Yes. Having had one for a year now, I’m delighted with the way it works with my old retro lenses as well as my DSLR lenses (with adapter). As a Fuji user, please remember when doing your Z fc vs X-T4 comparison, that the Nikon Z fc is set to compete in the same category as the Fujifilm X-T30 and Sony a6400, both in price, features and build quality. It never was ment to compete for sale against a camera like the X-T4. Don't be afraid of the dials on the Z fc, they are made of solid carved aluminum dials with engraved markings. The body is made of a magnesium alloy (except for back and bottom plate which are plastic). Guess they had to make some compromises to keep the price down.
@PeteCocoPhoto2 жыл бұрын
Hi Hans, yes this is a valid point. I will be kind when I do the comparison. As I said in the video, overall I think the Zfc is a great camera. I don't think it's for the typical Fuji shooter though, or someone who really wants to invest in a retro functioning system. Thanks for watching and for the insightful comment!

I bought the Z fc because it rectifies most of what I had to criticise about the Z 50, mainly the sub-par autofocus performance in low-light conditions and the absence of an eye-tracking mode when shooting videos. I haven't had any intention to go FX ("full frame" for non-Nikon photographers) because I want a small, light and compact system that doesn't weigh me down when I'm on the go. I neither bought it because of its retro style nor despite it, I just couldn't care less. I miss the the two or three user setting memories that the other Z cameras feature but like the separate settings for almost everything for photo and video shooting. While I agreee that the 16-50 mm kit lens is quite slow and the variable aperture wide open is a bit of a nuisance, I have to state that the picture quality it delivers is surprisingly good, as are the results you get from the 50-250 mm tele kit lens. I've had quite a lot of fun with my Z fc kit and don't regret the purchase.
@PeteCocoPhoto2 жыл бұрын
Great points, Eric. Thanks! I agree the kit lenses are very good quality, I usually prefer prime lenses so I'm a bit biased there too. Even shooting a straight 2.8 zoom lens in low light I find to be too slow for me. You hit the nail on the head - it's fun, the quality is great, and people won't regret the purchase!

I am a sport photographer and have used Nikon for years and own some expensive lens and bodies such as 400 2.8, Z9. . A month ago,. I purchased a Z fc and love it. I use it without worrying if the Nikon company will go broke because they totally missed their target market by using the wrong flippy screen. Unlike you, it passes my "nostalgia test" so its a good thing you borrowed one for a couple days and didn't purchase it. Nikon listened to your channel as they came out with a totally black body, impressive. My advice to you is to return the Z fc to your friend and move on to a camera with substance for your style of shooting and get on with taking photos and having fun. There is no reason to be burdened by the finances of these camera companies.

In the 1970's I lived in Canberra and I purchased a Nikon Ftn & the Zfc is very much like it in looks. My 35m Ftn enabled me to work with Sydney John Photography & I covered dozens of weddings with just the one camera, one lens & a spare battery. The Nikon fc is capable of doing all of those things & I find it so easy to use. I prefer to set my own ISO as it was called but it's a shame to have to go into the menu to access auto. A beautiful camera, inside & out & easy to carry around all day. I didn't buy the kit lens for the reasons stated, but I did buy the lens adapter. A little on the heavy side, but you soon get used to that. Love the Nikon fc.
@ipswich988 ай бұрын
The 'f' stands for fusion. It's exactly what Nikon did. Don't expect the Z fc to feel exactly like the FM2 , it only looks similar and that's where all the similarities ends. I know this because I still own and use an FM body. My main reason for purchasing the Z fc was its retro looks. For its price range I think it's well made and Nikon did well to include the same AF system as its higher end Z bodies. Yes the bottom plastic plate feels flimsy but once you attach a grip "SmallRig has a nice one" this is no longer an issue. Why do you say the dials are cheap? They're all machined from solid aluminium and firmly attached to an equally well made metal top plate also attached to a skeleton forged from magnesium alloy. I've owned quite a few mirrorless cameras and the contrast deference between the screen & EVF at this price range is common to most manufacturers. As to the flippy screen, most reviewers would have complained if it didn't have one. I've now learned to take each reviews with a pinch of salt. At least your review is not as negative as the one from PetaPixel. I like my Z-fc. To a lot of photographers used to bodies with a beefy grip, it will take them some time to get used to the ergonomics of this Z-fc. To keep that retro look, I totally understand why Nikon did not add a grip to the body. Give this camera a try if you're a nostalgic nerd like me. You will be amazed with the results achieved both for stills & video. BTW, I'm mostly a Canon shooter so my comments are based on the merits of this camera and nothing to do with the manufacturer 🙂

very interesting points, I agree for the most part, but the screen HAS to be like this, other wise it would be a Z50 and it is a Swiss Army knife, good for everything, great for nothing! that is what the Z Fc is made to be. THe lenses well I think all are like this, no aperture ring and many kit lenses close and open before being ready to be use.... over all I like it! I did not had a FM2 but I did had a FM10 and I like what I see. Last, this camera is also the path to the Z cameras and lenses, I have a D7500 and I love it, one thing, VIDEO, the video is less than average but the Z Fc is much better and the flip forward screen is much better option and the video features are ideal for me. Thanks for the video, very well put together, and I will seach for the XT4 vs Z Fc!! I am a new subscriber!

how to set up delay shooting + shutter speed at 30 seconds? This is a standard feature on Samsung phone, but I am unable to find any tutorial involving Nikon Z fc. Neither of the two modes provide an internal timer, and the presure from finger could bring unwanted shake.

An affiliate link is not a "kickback," it's a commission. Most product reviewers on KZbin have affiliate links, that's what helps them spend tons of time, energy, and money on providing reviews. And many of the top camera reviewers (not me) actually get gear directly from Nikon, Canon, Sony, etc., to review as well. Does this mean they are dishonest? I guess you could assume so but that's completely up to you. For me specifically, this channel is really a labor of love, and certainly not a career. If someone likes my review and clicks on a link, that's totally cool with me of course, but again, it doesn't affect how I comment on the gear. Hey, if you don't like my reviews and think I'm not doing a good job, there are thousands of other channels you can watch.

If you want the true retro experience, buy an FM2. The Zfc is a toy...not a professional tool. The FM2 is a legendary SLR. The Zfc is a soon to be forgotten digital product...and a bit naff

To each his own my friend! I have a Nikon F Photomic and use it often.

How is the Zfc a toy? Because other clickbait youtubers told you? It has aluminum dials, mild weather sealing, the same Nikon 20mp crop sensor as in the D500, and the same processor as the Z6 and autofocus system as the Z6/Z7 II. It can even autofocus down to -4.5 EV. Record in uncropped 4K. You should research before just dismissing it.

This camera and Fujis various models would benefit from the ingenious designed screen from the Fujifilm XT100 offering both flip for vloggers and selfie shooters and the tilt for stills photographers. I can’t understand why Fujifilm are not using it on all the cameras they have released since the XT100 body!
