As this video continues to get views, I would like to add a point of clarification. In order to get live streaming from the HDMI in full screen 1080i resolution BOTH "HDMI Output 1080i" AND "HDMI Output 1080i Full Screen" must be selected. My assumption (which proved wrong) was that only one of these selections were possible. With both selected the resolution is set to 1080i and the output frame is extended to "FullScreen." ========UPDATE============ This information is now out of date. The two options have been merged into 1 as per Simeon Pilgrim.

Sorry, I'm a newbie user of DSLR and I don't have any idea how to use this but i want to use this for my livestream, Thanks in advance.

Mary Jea, the camera has a mini hdmi female slot under the rubber cover. If you download the manual from Nikon they will show you the location of that port. Buy an a cable of appropriate length with a standard hdmi male on one end and an hdmi mini male hdmi on the other end. If you have a video capture card in your desktop computer or usb video capture device connected to your laptop you should be able to make the connection. Have fun!

super glad you got it sorted, sorry that I was lazy, and didn't merge the two patches into one patch. my bad.
@JohnBrown-CRSI9 жыл бұрын
Simeon Pilgrim I was so happy to figure that out! So often my assumptions are completely different than those of programmer (especiall MS programmers!) Counterintuitive computing. Perhaps a note in the page describing the settings would be in order for other myopic users like me. By the way, I contemplated using a Cam Ranger with a pivoting base to remotely control and aim the Nikon D5100. However, their tech support told me that Nikon disables HDMI output if anything is plugged into the USB port (which CR uses) on the camera. Given your superior knowledge of the firmware do you think this is an arbitrary decision (which has potential to be overridden by NH firmware?) Or, is there a technical reason why USB control of camera and HDMI must remain mutually exclusive? It would be really cool to be able to pan the camera and change focus from across the room while live streaming.
@SimeonPilgrim9 жыл бұрын
John Brown I can override the HDMI/USB on my D7000, so it is "workable", but there are some issues in how it's tricked that escape me presently. Also I haven't tested much so there could be gotchas. It's for reasons like this that the HMDI video patches where posted separate, to help point the finger if there where issues, but it just cause hassles.

@@JohnBrown-CRSI thanks for your answer. Yes I already saw these devices and I will buy one a.s.a.p. Now I'm streaming on Twitch using my Reflex connected to my pc directly with the USB but the resolution is very low (640x*** I don't remember). The reason of this low resolution is the connection with the USB cable, right? Using the HDMI and the capture device (and also your hack?) I should obtain an higher resolution?
@JohnBrown-CRSI4 жыл бұрын
@@StefanoSpritz can’t think of any way the cable would change (reduce) resolution. I’d carefully review the camera’s manual to see if there is a control to set streaming resolution. Your point about speed of transfer is a valid one as usb has progressed through multiple versions each with different throughput. But if you are simply connecting a cable between camera and pc there wouldn’t be any intermediate software to modify the resolution (in my opinion).
@StefanoSpritz4 жыл бұрын
@@JohnBrown-CRSI I’ll review the manual, for sure. Maybe it could be the program I’m using to transfer the video from the reflex to OBS... I don’t know 🤔 With the video usb video capture card definitely I would solve. Thanks for your precious advices!

@Sabahat Ullah - If you were to look through "live view" before hacking the firmware, you would see 4 tiny white lines near the corners which are indicators of where "movie" mode would crop the image to produce a 16:9 aspect ratio. Still photography on the Nikon results in 3:2 aspect ratio. You'll want to crop the image in your capture software (OBS?, Wirecast, etc.)

In 720p that is not a problem. I just wonder what could be the reason for this behavior, the HDMI cable but only in 1080p or is it the camera which can't probably output a FULL HD (only Interlaced) signal and therefore feeds an image with atefacts?

@JohnBrown-CRSI8 жыл бұрын
eNeru, I noted the breathless concern of so many on various forum sites claiming that disabling the 20 minute limit would result in overheating and failure of the camera. I further noted that no one seemed ever to say that they had actually experienced such a failure. Given that the 20 minute limit was predicated on European tariff rules (over 20 minutes and the device is categorized as a motion picture camera with higher tariffs), I decided to risk it. I've not experienced any problems. Admittedly, I'm taking a risk, but I'm willing to do so. My camera is a second hand D5100 I bought on eBay so there is limited down side. If I do manage to burn it out, I'll be sure to post a statement to that effect on various online forums as "proof of the rumor".
