Great content ! As a git from TTUN i think every major program is in a homding pattern until all this makes sense. But inagree overleveraging to get unproven talent is a bad business model.that cant be sustained.

Thanks man! I don't like the idea of using the portal to recruit over your previous classes. In small doses, yes, 8,9,10 guys a class and that easily creates distrust with coaches and bitterness in the locker room.

I hate to say it, but you're right. Michigan has dropped the ball, no pun intended, on NIL. That's also an excellent point on NIL being the wild west right now. NIL is here and the league will spend the next few years sorting it out.
@BuckeyesBattleCry5 ай бұрын
Precisely Cliff! I believe regulation amd oversight will becoming, perhaps even salaries. A whole new era we're in and it's not foe the fair of heart for coaches who ar hold school and just like coaching and recruiting. I don't envy them!

Michigan AD wants donors to feed into Michigan and not the NIL. He needs to be replaced in order for things to change. Not sure if that is good or bad as Michigan has trained their way out of NIL in the past few years. That said, buying a bunch of players with NIL can create a culture of greed, cynicism, and calculation--like I am not going to out there and hit hardest when I got money on the line in terms of health. Think about it. If you are earning big NIL money and you get injured--yep--that's going to go. The image will come before the play.

I would not put it past the IRS to tax those scholarships, benefits received, food, the stipend as INCOME. If the college player wants to be a big boy and wants to get paid, then there is another line item to that spread sheet. Taxable income and benefits. NIL is 100% taxable. Does the scholarship, training, food become taxable? If they are now "contractors" vs amateurs then food, housing, training is a benefit and is taxable as it is part of their pay. That dealer car? Taxable. Uptown condo? Taxable. Gifts? Taxable Don't forget to put aside 13% for SS on top of about half for state/fed/local taxes.
@BuckeyesBattleCry5 ай бұрын
Oh they're definitely getting taxed, IRS ain't gonna let that slide. I think anything is up for being taxed in the near future. It's a whole new world we're in and I'm not liking the direction of my beloved college football.

If Ohio State win the natty this year they will get an asterisk for having a team that was bought and paid for

All above board and legal and how things are done now. Our 13 draft eligible players all came back to beat UM, win the Big Ten, and play for a natty!

Have fun trying to play all those pre maddonas. You got all those skill positions but none of the positions that matter. O-line and D-line. Until you all get that squared away, get used to losing to equally talented teams or teams that have better lines than you.

Addressing those pressing needs in recruiting, we Buckeye fans believe, just won't be done under ou4 current OL coach Frye. You raise some crucial points that, Rob and I, on this channel, are certainly concerned about.

OSU's D line is elite. The second best in the country to UM The OL looks meh. The QB looks meh. So, about what they had last year only older, no MHjr and I think, they got worse at QB. OSU has to have a scape goat for a loss to UM and they threw their QB under the bus. McCord is better than anyone on that team currently.
@edandra6155 ай бұрын
no one made McCord the scapegoat, he wanted to be guaranteed the starting job, and Day wouldn't guarantee it.

Michigan fan/alum here. I'm getting somewhat turned off now by CFB. It's morphed into a professional minor league. The regional charm of the sport is gone. Some argue with the portal and new open transfer rules the playing field has been leveled somewhat between the have and have-not schools. I don't buy it. The rich keep getting richer. As for UM vs OSU in '24....too early to give it much thought. And does it even deserve much thought anymore? It's just another game pretty much moving forward perhaps more similar to the Browns-Steelers or Lions-Packers "rivalries". They'll likely move the game to earlier in the season soon too. I'm old. Get off my yard. CFB was better 30 years ago.
@BuckeyesBattleCry5 ай бұрын
You're not alone in that feeling! It's not the same even from my youth. The regionalism, traditions, and rivalries have been abandoned for the Almighty dollar, and its sickening. I heard talk on sports radio, just today, about the G5 conferences forming their own playoffs and division, and the Big Ten/SEC breaking off and having their own playoff. The beautiful things that made the game great have been stripped away amd it's taking a toll on my fanhood as well!
