This video is awesome for 3 reasons. 1. Its Henry Turner being Henry Turner 2. It's refreshing to hear about USED gear reviews which is arguably more needed nowadays than new gear reviews. 3. Reminds people you don't need the latest version of whatever camera/lens to take good photos. Great kit has been around for years. Spend the money wisely but spend the time better.

One understated fact of the 45mp sensor is cropability. It's extremely versatile from that perspective. You can crop 30% of the image and still have a 24mp image left. Also, the "problem" with the Z7 is once you've shot with it and see how wonderful the sensor and output are, it's difficult to go back and use something less "capable".

This is my take on two key differences between the Z7 and Z7ii of what might or might not matter to people. 1) Extended shutter mode - The Z6/Z7, for whatever reason, Nikon has not upgraded the camera to support in camera exposures over 30 seconds. I think you are forced into bulb mode after 30 seconds. The mark 2 of both of those cameras can have exposures in 'extended' mode up to 15 minutes I think it is. Very useful for night photography, or when wanting to really drag the shutter with a 10 stop ND. 2) USB-C charging and power delivery while the camera is on/active on the Mark 2's. I can setup a small charging bank to the camera a never worry about swapping out the battery if I am doing something like a time lapse or again night photography. I also see that right now in the U.S. that Nikon has a $700 dollar rebate on new cameras which may also push down the price in the used market for either camera. Also makes me wonder with that discount if the Mark III's are around the corner. Clearing out inventory perhaps?
@thomastuorto9929 Жыл бұрын
MKIII version rumors are flying around. Maybe or could be scraping up some cash for retooling production lines. Also, it has been a tradition so far that Nikon has these sales this time of year. If you’re not doing action/sports/wildlife the II version is a power house of a camera. You can get BIF but the keeper rate % will be lower.

When my 5Dii packed in a year ago, the obvious upgrade was the R6. After looking at various options I went for the Z7. I love the colours out of the Nikon and the 45mp sensor was tempting as I intend this to last me 10 years. The biggest factor strangely, was the grip. I use a wrist strap and can hook two fingers on the grip and let it hang there. I just love this camera. Lenses are 24-200, 14-30 and a Viltrox 24mm 1.8

I started using MPB because of your referrals and I’ve been thrilled with their service, prices and gear for nearly two years now. I bought my Z7 just from them last December and it was literally like new and whoever had it first never did the updates and maybe took a handful of shots. I just hope my skills keep improving to match the potential of the Z7’s features. It replaced my Nikon D7100 that still works perfectly after ten years of constant use. My son is using it now. My Z50 is four years old and works like new. It has had a few tripod crashes and suffered nothing more than two or three tiny scratches on the casing. So - I endorse your channel, MPB and Nikon cameras.

I've owned the Z7 for about 4 years from shortly after it came out and even though I bought the Z8 I am fortunate enough that I am able to keep both and love both of them for different reasons and some of the same reasons. The Z7 is great for landscape and cityscape photography because it does pretty much everything needed for that in a smaller , lighter body that is not too expensive now like you said, that is weather sealed, has IBIS for handholding, full frame 45 MP sensor for great image quality. there is no need for high performance focus tracking with landscapes.

Great little video on the Nikon Z7. I am currently shooting with both the Z7 and Z7ii. They are both wonderful cameras for landscape photography. I feel like they don't get enough love from the Nikon community since the z8 came out. One thing I love about the z7's is their size. They take less room in the backpack and are lighter to pack the distance. I also have the z24-200. I have the 24-70 2.8s, but the 24-200 is on my camera more for the weight and extra zoom. I'm also a user of the same pack as you.

The Z7 and 24-200 is my dream combo, bought a used one ages back when I saw your videos on how good the 24-200 was. Not needing to change lenses in bad weather is a lifesaver. Promise not to tell Nikon but I have a Nikon z7ii but I had it covered for infrared photography. I also have a regular z7ii body I use for street photography. I was using a d850 for street but moving to the smaller z7ii body was a breath of fresh air. For my landscape work I just sold the d850 and jumped to the z8. I have to say the z8 is larger than the z7 body and a little heavier but the layout and functionality I find easier to use on the z8. I find I can just get to things in the camera faster. And if you find yourself in a situation of shooting wildlife the 30fps jpg or 15fps RAW is AMAZING.

I reckon the 100-400 would be a good addition for you Henry as it would give you some additional options for your repertoire of images. I have been with Canon for a good number of years and given my investment in my lenses, I don't see a need to jump platforms although if I was, the Nikon brand would definitely be a contender. I currently have an EOS R and its served me well over the last few years. Moved from the 5Div mainly for the articulating screen as some of the positions I get into for my architectural photography were difficult with a fixed screen. Patiently waiting to see what the R5 Mark II is like and it could be tempting time to change if the specs are good

I myself, too, am a Nikon shooter, just in that that is the one I prefer using Nikon for years, I just know how it works but also just gives me the user experience, I want, with Sony and Olympus coming in second. That 24-200mm never leaves the camera as it is a great all-in-one zoom for hiking with 90% of the sharpness versus the other S Line lenses. Like you said everyone makes a great camera now but for landscape, in my opinion, you can beat Nikon for the value, even their newer models.

