You will return to the game, many new updates and islands to choose from. I highly recommend it.

The crop rotation of the farms is not matching well with your food consumption. When viewing the per minute food consumption of the settlement it is shown that only 10.6 potatoes and 7.5 corn are consumed in the carbs section but 21.1 vegetables are consumed in the vitamins section. However the way your current rotation is set up produces ~1:1:1 (3.3 : 3.8 : 3.4 per minute per farm) of all of those outputs. This results in a massive oversupply of potatoes and corn but considerably less oversupply of the vegetables. I saw the same issue in the stream series where the difference was so major that for a long time you had 0 months of vegetables in storage but hundreds of months of potatoes and bread. I suggest trying the cycle of potatoes -> vegetables -> corn -> vegetables. In theory this should produce ~2x as much vegetables as the other products which much better matches the settlement consumption ratios. Corn will likely still be over produced significantly but a sink like fuel or animal feed could be used for the difference.

I don't think Nilaus thinks highly of vegetables. :D - On a serious note though, yes I had to end up doing this but I still made sure I had more of the others anyway as later on you need corns/potatoes for animal feed for chickens/ethanol etc

Bonus marks for acknowledging the sour water strippers; and the very adult way you ignored your copper shortage! I only noticed my shortage when maintenance started dropping 😱 Edit- at 14:40 ish, to stack pipes without them connecting hit R while building, right bottom corner will show a disabled magnet icon to tell you snapping is off

i hope you'll have some sort of food industry video. I'm struggling how can I set up a system which produces 6-8 types of food, sorting and balancing foods for processing and direct consumption, handling settlement demands and over production.

Green manure improves fertility before fertilizer is available. I believe in an irrigated farm it would be better to have a crop+manure rotation than crop+crop+crop with the goal of increasing yield per farm.

Test it... not worth it

@@Nilaus Initial test: 5.1% natural fertility replenishment, 8.3% with green manure on a new irrigated farm and no edicts. Maybe small potatoes...🍟around fifty a year.
@distinctivefox2 жыл бұрын
They either need to buff green manure or nerf natural replenishment as it's not worth it as Nilaus said. I had issues running out of food with green manure inbetween crops, but once I took that out - I saw the problem go away, like in this vid, you can see Nilaus has 99+ month worth of food - so it definitely isn't a problem. Plus, he has now setup fertiliser in this video, so it means he can bring in fertiliser to replenish and increase crop yield now whenever he needs. Nilaus said in his last video, this game is all about avoiding expanding too quickly - this solves food problems later on down the line once he starts tech'ing up and expanding population and the pollution reduction from not dumping sour water means his pop's health will be better overall and avoid diseases.
@0623kaboom2 жыл бұрын
yes it does actually work but people overlook it as the fallow field level is NOT added into the equation so you dont get valid results to compare that against ... also ... solo crop to green manure is best ... once you get all the crops there is a specific rotation that will increase the yields overall ... but yet again none of the crops actually figure out what the take and what they leave behind ... making the complete farm rotation setup garbage ... one can do fallow manure or fertilizer or all three and the only way the fields get better is AFTER you have fertilizer to be able to adjust the soil enhancement above natural ... . and yes once there ... the green manure between crops with a fertilizer rotation on the last one works well ... BUT that means each field is ONLY 2 crops requiring more fields ... approximately 2.25 times more fields

Mixed feelings on this build, all that extra cracking and reprocessing only nets you 6 extra diesel while making rubber, which is meh. Yet while backed up on rubber, which will be alot of the time, you will be getting 30 extra diesel which is pretty decent.

Thanks for the tip about how to force a 4-directional Pipe connector. I don’t like to space out my factory elements more than I absolutely have to. It’s probably just my Factorio mindset that has a hard time adapting to a small island, when I’m used to an infinite and flat map, but it’s still nice to be able to save a couple of tiles of width here and there. Also, have you seen the 0.4.5 patch notes? Now it’s finally possible to copy and paste Pipes/Belts.

Honestly, I'd love to see your builds for more advanced technology. Like Microchips, electronics 3, Gold, plastic and Quartz. Honestly, everything with these technologies is interconnected with eachother and it is a mess.

I don't quite get your ratios, 3 dancers can push up to 36 ammonia to the pipe, that can load max 3 fertilizer plants and needs 1.5 air separators, or do you plan to add more strippers?
@VasiliiAlferov2 жыл бұрын
oh, sorry its unupgraded chemical plant that can only do 6 ammonia per minute
@0623kaboom2 жыл бұрын
he needs to deal with 84 and can handle 98 ... thats why he cut one ratio high ... the other ratio he wants some of the output for other builds later ... so he lets the 10 or 12 unused bits stock up ... . his biggest problem is going to be overburdened truck supply .... he should have upgrade his trucks to the large ones ... so that for every 3 pick up trucks converted to large trucks he essentially triples his trucks ... (20 per pick up to 60 per truck)

@@SomniaStellarum one MAJOR problem of burying pipes ... is if they break or get damaged you HAVE to dig them to fix them ... which ends up costing time resources and many other bits and barbs just to fix something that oen truck could have done in a single trip

@@0623kaboom I certainly don't think it's something people will use in speedruns. I kinda like the realism of having to actually bury your own pipes. It's a fun for me at least. I wouldn't expect everyone to want to do that though.

Hey Nilaus! Super crisp design! Beauty:) but this build seems super advanced. I.e there are other things you could have built first like better oil and diesel so the trucks don’t have to travel that long of a distance. So why go for this first? Why not do all the prep work for it first then do this? Thanks!:)

I have enough Diesel for now, but I was having issues with Health due to pollution. If I build a new diesel build then I have 84 Sour Water/min that I need to deal with immediately. So I solve the waste product problem before it happens

Don't you need two balancers for sulfur the same way as you need for water? Also I expected you to reserve some space for hydrogen production in future in you twitch design it fit perfectly, but here I don't see a good space for it
@HurricaneRainbowOG2 жыл бұрын
@Nilaus, how long does it take you to plan these out? Just a rough estimate, because I suspect it can be up to several hours (3-6+ ). Plus the Twitch contributors, wow. Talk about open source.
@achtsekundenfurz78762 жыл бұрын
In another reply (to Pfandflasche), Nilaus says 4 hours per episode, but that's overall, not just planning the industrial layout. I suspect that N has some professional background where he did some similar planning regularly, so he's faster and produces very clean designs. He's probably full-time youtuber by now, maybe with the exception of some contract work, probably related to YT or videos as well.

looking later on at some of the research it appears as if one could go from basic needs to end game needs with a LONG ... ok HUGE... production line that sends each of it's outputs off to be dealt with in some fashion ... such as recycled (yes the recycling plant is a MUST early you get back some of the basic resources you always need) .... from what I have seen in various streams it appears to be possible to make a pollution free production line that covers every need ... . perhaps yuo can see what you can figure out and see how to optimize it from game start to be ready for end game .... and dont forget to leave a lvl 1 set of basic bits for maintenance and fuel as they dont crash and will keep at least one truck working to get your other things back online if/when Stuff happens ...
