you can change the name of the groups by pressing ctrl+enter, then the name will be changed everywhere

If you control click the confirm button when changing the group name it actually changes it globally, solving the problem you mentioned at the end

I think ships can use one more logistics group called ‘extra exports’. If for example there are two planets that need the max amount of blue circuits, it would be good to load up with extra circuits instead of flying to one planet, getting an interrupt and move back and then supply the other planet. If you add blue circuits to the the ‘extra exports’ group this will make sure the ship loads up with more, but the planets just ask the normal amount

I would guess it takes in the logistics network multiplies it with -1 and then add that to the request. So for example we have a request of 200 science and we already have 100 science in the logistics network 200 + 100*-1 = 100 So only 100 get requested from the ship and if we already had 300 science it would be -100 and no requests will be made

Tested it myself and it is a good idea to remove all negative numbers before you multiply it with -1 since otherwise construction requests might also be added

Strangely, I like the import approach to space logistics, rather than the export system you described. I have a ship hovering above Nauvis, and importing everything it would want from other planets. Ground circuitry is set up to request items in the import list if there’s not enough in the logistics network. On the ship I have 3 interrupts, one for each of the other planet, set to “any planet import zero -> go to that planet and wait until all requests are satisfied”. I also have a similar ship for Gleba imports, and am working on setting one up for Vulcanus.

This is how I've done it too. I don't understand why Nilaus keeps complaining about the ice cream truck approach that he uses, and saying that there's no better way, when this clearly better way to do things exists, and people have told him about it, but he just keeps ignoring them.

@@cainau might be reading a bit far into it mate. He's using a compositional technique, which supports import-only just as well. The ice cream truck run requires the least setup compared to point-to-point, especially considering the lack of circuit control or drop/reservation limits. I don't think the specific logistic groups (for import/export) are the point of this video.

@@tukib_ You're missing the point. There is a feature of the interplanetary logistics that makes import based logistics much better than export based. Nilaus has commented, on stream, if not also in one of the KZbin videos, about not liking that he "has to" do it the way he does because the game doesn't have a better way to do it, while completely ignoring the feature that does exist to do it in a better way.

I've switched to import ships. One for each inner planet. They only ever unload at the import planet, and they visit all the others in a loop, Gleba is always last before the import planet. For Nauvis import this loop goes Vulcanus, Gleba, Nauvis, Fulgora, Gleba, Nauvis. So far this seems to be working very well. I like that the request group on the planets are exactly the same as the ships use.

I had this same thought -- instead of an "export" ship, why not swap it to an "import" ship for each planet that goes out to the others & gets what it needs & comes back? I'm still super new at this game though haha, so idk if there were other downsides I'm not seeing.

The only one I don't get is Nebuchadnezzar (assuming the Canterbury is also a The Expanse reference), so where's he from? I know he's an ancient Babylonian king, but that's probably not the reason Nilaus picked that name.

I prefer to have a dedicated bioflux transport, and specific transports for each science. That way if I'm not using a particular type, it just sits in orbit for a while at Nauvis until it actually needs to fill those requests and empties out, then makes a trip back to whichever planet it came from. I think that will scale better, anyway. And spoilage is kept to a minimum. Thanks for explaining the interrupt conditions. I was pretty sure there was a good way to set something like that up. I ended up doing mine with a couple circuits, because I had no idea what the various settings were and never had the time to experiment and discover it. Really wish they'd document those better with some tooltips.

Fun fact. With a yellow inserter you can chain feed ammo between turrets. Best used at the front of a U shaped craft. The arms of the U get four turrets per arm. Each arm gets two grabby things so as you travel you get the maximum pick up coverage while moving. You only need 360° coverage if you plan to wait a while. I just have minimal coverage at the bottom of the ship and it works fine. Not sure if it's enough? Put a laser turret in the middle of your ship. If it ever goes off you need more ammo turrets as you shouldn't count on a laser point defense until you have infinite tech to compensate lol

I have all mine set with this logic ((all requests and 60 seconds wait) or 5 minute wait). Since I'd rather keep a ship moving with reduced inventory than having it sit over a single planet waiting for requests. There is another thing I noticed is it seems like if rockets are actively launching to a platform, the platform won't start moving until all rockets have landed. If you are building rockets fast enough there can just be a continual stream of rockets and the platform essentially gets stuck even if all other conditions to move on have been met. Normally this would be considered good behavior but definitely a problem for large haulers handling goods that can spoil.

Yeah, i tried to use radar's for it, but i found out it's scope is only 1 planet. Maybe they should make something with quantum chips that you unlock a real global network (as that wont be limited by the speed of light)

Honestly, I'd make a dedicated Gleba science ship at least, possibly one for all of them. Gleba is on a clock which means it should get used ASAP.