Sold my D810, my D7500, other stuff too, bought a Z7, brilliant piece of kit, ftz adapter to use my F mount lenses. My Nikkor F/1.8, 20mm, it's brilliant on the Z7. I've now bought a Z6 because of its 13fps, this is to replace my D5 that with the Sigma 60-600mm attached weighs about the same as the moon. The D5 with its insane buffer and 12 fps is brilliant for wildlife. At this time, with the Z6 and an ftz attached to use the Sigma lens with it, I can't get along with it. Everything is soft, not exactly blurry, but not pin sharp either. Sigma have listed this lens as being compatible with the ftz on Z mounts. It's still super fast, but the imaging I can only put down to the adapter. I only got the Z6 yesterday, so still playing. If I compare my 20MP D5 with that big lens with the Z6 at 24 MP, there's no comparison , the D5 wins every time. The reason I bought the Z7 was because of your videos. So pleased with it. Amazing bit of kit. Now, because of the Z7ii and the Z6ii, the arrival of the Z8 and if you win the lottery, the Z9, the original Z6 and Z7 are now dropping in price on the second hand market.

Interesting that point 2 about the Z7 was the weatherproofing as one of the main issues putting me off any iteration of the Z7 or Z6 is the great big hole when switching lenses. Stumbled on this video as 2025 is round the corner, and find your considerations remain current. Looking for a "like new" Z7 or Z7II at the moment after selling mine just over a year ago to purchase the Zf. I regret that move even if the Zf is a lovely piece of gear. I want my 45MP back and its cropping flexibility, and I cannot fork out for a Z8. Regarding lenses, I am a prime guy and a sucker for best possible IQ, hence the three Voigtlander APO lenses I own. Which are a pain to carry and swap around while hiking. I do not think I could ever be content with the 24-200: your zoomed in black and white pic of the woman on the beach kind of proves why, and I am surprised that, as a landscaper, you can settle for such lack of detail (when zoomed in or viewed close by a big print). For me, the 24-70 f/2.8 and the Plena might be the ideal zoom-based combination.

Good video Henry just thinking of changing my Sony 6600 as it is not comfortable to hold for me and was considering the Nikon Z7 or the canon r6 for my landscape photography, great photos again 😊

Got a cannon 250d comes with 18,55 lens so easy to work can still get good enough pictures with that lens

I currently have a D7200 and was seriously contemplating switching to a Canon R6 II until I watched this video! Want a more compact set up with IBIS so I don't have to rely on a tripod so much. Now thinking about the Z6II instead...

I'm still shooting my D200 , D300 ,D5200. I'm no pro but seems to do everything I need.

I got a kick out of this video as I mostly use a Z7 with a 24-200 when shooting landscapes. Looking forward to the Z7III coming out this year if the rumors are true.

Another awesome video. Thank You for all you do and all of your advise. I know for me, I love my Z6ii as it just gives me everything I want in my larger camera. I also have the OM 5 for my quick on the go camera. I wanted to check and see if you have any updates on the repair for that one you have. I will be using it this weekend over the holiday weekend. Again, thanks again Henry!!!

The other great thing about the Nikon Z system is Nikon brought out the adapter ring for the older lenses.

A weather sealed body is not weather sealed if your lenses are not also weather sealed.

Hi Henry, another grand day out and thanks for sharing. I'm a D3500 user in the "cheap seats" and to be fair never thought I'd be able to aspire to a Z7 .. semingly one day I might, particualrly if the version 3 of the Z6/Z7 comes along soon as that ought to push the original Z7s down in price just a little further. An original Z7 will be perceived by some as "old hat", but it'd be a massive step forward to me. FYI I bought a 35mm F1.8 DX lens from MPB recently as my "dipping a toe" into 2nd hand kit and honestly I coudn't fault them. The lens was advertised as excellent condition, and I'd have said it was like new, so no complaints from me. All I need now is a bit of a lottery win ;-) Incidentally, what's the story on the wounded OM5 and lens - hopefully views on the advent series might help to fund the repairs.

Where in North-Wales is that? First I thought the beach of Dinas Dinlle, but these dunes...perhaps near Harlech? And I´m using a Z5 (not make any videos) and a Z50 with the 50-250mm Zoom. And some Viltrox lenses for portrait/boudoir and such stuff.

Hi Henry, in one of your videos a short while ago you bought an Olympus as a lighter weight option. Have stopped using that?

Having only (quality) nikon dslr lenses, I am torn whether to upgrade my D750 to a used D850 dslr (having the same image quality as a Z7, fantastic) or a used Z7 considering it has in-body image stabilisation. I'm sure the autofocus is fast and accurate with both models. I only have a couple of screw drive af lenses and so would keep my D750 for them.

Why is the lcd and viewfinder on my zed7ii so fuzzy during super low light? Is it because of the ASA? My Zed6 doesn't do that.

I'm debating if I should go for the used Z7 or a7r3. They are roughly 1100USD in HK. I'm trying to avoid Sony as their old models tends to have inaccurate Auto-WB+terrible jpeg. Is Z7's AF tracking becomes much better after the firmware update?

If budget is a serious consideration - and it was in my case - a good used DSLR and lens(es) could be the answer. I made the step up from point-and-shoots to a Nikon D7000 almost 5 years ago and my entire kit (camera, 35mm prime lens, 55-300mm zoon lens, tripod, camera bag, speed-light, shutter remote, filters) cost me less than I can get a used Z7 body for. That means more money for fuel and travel - AND a camera that performs solidly and produces quality images. Thanks, as always for the content. Try not to burn yourself out on this Advent Blitz. :)
