There are several behaviors that are seen more commonly here in USA, sadly, than in other countries. First, some parents are quite “cold” and strict with their children. Second, young and adult children talk back to their parents as they speak up for their feelings even if it goes against how they were morally raised or taught. Third, I have a cousin that’s an adult and is autistic. When he was younger and before he had the therapy, doctors and treatments, whenever he would not get his way or something didn’t turn out like he wanted, he would get upset and frustrated, raise his voice and my aunt and uncle had to intervene. The autistic person needs “predictability” such as a set routine, things prepared and told way in advance and no variation to it…especially if they are still trying to be regulated/balanced and learning life skills and patterns to live or at least work on their own. I still don’t understand how his parents let Niles travel abroad, even with an unknown TLC camera crew, making these life-changing decisions…but then again, we don’t know his parents and what they have gone through in raising Niles and what level of autism he has. (Just trying to give them the benefit of the doubt). As for me and my own child….if I had a child in this predicament, you better believe I would have been on that plane with him, even if I had to take off from work. Raising a child doesn’t stop after high school graduation or 18 years old. Adult children, including male children, still need our support, wisdom and encouragement. God bless. 🙏🏽🤍