I’m not sure you explained the circuit logic on the planet in this video? It looks like it was only showing how to set the constant combinator. I’m not sure it’d be possible for someone unfamiliar with circuits to replicate this set up from this video themselves.

I think its the following: red wire from Constant to Arithmetic Input , green wire from roboport (read contents) to Arithmetic Input. Arithmetic has a green wire from its output to the input of the decider combinator, and the decider has an output to the landing pad. Arithmetic's left input is set to Red only, Each, MINUS Green only, Each, with an output of Each. the decider combinator is set to Green each, > 0 with an output of each. Hope that helps.

logic of the setup: "get a list of all of 'this stuff'. from that list, subtract a list of everything in the roboport network. Of this new list, remove anything that is a negative value (though the decider combinator seems redundant since removal of negative values seems to be default in landing pads)

@@DynamicSystem He has it in the space blueprints now, but it seems to throw other logistic request signals onto the landing pad's requests (like 'my' version does) unless you add an arithmetic combinator after the decider that takes the deciders output and a new red wire from the constant combinator that is set up as Green Each And Red Each Output Each. That effectively filters the list to only include items that appear on the constant combinator (and are needed of course)

At this stage you should consider a space factory and make it super wide for asteroid collection while moving, this will allow you to send iron, copper, carbon and water products in near infinite amounts to any planet that you can't be arsed to place production on. Also, space production is fun, working around not having logistics bots could be a nice challange for late game production.

It's the same logic used for a sushi belt, just instead of reading from the belt you read from the logistic network, and you attach the output to the landing pad and set it to "set requests". He explains the combinator logic for it around 19:00.

Perhaps the ships should request x2 or x3 of their export group, so that the ship has enough to top off multiple planets.

If it's going from planet to planet chances are it'll be dropping off items that are far less than a stack, so a 50 item stack might be requesting 9 to top it up to max, so it drops those 9. Probably rare you'll need to go beyond it if it's moving regularly unless you're mass building, in which case you probably wouldn't want such an in demand item on an all-around import ship

making the grabbers insert directly on the sushi belt can fix the too many items on the belt. and you also get ammo everywhere too, so less inserter turret chains.

wont requesting everything on every planet empty the ship completly at the first stop? i remember in one of your previous videos you did a *-1 on everything you have, but not in this video. btw thanks for the videos, space age is a complex game and it really helps me alot

This made me realise that if you have enough cargo storage space you actually need just one "ice cream truck" ship. It visits every planet and gives them what they need and takes what they have, then goes to the next.

Wont the bioflux spoil after 2 hours, then more will be requested, then spoil, and more will be requested, and loop until your cargo hold is full? You may need to handle the spoilage dropping back onto Gleba or something.

Hey Nilaus, I don’t know if you’ve talked about this on stream or maybe in an episode that I haven’t seen - but it is much much cheaper to ship the materials to make certain items rather than shipping the actual item, robots for instance, are 2-3x more expensive to ship pre-made

In terms of rocket launches per finished robot at your destination, you are correct. But for CARGO slots, you're wrong. In the beginning, when you don't have access to large ships with tons of cargo and want to ship LOTS of different things to each new planet, each cargo slot is valuable..I took it to the extreme and put an AM3 on my ships to CRAFT silos....in a 3x3 tile space (less than a cargo bay) i could STORE 2 silos + 50some stacks worth of ingredients vs the cargo bay's 10 slots of inventory. When you have the cargo space for it, don't care about the quality of the robots being sent, yes, it's more efficient rocket-launch-cost wise, to send up the ingredients needed to craft robots rather than sending up the robots themselves, but you'll use more cargo.

Fulgora, as an example, REALLY benefits from having higher quality robots. They're able to cross oil oceans rather easily. Though you should still be careful about joining up the logistic networks between islands until after you've protected the bits they'll be crossing (not that hard once you get the rare-quality lightning collectors, and trivial once you've researched foundations)

wouldn't it make sense to add to the interrupt condition also the circuit condition with the 3 green squares? otherwise you might risk getting interrupted when low on fuel or ammo

Hey Nialus, in regards to the logistics groups. Holding Control then pressing E to confirm will change ALL logistics groups with that name. It's weird that it's not default, but if you hover over the green confirm arrow it tells you this information

How can you make rocket delivery from a planet prioritise a space platform? I have a situation where 2 platforms are requesting from a planet and one of them (the same one every time) takes priority and gets all deliveries while the other one gets nothing until the first one leaves

Might it be possibel, if you want more buffer/storage in orbit, but don't want that much delivered to one planet, you can scale the logistics group by, for example dividing it by 4 before, before requesting it on that specific planet?

