Hats off Tris - that first single is a mouthful! Great review as always - I'm a bit of a Nile fanboy. Black Seeds of Vengeance is up there in my top albums. I'm still digging Vile Nilotic Rites, so really amped to listen to this one.

Hahahaha you're telling me mate! That's why I made the blooper reel haha - same here man. I think that Annihilation is my favourite record of theirs. It just hits SO hard. I think if you like VNR then you'll find a lot to love with this one. I was a fan of this for sure but missed those kind massive stomping riffs that we had on Gods and What Should Not Be Unearthed

I fell off with Nile after Ithyphallic due to boredom. I loved In Their Darkened Shrines, and hearing Sarcophagus blew me a way when I first saw the video in 2002, it was the heaviest thing I heard at the time, and Annihilation of the Wicked is a masterpiece. Having said that, everything after AOTW didn't have that same impact for me. I've enjoyed the singles from The Underworld Awaits, but I'm still not quite sold, as it does not have that weighty production as you mentioned. I'll give it a listen, but I do wonder if I'm trying to recapture the magic that has already gone.

Well I think that one of the key things about this record is that there's a lot of new energy here and there are different ideas that are being discussed you know? Which is one of the positives for me. However like you say, that level of heavy hasn't really been in the band since TWTGD I think, I would really love a reissue of that record haha - but hey we've always got Black Seeds, Annihilation and Shrines to go back to right?!

Boredom??? Wow...I'm sorry to hear you no don't have modern Nile in your collection. I encourage you to give albums like ATGOS, WSNBU, and VNR a chance. Tons of creative, atmospheric brutality.

I'm kind of in the same boat. Unas Slayer of the Gods was the first song of Nile's that I heard, and I was hooked. When Annihilation came out I got it day one, and it's one of the greatest metal albums of all time. There are just so many good riffs, solos, everything. After that, though, they just started chasing the BPM. Every song had to hit that 320bpm. The memorable riffs kind of disappeared, so many songs had no solos. All the albums after AotW only had 3 or 4 songs each that really hooked me. Vile Nilotic Rites is probably their best since AotW. I just wish they'd stop trying to be the fastest ever. So many of their best songs aren't in that range. If a song doesn't have a memorable riff, I don't care how fast it is. It'll sound just like the song before it, where there wasn't a memorable riff and they were just going as fast as possible.

@@tanookigt If those are your thoughts on Nile post-AOTW, then I strongly suggest you go back and at the very minimum re-visit overlooked albums like ATGOS and WSNBU. Both of those contain plenty of material that's not focused on speed, but atmosphere and killer solos. And if not, we're just not hearing this band in the same way LOL.

Cannot wait for this record. My favorite DM band for 20+ years. Karl and George are legends.....and I'm still listening to their last Vile Nilotic Rites alot. \m/

Vile Nilotic Rites was awesome, there were some moments on there that I thought were more in keeping with some of the ideas on Shrines wit those more, for lack of a better word, symphonic elements I guess? Still killer records! I just wish that we would get a reissue of Those Whom The Gods Detest!

@@TheMetalTris My first taste of pre-ordering a new Nile album and seeing them live was on the TWTGD cycle! Great channel, stay metal.

Nile is a serious nominee for my favorite Death Metal band, so I am always stoked for everything they do. This album in particular I am curious about, because it is that odd sophomore release post major line up change. The released songs kind of have me not sure what to feel yet, but I have a feeling that the more diverse tracks have yet to be revealed. Just two more days at time of writing this!

We're definitely in the same DM camp of philosophy. They're so unique and so creative all the while being that ideal combination of brutal, technical and atmospheric. Been hooked ever since hearing Ithyphallic....and been catching them live since the TWTGD days HAILS \m/

In all honesty, I think that some of the songs that have been released are definitely not the strongest ones. Though To Strike With Secret Fang I think is a great little ripper. It's more towards the latter half of the record that I think it really kicks into gear. Naqada II and the title track itself is wicked not to mention True Gods of The Desert as well. Lots of rippers so I Will be intrigued to see what you make of it! Thanks for checking out the video all the same though, it's hugely appreciated!

@@TheMetalTris There are more Karl Sanders interviews being uploaded this week (for promotion ofc)....and he has continued to emphasize that the first half is meant to just suck you in with the speed/brutality, while the latter half is a bit slower,/dimmy more progressive...taking its time.

Great review and interesting to hear your views. I think it’s solid effort without being brilliant. I totally agree it is far more interesting in the second half / final third. I think with Nile that their highs are so high that they are hard to reach again. For me it’s good but doesn’t have reach the level of some earlier works or have the variety of something like Those Whom The Gods Detest.

Oh awesome! Let me know what you think of the new record when it comes out tomorrow. I have to say though, if you like that more old school sound, definitely check out Black Seeds of Vengeance but my absolute favourite has to be Annihilation of the Wicked. That's a top tier banger for me!

The drumming has gotten more complex with each album. That's what I like most about Nile & George. I wonder if George thinks a track off this album has more complex drumming than What Should Not Be Unearthed or Long Shadows Of Dread.

Would be interesting to find out right? I have to say that this record wasn't an immediate win over for me but it's definitely been one that I have gone back to more and more. I did really love What Should Not Be Unearthed though!

A band that used to be able to play great death metal now records shitty albums. Why these clean vocals. They recorded an album to sell as much as possible. Big disappointment

Hey there my friend! I'm not being funny here but the band are pretty damn niche in the first place so I don't think that they have really tried to 'sell out' considering their fan base are going to be hardcore Nile fans and this record is just as brutal as their other stuff haha - I get what you mean though, it's different but doesn't mean that they have sold out!

@@TheMetalTris Today's death metal is recorded to appeal to as many people as possible. It's supposed to be more accessible. I don't like that.
