Nikon Zf + Nikkor Z 26mm | Image Quality & Shooting Experience

In this video here now I show lots of sample images shot with the Nikon Zf and the Nikkor Z 26mm f/2.8 Pancake lens. This camera-lens combo is so good that I can fully recommend it for travel, street and reportage photography. I did my shooting in Singapore where I was on travel with that Nikon Z camera-lens combo.

I always chuckle when folks claim that the Zf is unsuitable for professional work. It really depends upon what "kind" of professional work one does. For many types, the Zf is more than sufficient. Put the Zf up against Nikon's last pro DSLR, the D6. Aside from twin CFExpress/XQD card slots, and a more robust body, the Zf wins on almost every other metric that really matters. We've come a long way with this technology and I would pick up the Zf over the D6 for pretty much any professional shoot right now. And I love "focus point sensor stabilization" and full AF tracking assistance even in fully manual focus mode, which is the best implementation of manual focus yet for mirrorless. And both are firsts. And on a side note: I think the Zf might be the only camera right now using real brass dials on the top deck. I don't even think Leica is doing that on the M series anymore. Now we just need some compact AI-s retro-styled primes from Nikon that suit the aesthetic of the Zf (and what follows it). Perhaps a 24, 35, 50 and 105 series around f/2.5-f/2.8 to keep them small. But make them 'S' series lenses with top notch optics, a metal bayonet mount, and proper weather sealing.

Thanks for yet another great video especially about the Nikon Zf camera which I just purchased. When I first began watching your slide show of Singapore I was struck by the lack of people milling about then I learned that it was early in the. morning. What a beautiful city !! I have also become interested in astro photography so I am going to purchase the Z mount Viltrox 16mm 1.8 AF lens if there are any left on the shelf. Great video. I just ordered the 26mm lens two days ago for my Zf. I can't wait to try it. It is currently on sale in the USA. The regular price for a new one is $496.95 USD and is discounted by $100 USD. If anyone is interested in buying this lens in the US, now is the time to buy it.

The body of all three lenses is carefully designed to be dust and drop proof for increased reliability, and all three lenses do not guarantee complete dust and drop protection in all situations and conditions - as stated in the specifications for each lens on the official website. Thus, The NIKKOR Z 26mm f/2.8 lens has no advantages in terms of protection against splashes, everything you show in the video is not a fact, but just your opinion. There is no doubt about the optical quality of the NIKKOR Z 26MM F/2.8, but it also costs almost twice as much as comparable lenses. There is no doubt that the 40/2.0 SE and 28/2.8SE lenses are excellent lenses for every day and considering their cost, the quality of the resulting images is at a more than decent level.

Thanks very much. I really enjoyed seeing how well the Zf 24 megapixel did, both native and with pixel shift. Do you know how Nikon's approach to pixel shift in the Zf, Z8 and now Z6iii compare to Sony pixel shift? Did you always use the maximum sampling? Did you assemble the pixel shift images in NX Studio and then further process in other software? I am tempted by the Zf and Z6iii, but with experience I have fewer and fewer complaints about my 2017 Z7. Like you said at the end, upgrading my own abilities is really the quest I am on. This was another inspiring video from you!!!

Thank you very much. I think the older generation Sonys had flaws in pixel shift multishot, the newer like my Sony A7RV work very well now. Multishot on the Zf works flawless, I had no problems or issues at all.

I like my ZF quite a lot, so far I shoot my Sony lenses on twitch ETZ adapter, did not get any Z lenses yet. They work great. Yet mostly I have my 35mm Voigtländer 1.4 on it. Just awesome :)

Superb images thank you! I also dind't have any problems shooting in Berlin with the 26mm and the ZF. The Black and White edits are superb. I struggled a bit with the Voigtländer 75mm 1.5 Z version, but than was probably user error, I did not limit the minimum Shutter Speed to 1/100 or something in Aperture Priority, the camera chose 1/15 and I got blurry images. Next time I will do better.

The ZF also allows you to shoot in manual with eye detect. Very cool….. use Voigtlander z lens or Nikon F lens with adapter. I tried my 50mm AIS 1.2 on it ….. wonderful…. How would you compare this to SL2-S?

I brought Z26mm lens this week. After my 2 days shooting, I find this lens is very good which is S line quality. But miss S line logo.

Its indeed not an S-line lens but equally good. And super compact. And weather-sealed. I also think that 26mm is a very nice focal length with an attractive Field of View.

Fun Fact: The Leica Q2 or 3 is pretending to have a 28mm lens, however it is more like a 26.2 mm. So now you got the same setup but more beautiful and more capable.

Hello Sir, is Hasselblad X2D better than Fuji GFX 100 II ? Also which has best lens for medium format?

In terms of lenses both camera systems are at par, means, its a matter of taste what you go for. In terms of features, in particular autofocus tracking, the Fuji GFX100 II is better without any doubt. Focus tracking, video capabilities up to 8K, all these features are not implemented in the Hasselblad X-system. Having said that, a lot of Hassy shooters swear on the Hasselblad Natural Color Solution for color science. This is indeed something that Hasselblad does very very well. Fuji in contrast offers about 20 film simulations, and here Fuji is really good.

Comparable and equally good. Choice depends on your preferences in terms of workflow and shooting experience as well as color science.

The 26mm 2.8 Z is much better quality then the 40mm F2 Z or the 28mm 2.8 Z. Better in build quality, but also Image Quality. The IQ is very sharp and contrasty. And it is even more compact than the two other lenses. It is probably the best AF pancake anyone has ever made. Comparisons with huge S line Primes should not matter, those are brilliant but huge and far more expensive lenses. This is a great lens for street and travel.

@@mathphotographer oh just I choose to venture but end up facing unexpected challenges even I planned before I started, I waste few years of my youth having financial difficulty and health problem from didn't sleep well and eat well, right now I try my best to heal and have some logo design freelance work to save up to gear up to continue to work on my project and hopefully I can achieve it this time, if not, I will then move on to next plans but the main goal right now is heal up and able to do things, I need a hard drive because I don't have space to do things, I need a lot but a hard drive is the most important things right now, if you know anyone need a logo or something that I can do as a freelancer, if there is music people who like to explore good hidden multiple languages and genres of good song, I can share some too! By the way, I live in johor, next to Singapore, it's been long since I visit Singapore, I plan to work at there after my plan but stuck for now.
