Just how much more can they add to these cameras to try and get us to keep updating so tithe can keep making money? I get Pros want the best results but what does the average photographer do with there images, put them on Instagram, certainly not in galleries? Most would not be working photography for income, this is just GAS and marketing hype.

Yes, it may be important for professional photographers to have the latest technology, but for most people, in a standard use case, even older models can give great results. Technical details and equipment are of course important in photography, but what really matters is creativity. Photos shared on social media platforms such as Instagram or in personal galleries mean more than just having great technical specifications. Everyone has their own style and story, and this can be expressed without having the latest camera technology. That's why it's important for everyone to make their own choice of equipment based on their budget and needs. If buying a new camera excites you and you think it will enhance your creativity, why not? However, it is important to remember that not everyone has to follow the latest model. The true beauty of photography is the expression of inner creativity and emotion, and this is possible with any camera model. Ultimately, everyone has different preferences and priorities in their own photography journey, and that is the right thing to do. While concerns about technology and marketing are understandable, it's important to remember that the main thing is to express your creativity and enjoy it. Any camera is a tool with which you can take great photos, and it's important to choose the one that works best for you.

It would be great if it offered downsampled RAW files to, for example, 35MP. I own a Z8, but I'd consider buying it if it had a mechanical shutter to get rid of the banding issue caused by the electronic shutter.

Yes, offering downsampled RAW files could be a really cool feature. This can convert data from the high-resolution sensor into files of a smaller size, saving storage space and increasing processing speed. Also, RAW files in 35 megapixel size would allow you to utilise your storage space more effectively while increasing editing flexibility. Using the mechanical shutter to overcome the banding problem created by the electronic shutter can be a really clever idea. While the speed and silence of the electronic shutter is great, in some cases it can cause banding issues. Therefore, offering a mechanical shutter option gives users more flexibility and allows them to achieve the best results in different shooting conditions. As a Nikon Z8 user like you, we understand that such features are important. It would be great if Nikon would consider such features in future updates or new models. However, keep in mind that you can already take great photos with your current equipment. In any case, it would be nice to see Nikon constantly taking customer feedback into account and developing future products accordingly.

Banding issue? Could you please elaborate on that point as I’m thinking about getting the Z8 myself. What kind of banding issues did you experience?

​@@jonasgillmann I use Godox lights, the problem is that I can't use HSS with shutter speed above 1/800. Above this I get horizontal lines in photos. With Profoto light is better, people reported banding above 1/8000. What's the most concerning some people experienced it during photographing very bright dynamic scenes like e.g fire from cannon explosion (banding only on fire) So the problem is real, and not related to only HSS. Z8 it's a great camera in many areas, but for this price you expect the product to have more features than e.g Z6/Z7. At least Nikon should offer EFCS (electronic first curtain shutter ) like in Canon R50 which would solve this issue

many decades have gone by & nikon is the only company that CAN NOT make an ATG 2.4GHz TTL transceiver speedlight. now, 2024 shooters are shooting tethered down & tripped over by a cable (1:53). just rent if you can't make $5K/job

Nikon pretty much abandoned speedlights. Just get a Godox kit and you're all set.