1) use Ctrl+Enter when changing the name of a group if you want it to change the name everywhere. 2) For logistic group naming, use the planet symbols ONLY(and always) for groups assigned within / used in the ships' main platform hubs and each of the planet's hub. that way, you don't have many places to look/check/verify after making such a change. (Or you could just delete the group from the group-selection window and then go around and assign the newly-named group as needed. ^^haven't actually had a need to test what happens when you delete a group that's assigned somewhere else. Does it remove the group from all assigned locations or do those locations simply switch to unnamed/unlinkable groups?

i noticed that in this video you change the name of all your space platforms, and i was curious how you managed to get those arrows you use in their names. All i can find is the arrow symbols in the icon thing where you can give them planet symbols etc. how did you do those arrows? they look really neat

We needed this, I love Wube but they did a goddam TERRIBLE job explaining how to set up space platform hauling. I kinda think I get the hang of it and have set it up correctly but then a platform gets backed up with stacks of a random item, or your requests don't trigger. I don't know why they didn't create an all-in-one interface

My question: the case that you made in the video, where your Vulcanus export ship were in Fulgora and then trigger the ressuply interupt, he randomly choose Nauvis or Gleba to go for Vulcanus? and when it arrive Nauvis/Gleba it will wait until the "Flight check" (green signal) to become "3" before leave to vulcanus to ressuply or will instantly travel to Vulcanus?

@@Nilaus My ship is about the size of your Frigate, in terms of storage. With limiting my velocity to 200 I can perpetually travel, so 30s stop at each planet makes my round trip about 6-10mins (if including aquillo). But in general, I'm requesting about 1-2k of most main resources (4x on ships) with no storage issue.

How do you make sure the space platform doesn't fill up more than it needs, but also doesn't dump the excess on the planet? like it still have some items but then it requests whole stack

You do that by summing up the required slots of all your requests and keeping it below the slot total. Another measure is to set upper limits in the configuration of each request (i.e. each item in a logistic group) - this is where you configure how many of a certain item you want. To the left is the input field for the required quantity - a rocket is triggered if there's less than that number in the cargo. This number gets added with those of other logistic groups of the same item type, and rounded up towards the rocket capacity for that item type - except if you define a "custom minimum payload". To the right is a second input field which defaults to "inf." and defines an upper limit of how many items of that type to hold in cargo. Excess items over that limit get automatically moved to the orbital drop slots, so they arrive at any planet's cargo landing pad. So basically, since you want to avoid those dropoffs, your upper limits for each requested item type should be at least the requested amount + one rocket capacity of that item type. Also use that value when calculating whether your cargo is big enough for all your requests. Also, you should configure item requests which are integer multiples of that item's rocket capacity. Example: green circuits have a rocket capacity of 2000, so when you request them you request 2000*x (choose any integer x that fits your needs) and (optionally) set an upper limit of 2000*(x+1). Regarding cargo size you would reserve 2000*(x+1)/200 cargo slots for them.

Can someone give me a quick rundown on how to set up the circuits to make sure my ship leaves after full and ammo is at a certain level?

First you need to connect the belts to the hub and in the belt you need select READ BELTS CONTENTS and then select Hold All Belts (it will hightlight all the belts that are counted. Splitters break the belts apart in regards to items count). Connect the belt read to the Hub with green cable and then in the hub add a Circuit condition where you read the ammo value and set that this circuit condition is true if you have more than x ammo.

I Try this way of hauling and have issue with the restock interupt true is I have problem with all interupts at my ships. The interupt is triggered but even if all condition are satisfied the interupt do not end and the ship do not continue to the next stop. Do anyone know the sollution?

Without that interrupt, wouldn't you just run out of something and hover over a planet forever? Like Electro plants run out over Vulcanus, so it just stays there because requests aren't fulfilled?

Requests have an "import from planet X" property, so unsatisfied "import electro plants from Fulgora" will be ignored

I dont quite get one specific moment - You are requesting stuff from one planet and haul it to another. It drops onto the planet, but then shouldn't it try to fulfill those requests automatically from the same planet you dropped these things on? Or do you just move from this planet before it have a chance? If so, it looks like a very weak point in a system, hope I am wrong

Ahhrrr! I'm getting so frustrated with space platforms, I have 7k iron ore in the cargo hold, a request for 10k on Nauvis landing pad and NOTHING is moving? There's a request for 100 on the platform because I want to have some for fuel and ammo, I don't want it ALL shipping out. This entire thing seems so arbitrary. like, why does it say "import from" when I'm telling it to send things TO the planet. It's really poor UIX

not enough the ammo to travel to aquilo I added 1500 rockt and ammo for gun turrets an on backway always lost my outer planet frigate...
