving up to get this camera, hopefully later this year in the summer. What lenses or lens do you recommend starting with? I already have a Z6III for pro work, I want this camera for walk around, family outings, snapshots, travel, street and portraits of loved ones. Also just as a camera I can give to my girlfriend to learn on and play with on her adventures. I have some full frame lenses (35, 50, 85) but what lens do you recommend starting with on the Z50II? I’m considering the 18-140 as a leisure lens.
@WimBals18 сағат бұрын
The 16-50mm and 50-250mm are pretty great if you buy them bundled with the Z50ii.
@babyboy197118 сағат бұрын
@ that’s good to know. Do you think that’s better combo than the solo 18-140? I do think the small size of the 16-50 is nice to have as an option.
@WimBals16 сағат бұрын
The 16-50mm is very small and has great performance. For around $ 350 more you are getting the 16-50mm & 50-250mm in a bundle with the Z50ii. These two lightweight lenses covers 16-250mm. No brainer to me.

Thanks for this review. I currently own a D750 and an old D7000 (which is heavier than the D750...), I want to replace the D7000 by the Z50ii, with the 16-50 for landscape when hiking in the mountain, and with the FTZ adaptor to use my long primes for bird photography. Looks like an amazing little camera !

I got the Z50 II and really like it. The menu system and button layout are very user friendly and the low light performance is outstanding. I was worried it might suffer without IBIS but I think it performs better than my E-M1 due to the sensor and much more powerful processor. This is in low light indoor shooting with the 16-50 kit lense. I still do hope Nikon comes out with some brighter DX VR lenses.

Hi Wim, dank voor alle duidelijke Nikon reviews! I bought a 3DS second hand kit with AF-S 24-70 G/ED, VR 70-200, VR micro 105, all 2.8 + Tamron 150-600. I sold the 3DS after 2 months of shooting, too heavy to carry into the mountains for game shooting and birth photography... I do like the mirrorless, according to Nikon's helpdesk those lenses should work on the Z50II? Would you either go for the D7500 or Z50II (+FTZ) with those lenses? Thank you for your reply. Beste groeten, Kristof
@WimBalsАй бұрын
Bedankt Kristof!

Thank you for this review. My camera is backordered, and I'm trying to learn more about it as I wait. I've got the z50 Mk 1, and I ordered the Mk 2 as soon as I read that it has the z8/9 autofocus and Expeed processor. I can't wait for mine to show up. One question: is it possible to lock the focus point on the Mk 2? My focus point wanders as I use my camera because I can't lock the rocker switch.
@WimBalsАй бұрын
Thanks, the Z50ii is more than an upgrade from the mark 1. As I mentioned in the video, it's more like a Z60. I'm not sure I understand your question. You can 'lock' your focus point by selecting single point AF. With the d-pad (round button) you choose the location of the AF point by going up or down, or left and right. In this mode the autofocus does not jump around. I hope this helped you a bit.

@@WimBals Thank you for your response. The problem I have is that when I look through the viewfinder my nose touches the screen, which then moves the focus point. My D850 can lock the focus position, which prevents this. On the Z50ii I have to choose between live view and viewfinder and stay with it. I find that I like to do both. It's not a huge issue, and probably means I have to break a bad habit. BTW my camera arrived, and it's even better than I expected. Fantastic camera. I still can't believe they put the best parts of the Z8 and Z9 in their least expensive Z camera.

Vey good review, thank you! I'm a Nikon amateur photographer, I own several Nikon DSLRs but no mirorless Nikon. The one I was eyeing was the D500 which was a professional grade APSC sensor camera but unfortunately it was discontinued. With this review I get the impression that the Z50 II has approached the standard of the D500, particularly on the Auto Focusing and buffer capacity specs. Am I right in this assessment? I'm considering seriously to buy it!

Excellent video. Hopefully Nikon increases DX Z.mount lenses repertoire. Only five lenses is frustrating. Required fast prime with VR included. 😮
@harriettubmanappreciater9091Ай бұрын
Yeah, in general the lack of lens treatment of apsc across all the brands (except fuji) is why i have trouble accepting it. People call MFTs a thing of the past, but at least it has a true prime lens lineup at a variety of prices and use cases.

Third party lenses jumped on board with fast f/1.4 lenses. Or you can use fast full frame lenses.

Nikon Z50ii or spend the extra for Fujifilm X-H2?

The Fujifilm is double the price. You are gaining more megapixels and in body stabilization. Or you could just buy the z50ii and some great glass. The choice is yours 😉.

It’s a shame it’s got so heavy. I have the z30… and while this would be a great upgrade, I don’t like the idea of carrying 150g more. I’d live for Nikon to bring out an 18mm prime to match the 24mm DX.

I have got the z30 too as a 'pocket camera' paired with the 26mm f/2.8. The new z50ii is bit heavier indeed.
